I want to start by saying that the level of care by the physicians is top notch. They listen, they…read morecare, they take into consideration who you are as a person. Now that that is out of the way...as personable, friendly, and easy to communicate with as the physicians are, the front end and telephone support staff are unhelpful, unimaginative, uncaring, and very much like to only stay in their box and stick to their script. The silence after asking if a doctor has seen something important that shouldn't be left to just an email into the ether is deafening. The way they don't even try to offer any solutions to issue, or any type of resolution is are bare minimum as it can get. I saw Dr. Jyoti Sharma about a hand problem that she diagnosed as arthritis. She said there was…read morenothing she could do for me. A few days later, I requested a referral to a rheumatologist. I can get a referral from my family doctor, but since Dr. Sharma had the x-rays, and she and the rheumatologist are both part of the UPMC system, it seemed more appropriate to get the referral from her office. A few days later, I received a call from her office telling me that my insurance - they didn't say which one - had refused to approve the referral. None of my doctors have authorization to contact my insurance carriers for any purpose other than the payment of their own bills, and my insurance carriers do not require pre-approval for referrals. And even if they did, I am perfectly capable of paying a bill on my own if it comes to that. I'm not sure what's going on, but it seems pretty clear to me that either this office has no idea what they are doing, or they simply made up a story in order to avoid doing whatever minor bit of work is involved in making a referral. I will not be returning to this practice, and would not recommend them.
