After 3 years apparently you're discarded and considered a new patient, and every PCP office I called within the Lees Summit and surrounding areas either aren't accepting new patients or they're not scheduling new patient appointments for a minimum of 5-8 months, leaving me without help after severely injuring my back, I was in so much pain, and I needed immediate care, so I made a same day appointment (on a Sunday) at NextCare Urgent Care is Lees Summit (off of McBaine Drive), and they exceeded my expectations in every way. First, you can make an appointment online, and they honor those appointments (no matter how many walk-ins are there before you.) In addition I have received exceptional care. I've been twice in the last 2 weeks, and have had to call in multiple times. They are always quick to respond and incredibly helpful. From the front desk (who is also the R.T./x-ray tech), to the nurse who was so kind, caring and helpful, to the Dr/FNP Thomas Sims, I have received excellent care. I cannot say enough great things about them. If you need immediate care (that doesn't require going to the ER) I encourage you to make an appointment with NextCare Urgent Care in Lee's Summit. You will not be disappointed.

My sternum was broken my unfortunate discovery is still in the beginning of the recovery process but I'm glad I chose this hospital to be seen in. I've been to several different ER's in the past but this has been the best place to go to during a variety of health needs that I have had come up with me. This was kinda funny but I found charging cables out in the waiting room and I was impressed with this because I had been in the other hospitals waiting area after I had been discharged and I was waiting for my ride home and they didn't have anything to help people like that. I've been trying to be very careful and not say the name of the other place but I will be leaving them a review on my opinions on my last visit so if you are trying to use the reviews to see which one is a better option you just might find me there too. But I have been impressed with this place for a while now and it's why I chose them again. They're always looking for ways to make things better for everyone.

I rarely leave reviews like this, but my experience at Saint Luke's East Emergency Department was…read moreextremely disappointing. I arrived at 12:10 a.m. and was not taken to a room until 3:30 a.m. I understand ERs triage by acuity, so the wait alone is not my primary complaint. My concern is what happened once I was roomed. The treatment room was visibly dirty--full trash and dirty-linen receptacles, debris/hair on the floor, and a dirty pillow underneath the bed. I reported it to the nurse and was told it would be addressed. I also took photos documenting the conditions. Dr. Cox was the bright spot of the experience. He was caring, compassionate, and took my concerns seriously. Unfortunately, after he ordered my workup, there were significant delays. Radiology came twice to perform my CT but couldn't proceed because the required IV had not been placed. Despite multiple calls for assistance, my IV wasn't established until more than an hour after Dr. Cox evaluated me. After the shift change, my experience with Dr. Burley was completely different. I found his bedside manner dismissive, accusatory, and lacking compassion. I felt rushed out rather than treated like a patient whose concerns mattered. Between the dirty room, poor responsiveness, delays in ordered care, and dismissive discharge experience, I was extremely disappointed. I appreciate Dr. Cox's professionalism, but based on my overall experience, I would not return to Saint Luke's East for emergency care.

My grandfather took me to the Emergency wing of Lee's Summit Medical Center on June 21st due to a…read moreterrifying itchy, nightmare of a rash that was rapidly spreading and heating up on my Entire body! While all skin surfaces were getting covered in raised, lava patches of terror, my organs, joints, jaw, and internals were sore, stiff, and horrible. My fevers ranging from 99.2 to 102. The individuals working the lobby were professional, quick, and seemed to know what they were doing in their positions. Less than several minutes of being seen by my nurse and doctor, they both recognized immediately I was experiencing a dangerous, full-blown internal and external allergic reaction to some kind of medication. I told them I was taking a steroid-type medication called "Cadista" that was pathetically prescribed to me from the terrible doctor who saw me at the Saint Luke's Emergency Hospital on June 19th. But don't worry, that review will be posted about that nightmare at Saint Luke's very soon.. It was a horrible and upsetting experience for both my Aunt and I and because I was completely dismissed and ignored, and ridiculously miss-diagnosed with an outbreak of what they believed were mosquito bites all over my legs and hips, I could have ended up in FAR worst condition without the proper care I got at L.S.M.C. Yes, I am still very upset with that place.. -___- Anywho, Heather was the name of the doctor at Lee's Summit M.C., and after explaining to her how Saint Luke's treated me, my Aunt, and my situation, I then told her I was seen by the MinuteClinic of CVS on June 12th. I went in that day due to highly infected insect bites I had on my left hip. My grandfather was convinced I might have been bitten by a brown recluse! Thankfully I wasn't, and was diagnosed with Staph infection then provided a Sulfa-based antibiotic which Instantly told Heather and her nurse what my body was reacting to. Sure enough, I learned on June 21st that I am Deathly allergic to Any medication containing "Sulfonamides". Thanks to the wonderful people I was fortunate enough to see that day, I was instructed to completely Stop the medication and to regularly take 50mgs of Benadryl (according to the instructions they gave me of course) until my body naturally overcomes it's escalated response to the medication. It was an EXTERMELY rough ride 5 days after starting on that antibiotic from CVS. I'm also not going to sit here and blame CVS for my body reacting the way it did to the antibiotic they prescribed me. Unfortunately situations like mine is how people discover their medication allergies.. For the most part that is. My family and I don't know what would have happened if I had finished that medication, while Completely unaware I was dangerously allergic to it. The people I saw at Lee's Summit's ER knew immediately what was happening and did what they could, and I will forever be grateful to them.. And of course from that visit I learned from my Doctor that not only was Cadista the lowest and weakest form of that steroid, but it was enough to inflame and amplify my body's reaction to my allergy, making it all that much worse.. I strongly suggest everyone I love and care about to seek care at Lee's Summit Medical Center ! o____o I'm glad I remembered to take a snapshot of the facility. I've certainly taken better photos than that one, but it's better then noth'n I suppose.

The food service department at this hospital needs a complete overhaul. My mother has severe celiac…read moredisease and cannot have wheat or gluten, yet approximately 95% of the meals she has been served during her recent hospitalizations have arrived with gluten-containing items or have otherwise been prepared incorrectly. She has been hospitalized three times in the past month, and every single time we have had to watch her meals like a hawk because the food service department repeatedly gets her dietary restrictions wrong. At this point, when she receives a meal that is actually correct, it feels like a miracle. Getting her order wrong has become the norm. We have repeatedly explained her dietary restrictions to the staff. We have met with the kitchen manager, spoken with the patient advocate, alerted her care teams, and made sure her celiac disease and dietary restrictions are clearly documented in her chart. Despite all of this, the mistakes continue. Just today, she ordered a meal specifically without gravy and without a bun. They brought her a meal with gravy all over it and a hamburger bun. She had to send the entire meal back. This is not an isolated incident--it is one of what feels like dozens of meals that have had to be sent back because the food service department failed to follow her dietary restrictions. What is especially frustrating is that the department has actually tried to blame these repeated mistakes on construction. That is not an acceptable excuse. Even if construction were somehow affecting food service operations, the hospital still has an obligation to provide patients with food that is safe for them to eat. And celiac disease is only one type of dietary restriction or food allergy. There are many patients in a hospital who may be dealing with serious food allergies or medically necessary diets. Some patients may not be able to see their meal clearly, may be confused, exhausted, sedated, or simply assume that the hospital has provided them with food that is safe to eat. They may eat something they should not and become seriously ill. For someone with a severe food allergy, the consequences can be life-threatening. That is what makes this so disturbing. This isn't about getting the wrong side dish or an incorrect meal preference. This is about patient safety. The LSMC Food Service Department is putting patients in DANGER and nobody is doing a darn thing. We have raised the issue repeatedly with multiple people, yet nothing seems to change. Patients with serious dietary restrictions should not have to rely on themselves or their family members to catch potentially dangerous mistakes before they eat. Patients deserve better than this. Safe food should be a basic part of safe patient care. What if a patient suddenly had breathing trouble directly because of food service not being competent around allergies? This is a MAJOR LIABILITY to Patients and the hospital. LSMC do better and start caring about this before someone gets seriously ill or dies because of your food service incompetence!
