I offered to take him to whichever vet was preferred and ended up at Newville Animal Hospital. Service was quick and friendly. I liked Lexi, the vet tech, who listened carefully while I explained my concerns. The tech trainees were also friendly, attentive, and careful when handling Mr. Hunter. Dr. Hasco was great -- very friendly, gentle, and I appreciated how he listened, carefully, to understand our concerns and Mr. Hunter's symptoms. In the end, treatment was minimal and seemingly effective and he's back with mom and doing fine but the visit offered some assurance and peace of mind while I had custody of Mr. Hunter. Finally, this is a veterinarian without pretense -- unlike, perhaps, some more fancy offices closer to Camp Hill (Im thinking of Good Hope in particular). There's no free coffee or fireplace but there are small bottles of refrigerated water; instead, the office is comfortable, clean, and efficiently run. I do wish there was a way to divide for noisy animals versus quiet ones but otherwise no complaints.

The facilities are clean and their love for the animals is evident. No greater complement is when your dog starts wagging their tail when they realize where they are going.....that's how much Newfoundland loves coming here. I've helped transport with Mastiffs to Mutts Rescue for about a year and a half now, and I'm…read morecontinually impressed by the number of dogs that find happy homes through the rescue. Where most rescues charge very high adoption fees for giant breed dogs, the $20 application fee allows them to charge lower rehoming fees while still providing the dogs with the medical care they need. They take in a number of cases that I'd personally consider to be "lost causes" and the really great foster families help see them through sometimes multiple surgeries to get the dog back to healthy condition. Their rules can seem strict, however, the dogs that make their way into rescue have already been through so much. The rescue's goal is to do their very best to set up the dog for success. Just because a home may be a great home, it doesn't mean that it's a great home for that particular dog. Not every dog will fit into every home and vice versa. That can be hard to hear, but even as a volunteer, they wouldn't let me adopt if I wasn't a great fit for a particular dog I wanted.
