Greater Montreal area reviews I forgot to write (1 of 2) A long time ago, I found a fairly priced casual French restaurant in the Laurentians that did a fixed price table d'hote lunch where the portions were good enough for portion control, yet satisfying enough for one's appetite. I reviewed it and later became aware that, sadly, they had closed. I really wanted to go back there. I was looking for something similar, befitting a "yellow, orange, and red" sort of day in the Laurentians. There was no such thing to be found. I walked around Saint-Sauveur, saw their postcard-like main church, and checked out the shops and eateries. Both my phone and a local or two steered me to Saint-Sau, indicating this might be the closest thing to what I was looking for. Had I kept on rummaging through Laurentian towns, I could have probably found something closer to what I wanted, but it was definitely time for lunch. I walked into Saint-Sau, which is woodsy, fairly bright, and seems to pull in the sort of crowd who would order things like fondue and such. I picked out a place to sit and was handed a menu. I don't remember how I went through the culling process, but I ended up at the fish and chips. The prices at Saint-Sau are a little bit above the midpoint for this sort of food, but then this is a touristic area, especially in summer and fall, and the prices reflect that. I told the lady providing the service that I was hungry and asked how many pieces of fish would be included. This predominately Francophone cross between a "Dreamboat Annie" and a younger Sarah Palin told me two large pieces or three more normally sized pieces. I was okay with that, so that's what I ordered. I also ordered a soft drink. She was actually very nice and quick on her feet, attending to various tables, and I remember her having somewhat of a deep voice. The food arrived and I looked at what was on the plate. I just sat there with my arms folded and didn't dig in. I don't know if this was noticed and it registered, or they simply needed to do more cooking. Initially, I got two pieces of fish and they were not big enough for what I paid and was expecting. Within about 5 minutes, that third piece of fish arrived. At that point, I was a happy camper, dug in, and woofed down this Laurentian lunch. This town and those frequenting its shops and eateries made for some questions and analysis. With it being peak color, some people were clearly tourists - "leaf peepers." However, some people didn't have the "looking up at skyscrapers" look, meaning they were locals. I also saw some expensive cars with Quebec license plates in the area. Doing the math, these folks could be well paid French-Canadian individuals who own businesses or are in the professions in these Laurentian towns. Or, they could be the same, except that they commute to companies and organizations on the Rive Nord, or even in Laval. Like New York, Los Angeles, or anywhere else in North America, the center of Montreal and its first ring of neighborhoods now look way more international in terms of demographics than they do French-Canadian. With three small pieces of fish (most likely cod) to eat and something to wash it down, I'm glad I came to Saint-Sau. I'm going with three stars because I feel I shouldn't have been perplexed and had to wait for another piece of fish to arrive. At two pieces of fish, the platter would have been overpriced. Also, while waiting and observing the autumn colors outside, I knew that peoplewatching and armchair sociology would inevitably come into play. read more

We ordered fish & chip and a charcuterie. They had a $10 mojito special. The menu was bilingual (French and English). The person who brought me the charcuterie didn't really speak English - I only understood that I got Brie as one of the cheese. Oh, well. read more

They should be reviewed for bib gourmet by Michelin. We needed a break after driving from Washington DC and the yelp reviews were interesting. We got here at 9:45pm and said that the full menu was still available, no rush. The staff were great. We ordered the cheese fondue with mushrooms for two. Added steamed vegetables and filet minion. Fantastic with a bottle of orange rose from chile. This was a great late night meal with bottomless salad ( very fresh with nice oil vinaigrette) and croutons. Would recommend anyone to try this. Then maxim sill let us have a great cream brûlée and cappuccino no rush 1 hour after official closing. This is the real Quebecois way. read more

Pooh and I celebrated our one year wedding anniversary here, tonight. Our server was Sarah and she was amazing; like the road-runner in Bugs Bunny. We started off with a mixed plate of cheeses, dried meats, pâté and crusty bread - sorry no picture but believe me it was delicious!! Pooh had the fillet mignon and I had the faux fillet which was a 12 oz rib steak. We both had lots of grilled veggies and fries. We washed it down with a Spanish red wine. For dessert we each had a café comique. I had an Irish coffee and Pooh had the Brazilian Great restaurant and super service Oh and I should mention that you access the menus through a QR code via your smart phone read more

We were a group of 11 and we found service to be very attentive and kind. The decor has a great apres ski vibe. Lots of TVs, bar, high tables and nice lighting. The food was great with the exception of the Caesar salad (3 diners did not recommend) The mini burgers on appetizer menu are quite big and served as a main. We had steak frites, fish and chips, salmon tartare, mussels - all were great! read more

We walked in because it seemed popular. Pub style spot that was a little busy for a Sunday after in March. We tried the grilled octopus. It was so exceptional that it caught me off guard. The poké bowl was fresh and savoury. My friends really liked their burgers. I recommend them. read more

Sat on the patio for lunch. Good spot for people watching and good food. I had a lobster salad that I'm still thinking about. Generous amount of lobster, really fresh ingredients and great presentation. I loved the mango in the salad. I'd definitely go back. read more

There has to be something for everyone at this local pub! Great draft beer and local options. I ordered the fish and chips with a side of poutine . The veggie burger was equally flavorful. Plenty of daily specials / outdoor seating / and a casual vibe that welcomes the entire family. The menu is expansive from meat to vegan options. read more

Actually wanted to give 3.5/5 My review: went here to celebrate something special. I know the area well, I've worked here and went often with the boys here ( village not pub ). We were planning only to go for a drink but we were a bit hungry, thinking about getting a little appetizer. I took a pignā coloda & my gf took a "limonade gourmante" with alcohol ( you also have without any alcohol). The drinks were good nothing bad to say, I'm really not a big alcohol fan: but this was good. The appetizer... yeah disappointed Service: took about 20-25 minutes ( for only the appetizer ) we took our drinks and then decide to have a snack. Yeah it wasn't great, the waitress told us that it was like "Nachos". It was really not like nachos ... it tastes like dried / fried pasta. We had sour cream with it but they added lemon juice with it ... not great. Also has salsa but not a lot ... I really don't suggest this "appetizer/ snack". I don't go out often / to bars and etc: It was like 30$ for the both of us ... would rather go somewhere to eat and have a "real meal" than a crappy appetizer and 2 drinks. This used to be alright, nothing special. I believe they recently changed owners and they repositioned the menu. All I can say is wow! They elevated the food and I believe this is one of the great places to eat in Saint-Sauveur. Service is friendly and ambiance not too noisy. read more

Great gastro pub, good wines and beer. A variety of shots if that's your jam. Had the duck couscous abd foie gras which was excellent. Highly recommend the papperdelle chips which are basically deep fried pasta and addictive. read more

First I will start withe good. Extremely friendly staff, great surrounding and atmosphere. I ordered breakfast, I had an omelette with Brie cheese, tomatoes and spinach, it is served with coffee, potatoes au gratin fruit and a shot glass of their smoothie of the day. I have to say that I enjoyed it very much and the potatoes really sets them apart. Now with the bad. The portions were very small, I left still feeling hungry, the menu can be a little confusing but the waitress was really nice in explaining it to me. And now for the biggest disappointment, my omelette cost a whopping $17.00 before tax $19.55 tax included plus tip. If money is no object and you do not have a big appetite, I highly recommend this place but if you are looking for a good bang for the buck, keep looking. read more

We waited over one hour for a couple burgers that never came. After the waitress told us it was 5 minutes away, we waited an another 15 minutes and eventually left. Food served at the tables around us look great - but as our plates never came this review is strictly for the service. read more

Had the best breakfast EVER!!! It came with these amazing au gratin potatoes, a brownie, a smoothie shot, toasted baguette, fruit and homemade jam plus the bacon and eggs !! So good!! Will be returning Would definitely recommend!! read more

Location: In the heart of the village, where all the other restaurants are located. It's right on a corner and therefore very loud in summer if you're sitting on the terrace. Service: Average. Nothing about it blew me away. Food: They refer to themselves as being a 'gastro-pub' and maybe they are, however based on my experience, I beg to differ. Granted, I'm basing my review on one visit. I stopped in with my mom for lunch on a Saturday, and we decided to share a club sandwich. This came with fries and slaw. First off, they charged us for sharing the club sandwich, which is completely ridiculous considering all you need to do is bring one extra plate and we can transfer half of the damn thing onto it ourselves. Perhaps if the sandwich had been worth the price that they charged for it, I wouldn't complain. But this wasn't the case. The bread was cold, there was next to no chicken, and taste-wise, it was totally bland. The slaw was ordinary and the fries seemed to be frozen as opposed to homemade. Definitely not worth the price. For the same price (maybe less), you can enjoy pretty decent fare at Ye Olde Orchard, which is just down the street. read more

A bit touristy but still food is good and good vibe. Service is good and the food is good. At night there is music, during the summer all the large windows are open, good drinks, it's rather enjoyable I won't lie. One of the good layback spots in the area. Solid breakfast too! read more

If I could give this place 0 stars, I would. We're from Toronto so we know a good meal and service. Terrible food and even worse service. Our waitress forgot our soup starter and brought our mains (tapas) without any sideplates. She still put the soup on our bill despite forgetting it and bringing it after our main course. She did not stop by to ask how our meals were or if we needed condiments etc. we had to flag her down for ketchup and more drinks and pop is not unlimited ($4 for a tiny glass of pop-- but fries were all u can eat???!!!) The eggplant caviar was so horrible and bland and the poutine was absolutely disgusting-- think cheese curds that don't melt and LIGHT PINK sweet gravy. The fries were totally soggy. The only good thing we ate were the mini burgers and they have guinness on tap. Still not redeeming qualities in a way overpriced shitty pub. Don't waste your time !!!! read more

Service was slow, alcoholic drinks are watered down, and they do not have tonic water to mix a gin and tonic. We had drinks and finger food and did not get a napkin. The woman's bathroom had no hand towels or hand dryer, don't waste your hard earned money. Go elsewhere! read more

We just had an incredible dinner! Kids had poutine. My son scooped up every last bit of gravy. The bison burger was cooked perfectly. The veal chop melts in your mouth. The staff was very friendly. Highly recommend! read more

This is the most popular corner in Saint-Sauveur. Last year it was renovated and re-opened as restaurant pub. They have a great choice of wines and beers, the food is good and the service very good. They also provide live music some days. They also serve a very good breakfast, and in the evening one might order a Steak Tartar too. The décor and atmosphere are very pleasant, and there is outside seating too. A lively place in the heart of this tourist village! read more

Best poutine ever. The gravy is so good I wanted to drink it (don't judge), the cheese churds were fresh and squeaky, the fries nicely browned. My husband and I both had the burger with brie and caramelized onions and it was fantastic. Great selection of local beers. Good kids menu with some more interesting food than just pizza or fries. read more

My wife and I had lunch here recently, and it was delicious! They had some turnip and carrot soup that honestly sounded a little strange, but was one of the most delicious soups I've ever had. This pub is trying to pass itself off as "gourmand", and in reading the menu it sounded promising. It started off with the waitress forgetting our wine and then she needed to be reminded of the actual order. The starter was brought luke warm and without side plates. The $26 risotto was a tiny portion of pasty over cooked bland cold rice. The portion was about 5 mouthfuls that left us so hungry we had to order a side of fries. In general the severs were inattentive and distracted, we had to find and flag them down for service and it was not even busy. read more
