Every once in a while I find a new merchant that far surpasses any other. Today I found Salles' Jewelers. I really didn't find them they were recommended by everyone I asked who lives in or near Slidell, Louisiana. The staff was pleasant and helpful. The owner himself came out, looked at my ring and said he could repair the ring while I waited. I'm sure my look said "While I wait?". The ring in question was gold with delicate filigree. It had been run over by a car and smashed almost flat. Less than 10 minutes later he handed me my ring, now perfectly round and shining because he went the extra step and polished it. My 40 year old ring now looks brand new. My deep gratitude to Salles' Jewelry for saving a treasured ring that I thought could never be saved. And the price was definitely more than fair. Both calls the man who answered was borderline rude. Now after 3 weeks, I called, fellow answering phone knew nothing, told me to call back next day. I never leave bad reviews and I hate to do this but I absolutely have to. My family and friends have been going to Salles for many years and they've always done a beautiful job so when I was visiting I brought my wedding set there to have the prongs fixed as they'd started catching on fabrics. No stones were loose, but the rings are 15 years old and have the normal wear & tear. When I got the rings back the prongs felt very smooth but I trusted they did a good job and put them away because of work. After we headed back home I put them on and the stones were EXTREMELY loose. The prongs were almost nonexistent. I called Salles to politely notify them that there was a problem - didn't ask for anything, just to let them know. He tried to turn the blame back on me. I had to take it to another jeweler and $600 later it was fixed. The jeweler told me had he done what Salles did he'd been fired - by his brother, the owner. One of the stones was chipped, the prongs were filed off, and almost every single stone was loose. They had to completely rebuild my rings. Now I understand that some of that was most likely due to the age of the rings but I had just had them to Salles 2 weeks prior and they said nothing about it and apparently did nothing about it. read more

The jeweler came from the back and I began to apprehensively explain the issues with the ring... Having talked to another jeweler separate from the one who did the shoddy work, I was worried this meet would end in more bad news. Quite the opposite. I do not know the jewelers name - but I can only describe what transpired as a godsend. He knew exactly what was wrong, what had been done wrong, and even mentioned additional things that needed to be fixed that I had not yet voiced. Best place to get your watch fixed. I brought in my watch to get my battery replaced because my mother recommended them. I gave them my watch and they put in the battery in less 5 minutes and I only paid $5 even. I was shocked how fast it was. It was faster than Chuck Norris chucking wood. I love Salles. My entire family gets their jewelry from this little shop. The store is tiny and they don't hold much stock, so it's not like going into the mall where you just walk in, point to one, pay too much for it, and then leave with the jewelry in hand. At salles', they will customize everything! When we picked out our wedding rings, we looked through magazines and picked different traits from different rings and they put them all together to make the perfect one for us. And because the store is so small, they don't carry much stock, and it's mostly just the family working there, they keep the cost way down. You will not find better prices on the North shore. When we were looking at engagement rings, I pointed to a ring in a magazine and asked how much it would be he said, "Half the list price."
