I haven't had much luck with make-up consultations in Atlanta, so my mother decided to rush me into Merle Norman late on Saturday. I should have known that a white Southern woman would know what looks best on a fellow white Southern woman. "HELP HER," my mother begged store owner Margaret when we waltzed through the door. Margaret did my make-up every year when I performed in dance recitals and other events as a little girl; she did such a good job that the gay man I had a crush on even commented on my smoky eyes. She still exhibits a magic combination of classic color knowledge, an eye for new products and techniques that build on said classic foundation, and an ability to teach others how to apply all this stuff at home. Not to mention her daughter Liza, a powerful second talent for the store. I might start buying all my eye make-up from Merle Norman when I come home to visit my parents. Calhoun has got it good when it comes to cosmetics.

Horrible scar on my face (long across my eyes) that was not there (very deep and long). Also had a…read morecyst removed on arm. Still after 8 months a large scar and ugly. Very bad a leaving scars that you are left with for life. I wasn't told my insurance didn't pay until after I had the surgery and still making payments. Hurt that I wasn't told before. They have been kind and let me make payments but had it to do over again, I would not have went because the scars are horrible and cannot be fixed without lots of money and still permanent. Bad Experience after I thought such a nice place to go.

Super cute gift shop with lots of eclectic home decor, clothing, jewelry and cosmetics and much…read moremore. I came upon this boutique by chance and stopped in on a whim after the shop was recommended to me by another store owner downtown. Actually, I'd passed by this charming little boutique several times and hadn't noticed that it's a boutique because it's actually located inside a converted old home in a combination residential/business area on a shady, tree-lined side street. Once I walked inside, I found so many cute things that I didn't know what to look at first, but I immediately spied a bunch of cute Paula Deen kitchenware/decor I tucked into one corner and I immediately made a beeline towards it. Elsewhere, my husband I found a big clearance/sale section located in another room and tons of eclectic decor items, including candles, pillows, pottery, glassware, some vintage pieces, plus racks of clothing and accessories and so much more. Every room of this old home was chock full of unique wares (don't think about not hitting the second floor-there's even more in store upstairs). Don't forget to stop in the bathroom, too, because most of the fragrances, lotions, cosmetics, and candles are in there! It smelled so good, it almost felt like a spa. Truthfully, I could have spent a fortune in here, though I managed to curb my inner shopaholic and pare down my purchases to a few items, including some Paula Deen pottery and a carved wood decorative knock knack. While some things were typical Chinese imported goods, I actually found plenty of Made in USA merchandise, including handmade box candles, pottery and accessories, which I was pleased to see. There was an Easter Egg scavenger hunt sale going on here (several downtown retailers participated- it was the week of Easter), so I grabbed a plastic Easter egg out of a bag to find out my store discount, which was 30% off my total purchase, so that was great. I signed up for their email list, too, so now I get notifications on special promotional events and sales. Customer service here was excellent, too. Overall, a great shopping experience.
