What I love is that, with the combination of colors, he keeps my hair looking fresh and modern. Oh.....and ask him about the smoother. Every 4 months or so, when my hair starts getting that kinky look to it, he applies a smoother that makes styling a snap. UPDATE: Jesse has left this salon! So my man stepped inside the salon to see to check out waiting times while I stayed in the car. Shortly after, he comes back looking like he'd just experienced the most bizarre thing in his life. "She screamed at me," he said. "Wait what??" I asked bewildered. He went on to tell me that he waited there respectfully since the lady was doing someone's hair. When the lady turned and saw him waiting, she screamed. I did clarify that she didn't just squeal or gasp, but screamed. He said after she screamed, she told him he 'surprised her' and 'didn't see him there'. I asked if she apologized for screaming at him, since he's just a harmless average build Scottish guy with short hair and glasses. He said she never did. A convenient resolution is to add a bell to the front door. Not sure how bad this neighborhood is, but it'd be worth considering if you were genuinely worried for safety, or tend to scream when you have guests walking into the salon. Needless to say, we won't be back.

Anyway, I've seen it done. It doesn't look so hard. So why wouldn't I be able to do it? I'm smart. I'm detail-oriented. I'm a perfectionist. I should be able to give rocking haircuts. No, the haircut didn't turn out as well as I thought. First of all, I had to work with a pair of office scissors and a moving head. I cut the back (that went kind of well). Then I trimmed the right side, then the left side of his head. That's when I noticed the left was shorter, so I had to go back and trim more from the right. And vice versa (I'm sure you all can see where this is going.). Before I got to the point of no return (i.e. the point in which a shaved head was the only other option), I was stopped. After scouring the Internet, we realized that there were no haircut chains nearby. That's when I co-worker suggested Yahow and his wife, Betsy, who had a place about 5 minutes from our office. He called, and we got an appointment with Betsy for later that afternoon. I would have never found this place without assistance: it's a brick building located on a fairly busy street in Kent, across from the "Great Wall" Asian marketplace, and next to a shooting gallery. It really does look just like a house from the street, with large green trees covering it from the main street and a nice sized yard, perfect for a dog. Betsy is amazing. Not only did she fix my botched hair job, but she did a great job with styling (we're talking about a guy who has probably never heard of the word "style" in relation to physical appearance). We've gone back since, for haircuts for the both of us - always with great results. I've always been very satisfied leaving here. I've also purchased some great hair care products (shampoo, mostly) when I've left. The price of a wash and cut is very reasonable for a hair salon: The two of us run about $60 (tip included). The couple that runs the place is a pair of sweet Issaquah locals. They have a very loyal client base (which is why I suspect that there isn't much of a marketing effort), and they remember all their clients by name. I called today to schedule a hair appointment (we got every 3-4 months), and ended up on the phone for 10 minutes, catching up. It's kind of like Cheers (where everybody knows your name) - only for hair.

It is frustrating, I went to have it cut somewhere else right after, it still looks pretty terrible, and it will take a long time for it to grow out, as it is chopped up from top to bottom from Frida's, and I like it straight. In the picture I brought I wanted a deep purple/burgundy, and it is now red. I am not a fussy person, but I was very disappointed and am not clear how they can stay in business if they are on their own agenda, and disregard the requests of clients in an up-scale salon.
