4 for the food, one missing star for some of the servers... theres one waitress who always just looks absolutely miserable. I understand we all have bad days, especially working with the public. But it's an every time issue. You feel like you've offended her whole family simply by asking for an item. The sushi is always my go to. So if you're a sushi fan. I recommend. My husband and I went here recently for the first time when we were out of town. I'm guessing it's a favorite for many of the local community members because the restaurant got very full while we were there. We both enjoyed our main entrées and would give them a four. My husband got the Udon Noodle with triple meat and he liked it very much. I got the Teriyaki Scallops and Shrimp with white rice . They actually did a very good job with their white rice, it wasn't sticky as I've had before at other restaurants and I enjoyed the Hibachi Teriyaki flavoring that went along with my main entrée. I did like the scallops, they were fairly good, but I did not enjoy the shrimp . I believe the shrimp was overcooked, and it tasted chewy, but outside of that, I enjoyed my meal. I did like my Egg Drop Soup and ate all of that and my husband thought his Miso Soup was OK, it was a new flavor for him. I did get a nonalcoholic Pina Colada Smoothie, which I did not get a picture of, and I would give it a strong 4 1/2, maybe a five 5. It was really good and I would order it again. I had a pickup order this evening at 6:32 pm scheduled by their online ordering system. It cost $32 before tax and tip. I checked in at the window at 6:30 and pulled to spot 1. They brought out my food at 6:47. All of the food - hibachi shrimp, spring rolls, and deep fried sushi was cold after driving home for 8 minutes. The worst? My family of 5 puked. Absolutely disgusting.. I ordered the shrimp hibachi.. mushy rice and everything was cold.. hus band ordered "fillet" that was so tough it was absolutely inedible.. I wouldn't feed this crap to my dog.. 93 dollars for food that was the nastiest junk we've ever tried to consume. Staff was rude and didn't even care the food was shitty. Husband actually had to buy a new pair of pants on the way home from the severe diarrhea. 10/10 wouldn't recommend even if you were starving and they were giving it away. read more

We love eating at Sakura. Their teriyaki chicken bento is my go-to, and my husband loves the Mickey Roll. We have not had a bad meal yet!

Great food. Shrimp yaki soba was delicious. Quickly seated, order taken quickly and food came out in a reasonable amount of time. Order was correct and our table really enjoyed our meal. Why not five stars? It took us 25 minutes to get our check as our waitress never came back after the food runner brought our food. Glad the glasses were full and order was right. Normally my favorite restaurant and food is always good including today but I am upset with today's service. I ordered a chicken hibachi bento box and realized that it comes with a 4 piece california roll included. I asked the waitress if I could substitute for a roll without shellfish since I am allergic. She said she would ask and come back. She never came back, instead she brought me out my bento box and a whole non shellfish roll. When I got my check, I was charged for the $12 box AND a whole roll. I feel discriminated because I have an allergy. Charging people extra just because they can't eat a certain food sounds extremely unethical to me. I'll be back, but not for a while.​ read more

After placing an order we got home and we realized they had left out some food. We had a receipt and called back very nicely to let them know we were missing food. They wanted to then proceed to call back several times and act like we were just trying to receive free food and told us we were lying. We spent so much money to be harassed over not receiving food we ordered! Won't be back. Terrible customer service and food wasn't even that great. Do not know why we haven't tried this place in the seven years we have lived here - but I am glad we finally did! Just as good as any similar restaurant in Birmingham. Service was good. Menu options are good and it's a nice atmosphere. We will be back!!! read more

The chef shows great potential; the egg roll could have been amazing and was fried to perfection. The hibachi steak and veggies were pretty good; the chicken was a little sweet. The sushi was decent, tho the imitation crab stuff was blah. The fried rice was bland; literally rice with onions and soy sauce. The salad came undressed, and the yum yum was not what most would expect, and the ginger dressing tasted oily and was a goldenrod color. We have only lived here in Jasper since January and it took until last weekend for us to finally try Sakura--and it's literally right across the street! Granted, we did not dine-in, but my son got a different array of sushis to go. He was craving sushi and was tickled to death there was a Japanese restaurant so close. Y'all, I've had sushi in some of the best places in Birmingham, and I personally think Sakura's was the best I've ever had. It was so fresh and light, not heavily riced or held together with some kind of weird mayonaissey stuff that some places do. it was awesome. I had a California Roll (playing it safe, lol) and he had the spicy tuna, another CA roll and about 3 other types. NONE were bad. Very large quantites for the money, especially and he couldn't even finish. We were both happy with the quality and the quantity. I will write another review when we go to actually eat inside the place. My son said it was very nice and clean inside, so that was a bonus. I only gave four stars since we've not dined inside yet, plus I want to try the other dishes, not just the sushi. So far, though, they are off to a great start in our book. read more

UPDATE I PROBABY SHOULD HAVE REPORTED THIS TO PUBLIC HEALTH A LONG TIME AGO.. BUT I DIDN'T.. AND I THINK SAKURA IS STILL HERE...SO READ THIS REVIEW AS IT MAY SAVE YOUR LIFE. I was pretty desperate for some sushi one night and too lazy to make my own (which is way better) so I got the pink lady roll. The soy paper on the outside was rancid. How do I know it was rancid? Well people, I will eat anything under the sun, and though I hadn't had soy paper in a while, I remember the last time I had it it was quite enjoyable and didn't make me feel like barfing. Well one bite of this and I knew something was wrong. I swallowed it (don't know why) and gagged and had to ask to return it. They were nice enough to do it for me so I just switched it out for a spicy tuna roll, which is also what my husband got. Food poisoning struck a few hours later and I spent a good portion of the night by the toilette. I'm sure that rancid soy paper made me sick and not the fish since my husband was fine. But all that to say...please just don't go here. read more

I had the chicken & beef tip hibachi dinner & I was pleasantly suprised. The food was fresh,hot & a big portion size, I had plenty to take home for lunch the next day. Our server was very friendly and stayed on top of things. I ordered the fried cheesecake for dessert which I recommend The bathrooms were clean, overall I had a great experience! The only thing I would change would be the house salad it's just lettuce and small slivers of carrots. read more

I absolutely agree with the last reviewer, but more so. The Chinese owners obviously have no respect or understanding of japanese food. Hopefully this pathetic attempt will fail soon. Unfortunately, in their arrogance, the owners will, no doubt, chalk it up to american ignorance, but the fact is that they have NO IDEA what japanese cuisine is all about. If the had even one japanese person acting as a chef or consultant they might have had a chance, But this is, sadly not the case. Of course the wait staff has no idea how to serve food in a timely manner. The manager decided to disagree with me when i informed her that the alleged temura was not tempura. Apparently she thinks that any fried crap is tempura. Fail! The tune roll had sat around long enough for the ends to oxidize to an unappealling purplish gray, and it was room temperature. I stopped eating it for fear of becoming sick. The place feel unclean. I heartily recommend that no one enter this cesspool. I would also recommend that the owners give up the restaurant business and, oh i don't knoe, open up a bowling alley. Pathetic and dangerous. read more

Overall an 8 out of 10. Good service with a very pleasant staff. Clean place with good food. First time we went there ordered a filet and a chicken dinner. The meat was great, the soup just ok, the salad dressing way better than normal but the big disappointment was the rice. Lightly fried and a drop of soy. We went back again and looking closer at the menu saw they had fried rice with egg and veggies for a $2 up charge. We ordered that and found the dish quite enjoyable. They should make that the standard, glad I went back. We see a lot of people eating sushi and have seen no complaints so that struck me as above average. read more

I'm leaving 2 stars because it wasn't overly priced. It was not very good, but it's better than eating fast food. (pending it doesn't make me sick) California rolls is what I ordered. They were not cold, but cool which to me makes a huge difference in the taste. The imitation crab that is used was VERY fishy. I'm honestly afraid I will be burping this up the remainder of the day. The inside of the restaurant was sorta odd. Imagine a Wendy's turned into a Japanese restaurant overnight. That's exactly what this is as this was a Wendy's for years. I used to eat frosty's and fries in this building. My suggestion to management. Do some remodeling so the exterior as well as the interior looks and feels like a Japanese restaurant. Keep your ingredients for your rolls on ice. They need to be cold when served. Use real crab! This will go along way in the taste of your rolls. No one wants to eat fake food. read more
