She was great when I first emailed her and she responded quickly. I had some general questions before we went on our trip and she was always very helpful and answered them quickly through email. When driving to the apartment we were a little leery of the area near this neighborhood, but when we arrived we found that it was a nice gated community in San Juan. I am not a fan of San Juan at all, it tends to be a little to scary for me. However I felt completely fine staying in this apartment, actually I loved it! She met us at the key box and showed us around and let us know all the good places to eat and go in the area. She was very helpful! About the apartment, the patio was amazing and I found fresh limes every day, the bed was a normal bed that we slept fine on. My son slept on the pull out futon and was fine each night. IT was very clean, we never even saw bugs or anything. The kitchen had everything we needed for cooking, also dishes and silverware. There was a fridge and a microwave and also a coffee pot. During our 5 night stay, Carina texted us to say good morning a few times and gave us info on the weather and how the beach was looking. She also helped me a lot through texting whenever I was lost or had a question, this is very much above her responsibility but she was so welcoming I felt like I could talk to her easily throughout our stay and she was always there to answer my texts. She even called a few pizza places when I asked her who delivered, to find out, that was so nice! This apartment is right down the road from the beach and also the busiest road for restaurants, everything was in walking distance, although I was a little freaked at night, we were always safe. Theres also a 24 hour supermarket right down the road, so that was nice. I highly recommend this property if you are staying in San Juan!!

They were always there to give us toilet paper when we ran out and answer our questions. We didn't get to see them much since we were out and about, but the few times we did they were delightful. -There was a delicious restaurant (Kasalta) and beach (Ocean Park Beach) within walking distance. -Though the area wasn't the best, the gates all locked and only the guest had a key to unlock the gates and enter the premesis. -The rooms and beds were comfortable and the air conditioning worked very well. -The hot tub was delightful, warm, and a great place to relax. The not so good: -The area was a little sketchy. People hanging out on street corners and playing loud music all night. -The air coniditioning was a bit TOO cold, even when we had the knob switched to "off". But I'm sure if you just ask them to help with making this more comfortable, they will. -There was limited parking and one time, we had to park a block down on the sketchy, dark street. The other nights though, we got there just in time to see another guest pulling out so we could take their spots. Overall, we liked this guest house a lot. The area does seem a little scary, but right down the street a few miles is San Cristobal and Old San Juan. It is also very close to its own little beach. If you stay here you must eat at Kasalta and get one of the delicious sandwiches and a sweet treat too!

Let's start with "The Hill" - the house is on the top of this "hill" that will literally 'take your breath away'! It's a short walk down the hill to Tamboo, the local "water hole". Just count your $2.50 rum punches because the walk back up the hill is a killer leg workout! "Don't attempt the hill of you are too intoxicated it's interesting to say the least!" "The House:" - The house is safely gated & has a side entrance that is only accessible with a key. There is enough drive way space for 3 cars to park & they also have a spot next to the Villita (smaller apartment) above the garage.. which by the way is the cutest thing ever! The designer of the bathroom in the Villita was a genius. It's so beautiful! Ok back to "The House" The rooms are spacious. King size bed in the Master bedroom & 2 queen size beds in the 2nd room. Plenty of closet space & a dresser to store clothes. (Washer & dryer available also) The living room area has a comfy couch (pull out bed) and comfy seats the "hug you" when you are relaxing watching Direct TV or reading a book. The Master Bathroom has a double sink & the main bathroom is beautiful. Seriously who designed these bathrooms?? Amazing!! The Kitchen: I love to cook & they provide just the right amount of pots, pans, strainers, blenders, plates, utensils & serving dishes to make a homemade meal. The Pool-backyard: Private pool with a beautiful view. You can see the ocean while you are pool side & you can even hear the waves crashing on the beach. There is beautiful wildlife surrounding the Villa El Encanto. This last trip were were visited by an iguana. Tons of little lizards helping the eco system of bugs to stay away! In the morning the birds sing to you. There is an out door bathroom next to the Grill area. (Pool supplies are stored there also) outside shower to wash off the sand before you jump in the pool. The owners have placed their special touch on the outside grill/sink area. (Outside fridge to store those beers too!) You can see the sunset/sunrise on the upstairs balcony area, very romantic- if you are into that kinda thing! The cute town of Rincón was booming. So many new shops have opened up since our last trip 4 years ago. Rincón Beer Company has some pretty fantastic beers. There was an "Art walk" on Thursday night & you can buy all sorts of cool souvenirs there. Do yourself a favor - book your stay NOW! You won't regret it!

Although he'd reserved a studio, when we arrived, we found we had been upgraded to a one-bedroom unit, as the studio's door was being repaired. Late check in was very easy. The property's deck is large and has a gorgeous view of the beach directly below. You really cannot beat the location of Villa Tropical on Shacks. We enjoyed drinking our coffee on the deck whilst watching the sun rise in the mornings before grabbing our gear and walking down the short flight of steps to the sand. The gift shop within the office is a major time saver, too, when you need a drink or snack but don't want to drive. The Econo supermarket is only about an 8-minute drive away, though, when you do want to do a grocery run. It was awesome having a fully stocked kitchen and being able to cook and eat in most meals. We loved grilling on the deck at sunset! The Ola Lola restaurant is a cute spot a short walk away for food or drinks when one would rather skip cooking, too, and in each room, there is a very thorough guide compiled by the management with information on where to find all kinds of things in the area, from film development to entertainment. It was extremely convenient to be able to do laundry on the premises also. The staff are super helpful and maintain VT very well. Our unit (1B) was clean and comfortable, and by the end of our stay, we had fallen into a nice, homey routine. I was sad to leave and understand why Shacks is a place so many return to every year. The beach is clean, the big waves break far from the shore, there are interesting reefs for snorkeling, many days have adequate wind for kitesurfing, and there is a friendly surfer community among those who stay in the area both longer term and seasonally.

Part of its charm for us was that there were so few people there on the weekdays we visited and we felt that we had our own resort Pros: -AMAZING STAFF- each and every employee we encountered at copamarina was friendly and seemed genuinely interested in making sure we were having an excellent experience- it was honestly impressive. We were wowed. - beautiful pools and hot tubs that are truly taken care of and properly maintained- there is no gross cloudy water which we experienced at many other places - in addition to the pools the entire landscape was manicured and well cared for- more so then any other place we visited. They truly reinvest in their property -wonderful food- every meal we ate here was fantastic!! Their tuna tartar was my favorite! -clean rooms and ours emptied right onto the ground floor lawn from the back so we could be in the pool in minutes- other rooms were in buildings and we truly felt we had the best spot -kayaks available and bikes for short bike trips around the property - they are working on adding an even more beautiful welcome area and lounge. They are also working on building another building that is completely detached from everything else and nowhere near rooms. I see some people complaining about the "construction" but it absolutely did not affect our stay and there was zero construction noise. It seems crazy that someone would give them 1 star for doing a great job at improving this beautiful property while not affecting the guest experience in the least. CONS: - NO SWIMMING IN OCEAN- We didn't realize you could not swim in the ocean. The water is 2 inches deep for hundreds of feet out and if you wanted to swim you'd have to go out to the dock but we don't recommend it because we saw hundreds of jelly fish. We enjoyed the pools so much that this wasn't a huge deal for us but we were disappointed for sure -Ridiculously expensive spa. I had the most expensive massage I've ever had even though it started late and was ended early. Gratuity is built in...but then they still ask you to tip on the screen so beware -you have no other option but to eat here unless you want to drive far out- it's kind of in the middle of nowhere. Meals are very expensive. Expect to pay $140 for dinner for two and know that the more casual restaurant is closed when the "fancy" restaurant is open which limits options further -they make you pay for kayak rentals which felt yuck since they are already charging a resort fee and you can't even swim in the water so most people rent the kayaks for something to do. $35 an hour? Felt crazy. Also do not attempt to kayak to Gilligans island if it's even a tiny bit windy. The kid working the kayaks told us it was fine and we felt we were lucky to come back alive as we were tossed around in the waves.

It is exactly like you see in the pictures; super clean and the beds are very comfortable. We arrived late at night and contacted Martin. He was extremely helpful. Access to the apartment was easy and he met with us the next morning and explained everything to us and gave us some very helpful hints. I had forgotten to bring my hairdryer and there wasn't one in the unit, but Martin came back later in the day with a brand new one. He truly is a treasure!!! From the apartment you can walk to Escambron Beach (pretty much right across the street). It was quiet and beautiful, a hidden gem. We took the bus (which stops right at the corner of the street) into Old San Juan; it takes about 5 minutes. We only rented a car to explore other places on the Island (DO NOT miss the rain forest!!!). There is a grocery store right around the corner, a KFC, and a few restaurants, but we mainly ate in Old San Juan (love the Puerto Rican cuisine). My son did have a hamburger at El Hamburger on the corner, and said it was really good. It must be, since the place is packed with locals every day. I would have given this place five stars, except for two things. One was the traffic noise. It is pretty much constant until late at night. I live in the country, so I'm used to quiet nights; I'm sure it won't bother anybody used to city life. The other is the rooftop terrace. It was nice and one side it had a view of the ocean, but you also see quite a few power lines and a fairly new high-rise apartment building, so it wasn't as pretty as I had hoped it to be. Other than that, we really enjoyed our stay. The apartment and it's location sure made up for both of these issues. We fell in love with the island and can't wait to return. The booking was very easy, the owner was extremely helpful and so was Martin, the caretaker. I would recommend this apartment.
