I debated between three and four stars and went with four because the bottom line on a place is to me, would you go back? And I definitely would. We went for a brunch. Everything was pretty tasty, and there was no crowd whatsoever on a Sunday late morning when trying to get into many brunch places would be impossible. I think we both had eggs Benedict dishes, mine was with crabcakes and my wife's was with salmon. Fried potato chunks on the side. Very tasty, all of it. We also ordered some sides to take home. I wanted to try their gumbo and their étouffée. The gumbo was OK, not very rich or flavorful, but overall decent. Could've used more meat chunks. When I got home, I learned that they had given me red beans and rice instead of the étouffée. That was disappointing, but the red beans and rice were definitely spicy, and actually they had more meat in them than the gumbo. I wanted to try their Boudin entrée, but they were out of it. And the waiter didn't offer much hope that I could get it in the near future. Speaking of the waiter, the one we had this Sunday morning was the epitome of droll, in both weird and humorous ways. My favorite example was when I asked him if I could call before coming in next time to see if they had the Boudin in stock and he rolled his eyes and said "oh, don't call... I have to run all the way from the bar over to the other wall to get the phone." However, the service was altogether fine. One other small thing, food was served on paper plates. Maybe their dishwasher was broken, I don't know, but it seemed like that's just the way it was. Given the dearth of good Cajun food in the Knoxville area, I would go here again. I really wish I would have gotten to try the étouffée, which was an interesting item using mushroom and kale. So not a traditional étouffée by any means, but it might be good. Oh, I should add. They had bloody Maries at a very good price for the brunch and I enjoyed that. read more

We finally made it to St. Lucille's in Knox and wow--worth every bite! We tried both the regular and voodoo-style jambalaya and they did not disappoint. The voodoo kicked it up a notch with just the right heat--spicy, bold, and full of flavor. If you like a little fire, go voodoo! But the real surprise? That praline cream cheese spread!!! Sweet, creamy, with a nutty crunch that added the perfect southern charm. We honestly wanted to put it on everything! The vibe was just as good as the food--laid-back, soulful, and full of flavor. I am going to call this a hidden gem, but in reality it is in an area I frequent and only realized how close it was to other downtown north businesses until I arrived. The decor is right on point. Cozy, downtown vibe with some New Orleans flair. The rest of the experience is very casual. Order at the bar and food delivered to the table in plastic baskets and utensils. This wasn't what I was expecting, but after getting the food I didn't care. We rolled the dice on the Hop Cakes appetizer and they were a fantastic surprise. I didn't know what to expect, but gobbled them up. I wanted to go traditional for my first visit and got the red beans and rice and was not disappointed. My wife got the gumbo and said it was on par with the best she has ever had. The food was not as spicy as traditional Cajun but that actually worked great for us. We like a little spice but want to be able to taste the quality ingredients that were used. If you want to bring the heat, grab some hot sauce to "pepper the gumbo" as they say in the bayou. read more

I don't know how this place isn't packed to the brim. I opted for the mushroom and kale étouffée and I can't tell you how impressively flavorful it is even though it's vegan. You can't even tell it wasn't made with some savory meat broth. The crawfish étouffée is also so full of crawfish and the right amount of spice (remember to fish out that bay leaf). The chicken and sausage gumbo was also so well seasoned without being too salty which I think is the artful line between a good and incredible gumbo. The bread to dip is also fluffy and lightly toasted with butter. I'd rank the étouffées over the gumbo if I had to pick. Now I'm going to wish I lived closer to Knoxville to eat this all the time. I'm from New Orleans and when I say that I mean my parents still have the oldest Mardi Gras mask shop in the French Quarter since 1984. My dear friend plays jazz music at Preservation Hall and I own a furniture store where I furnished Fat's Dominos entire house after Hurricane Katrina. My friend's family owns Perrone & Sons which partnered with Progress Grocery over 100 years ago to create the first Muffaletta sandwich in New Orleans. They produce and sell two million mini Muffaletta sandwiches a year! I was very hesitant to eat here but LOVED the food! The rest beans and rice was delicious! One of the best I ever had. The Muffaletta had a delicious crispy bun and the BBQ shrimp was yummy!! I would love to see them serving Beignets as deserts in the future. Great job and hope to be back again read more

This is essentially a nice bar with a good number of tables. You order at the bar and then they bring you your food to your table. Food was really good, I had shrimp and grits and my husband had the muffuletta sandwich with Cajun slaw. Some of the best of each we've had in Knoxville. I was really looking forward to this Cajun Shrimp Boil, but unfortunately, it was anything but. What was advertised as a proper boil turned out to be a plate of unseasoned shrimp with cocktail sauce, two small potatoes, and a half ear of corn--hardly what anyone would consider a Cajun boil. When we asked for seasoning, we were given a tiny condiment cup of generic dry seasoning that barely helped. On top of that, the portion was only enough for one person, even though a boil is typically meant to be shared. To make matters worse, we saw the bartender ask a customer to hand another customer napkins instead of coming out from behind the bar to do it himself. That's just unacceptable service. Overall, this event was misleading and disappointing. If you're going to advertise a Cajun boil, at least serve something that resembles one! I hope the restaurant takes this feedback seriously because this was nowhere near the experience we were expecting. read more

Had the most amazing food at Saint Lucilles. Stumbled upon this gem on a Knox Brew Bus tour that brought us to Crafty Bastard brewery located next door to the restaurant. The service was impeccable and the chef came out and started talking about food business and where we had both worked in kitchens throughout the county. He showed me his awesome chocolate roux the base to all his delicious dishes. The chicken and sausage gumbo was equally rich and packed with flavor with just enough heat to keep you wanting more and more! The Muffaleta was awesome but that sode of Red Beans and Rice was the creme de la creme. So good. The vibe was small, quaint and super chill. It all about the high quality food and service. Was returning home from vacation and stopped in Knoxville to go to Mass at Holy Ghost Catholic Church. Afterwards we wanted to dine at a local restaurant and found St Lucille's. The restaurant is quaint and warm and the staff were extremely friendly. Ordering is at done at the bar and the food is brought to your table. The wait in between was about 10 or less minutes. Our orders of red beans and rice, shrimp and grits, and chicken and sausage gumbo were delicious! Given all this and a very affordable price made this experience quite enjoyable. Beautiful night, ate outdoors and enjoyed everything we tried! Started with the crawfish dip, then moved on to BBQ shrimp (cooked perfectly, with French bread for dipping in the spicy sauce!). The red beans and rice are the best I've had since being in Louisiana. The Po' Boys are on authentic Gambino's bread from New Orleans, which is a must! And the muffalettas have the spicy giardiniera, which makes all the difference in the world. They have several vegetarian and vegan options that I can't wait to try.
