I'm shocked at this companies response to COVID 19. They locked their doors with no communication until yesterday. I could still understand that with all the government changes and restrictions but cant believe they demanded March and April full tuition from families impacted by the shutdowns. This is a NON-PROFIT with SEVERAL MILLION annually in sales. They have requested all parents that are lower income ask for government tuition to pay them so parents can keep their spot during COVID 19. This is a multi million dollar non-profit that is asking for limited government funds so they can continue to make money? The money should be allocated to smaller private business that are at risk! If I could give zero stars, I would. This is a daycare center that does not seem to even like children. They treat them like cattle to be herded from one room to the next with as minimal effort or movement from the staff as possible. My grandchild was in the pre-school for two 1/2 years and was constantly berated, bullied and terrified....not by the other children, but by the staff. The staff has no concept of child development and have very little training. They should be there to guide, teach and promote healthy self esteem, but instead they belittle and cause emotional damage to vulnerable minds at a crucial point in development. This causes lasting damage. They should be investigated and shut down. I am sure there are other parents out there who are afraid to speak out for fear of repercussions. Instead of speaking up, they just pull their kids out....this has to stop. read more

We've used Salem Child Development for years. Our older children were enrolled in their before/after school programs at their respective schools and our youngest has been in their care since he was 6 months old and is now transistioning into kinder. We always felt like the staff cared and have had a great experience! read more

Pros: Parent handbook is clear to understand; Easy to contact teachers and administrators; Well trained staff. Carrie, Kellie, Amanda, Michelle, Katie, Janet, Diana are all teacher we really like; One of our kids began sign language before age 15 months; They work with kids at their pace and nudge advancement gently; Lots of outside playing; Good balance between play time and learning; They use tried and true methods for discipline; The place is clean; I've always felt my children were safe from the time I dropped them off till pick up; Field trips and swimming for the preschoolers and Kindergarteners: Preschool and Kindergarten is well worth the tuition; Open for daycare most weeks days of the year; Sibling discount; safe; up to date; privacy is respected; There is more, but I can't remember it all. Cons: Sometimes other parents are inconsiderate, but you get that everywhere and it's not in SCDC's control. SCDC is tolerant to an extent. They do not tolerate BS. read more

We had a horrible preschool experience here for our son. The "teachers" ostracized him and filled his head with negativity that continues to stick with him to this day. For example, he was told that "he makes more bad choices than good", his classmates were rewarded with Tic Tacs when they ignored him, and the building supervisor would "trap him" in the main office. There is a frequent turnover of staff, resulting in a lack of the knowledge and training needed to work with small children. A child never deserves to be treated the way my son was treated. I would never recommend SCDC to anyone. read more

My daughters privates were violated by another child. No one notified us of this until we picked her up in the evening. The employee defended her lack of communication by telling my husband she followed protocol. The boys parents were notified, but not us. My kids will never go back here. read more
