This independent Italian restaurant opened in March 2010 and is bravely taking on the big chains in and around St David's Centre - an area which is also home to the likes of Carluccio's and Jamie Oliver's famous Italian restaurant.
Sale Pepe is a smart-looking restaurant run by Welsh chef Simon Kealy, who spent several months living and working in Italy, and who now wants to use the finest fresh ingredients to put a modern, fresh spin on traditional Italian dishes. And he seems to have pulled it off, so far. The food's reasonably priced considering the quality, with fish dishes from about £8.50-£12.50, risottos in small portions (£5.50 upwards) or large portions (£7 upwards), and roast of the day for £9.95, with each roast different each day, proving to be very popular with customers. On Wednesdays they do a really mouthwatering free range chicken with lemon and thyme, for example. Their dessert menu is also interesting - try the divine iced amaretto cream with crushed biscuits.
Sale Pepe is flying the flag for independent restaurants still thriving alongside the big chains, and I'll definitely be going back to support them. read more
