Bougie unauthentic Japanese cuisine that uses a lot of sauces on their dishes which masks and overpowers the food. Definitely not used to their style of over application of dressing on stuff that's supposed to be left alone for natural flavors. Other than that, the fish is fairly fresh when asked to be prepared with no toppings or sauces. Another thing we weren't familiar with was that the base of literally every roll contained cream cheese... :|
The interior design of the restaurant was simple and clean. High 30ft. ceilings with modern furnishing that gave off an elegant and modest look. The dining area is very spacious with a sushi bar area seating ~10, 4 tables doing teppanyaki (a square table seating 6 that surrounds a grill where a chef entertains and grills food in front of you) and the other tables doing regular a la carte dining.
My family ordered a few things:
- Raw Mixed Sashimi: (tuna, salmon, sea bass): fresh and delicious without the unnecessary sauces.
- Niku Soba: Woww, def wasn't expecting this when we ordered it! Noodles were nice and thick, beef was tender, but the whole dish tasted like spaghetti??
- Teriyaki Chicken: came in a very generous amount. Underneath the chicken was some mash potato (never seen that before) but it was pretty good.
- Salmon Maki: thick ass maki's with very small salmon pieces and buttloads of rice.
- Spicy Tuna Roll: not bad. Pink spicy tuna on top with cream cheese and cucumber base.
- Tempura Roll: loved the crunchiness of the tempura surrounding the roll. Cream cheese on the inside yet again.
- Miso Soup: tasty! Has some mushrooms, tofu, and seaweed. Strong ginger taste.
- Local Sea Bass Sashimi: the chef recommended this. Came with some green sauce topping and another red spicy dip. The sashimi was fresh but the green sauce was unnecessary
- Tempura Ice-cream: alright. Strawberry syrup was very sour
Overall, everything was alright. A majority of the rolls were pre-made with a cream cheese and cucumber and then they'll add additional toppings depending on what you order and when you place your order. Came twice during our stay in Marquis and the second time was better since we requested to sit at the bar rather than table. Service was pretty slow when we sat at the table and our waiter was very forgetful with our orders. Bar seating was better cause we can easily get the chef's attention. Jose and David served us and they were attentive and friendly. Was initially going to try their teppanyaki but swayed away from that idea, thank god! The chef doing the grill for this one table was a mess! Dropping utensils and spatulas while attempting to entertain and even knocking over glasses and spilling drinks over patrons. Could tell the chef was pretty apologetic and embarrassed about this but management should really think about retraining cause the wide eyed looks on the patrons was just horrific.
* Go for the local Sashimi
* Teppanyaki dining is limited and requires calling in for reservation on the day of in the morning.
