Every state and even municipalities within states has different laws on alcohol sales. So I am not sure of the details, and apparently there was a change not long ago, but this gas station has an extensive selection of alcohol available. If you're looking for something and need to fill up your tank too, highly recommended.
My wife and I were in town, en route from DTW airport to the western side of the state, and I'd grown up in the area and attended University of Michigan. This specific area has developed quite a bit. Our flight was late, we just wanted to get a pizza for dinner, and we stopped at the nearby Cottage Inn. My wife asked the guys working the counter where we could get beer and wine. We had a colleague named "Boswell" who told us his travel trick was to pick up something to drink from a liquor store nearby, to keep in his hotel room. So we have denominalized his name, turning a noun into a verb, as in, "Let's do a Boswell." I was skeptical of the recommendation to stop in the nearby Shell station. That teaches me. This is among the better if not the best place for beer and wine attached to a service station. read more
