I came here last night for my birthday dinner with my family. On a Monday night, the restaurant is a little quiet, though not deserted. I'd never been before, but my parents had enjoyed it the last time they came with some friends, so this is my first experience there.
I'm always a little wary of restaurants that serve Japanese cuisine but is actually owned and operated by Koreans. As someone who loves Japan and Japanese food, I find it detracts from my feelings of authenticity in regards to what I'm eating. But it's not an absolute dealbreaker, just something that lingers in the back of my mind while I eat. While the menu has Japanese translations and dishes, there certainly are a lot of Korean ones too. But anyway, I let these things go, because I like both cuisines and as long as the food is delicious I'm happy!
Because we have a hankering for meat, we each get the standard buffet deal, which is $38.80 per adult (Monday-Thursday only, $43.80 Fri-Sun), and lets us order as much as we like for an hour, while we can sit at our table for 90 minutes. There is a deluxe buffet deal also available, which lets you order all you can eat sashimi in addition but we chose not to get this.
90 minutes is not a problem for us, we can eat quickly if we need to! To start, we ordered about 4 servings of beef (I'm sorry, we ordered so much of it I can't really remember which cuts exactly!), a serving of prawns, chicken thigh, fried chicken, kimchi, japchae noodles... Wow, it really turned into Korean BBQ there. The waitstaff aren't even fazed by our big order and it comes quickly.
The portions we receive are small, but this is not a bad thing! For starters, because the portions are small, we really get to try almost everything on the menu without getting sick of anything. Sometimes I go to Korean BBQ and get really really sick of Samgyeopsal (Pork belly) or Bulgogi (Thinly sliced beef) because we get such large plates of it.
Another reason, is that small portions means that everything gets cooked really quickly, and we can order more! In this way, despite the 60 minute time limit, if you order strategically you can get you a lot of bang for your buck! ;)
We order lots more over the night, but I unfortunately, I can't say that the meat was the standout of the night. Some of the beef was a little tough and overly chewy.
My favourite dish of the night was the Seafood Jijime (Pancake) side dish which was lovely and soft and fluffy... Even if it did take a little while to come out. Towards the end of the night, the service got a bit slower - I'm not 100% sure why, given that our orders got smaller as we ate, and the restaurant was not busy at all.
I have no real complaints, because all throughout the night the waitstaff were nice and friendly, we ate a lot and went home quite satisfied with full bellies. In the end that's all that matters, right? read more
