Wow... This place was amazing... But it is not a fancy place or upscale for that special occasion. It is just a great place for a meal. You have to order at the cash register, the menu is limited, and the food is served in a to go package. But the folks are super nice and attentive. The food is awesome with big portions. I had never eaten Jamaican cuisine before so they helped me navigate the menu and find the right meal. I had the jerk chicken with the sides of garlic potatoes and rice with peas. There was a lot of food there. The chicken was wonderful a bit spicy but still wonderful. I loved the potatoes and the rice. They don't have fountain soda so I had a Jamaican cream soda. We arrived at the Cherry St. location on a weekday around 6:40 p.m.. Three other guests arrived right after us. The place was empty otherwise, and all of us were ordering take-out. They were out of Oxtail which 2 of the guests wanted. They had just run out of Goat Curry, and several other dishes I couldn't hear the names of. Not much atmosphere; the vinyl tablecloths were half on/half off the tables, there were clothes spread on one table, a pair of shoes at the end of another. I felt we were in an "employee's break room" of a discount store. We recently read that Dulcie's had opened a 2nd location on Gay St. I don't think they are ready for Gay St. by any means. The portions were large, food was hot, and quite delicious. Prices are a bit high though. Being sold out of the limited dishes on the menu isn't a good way to run a business. Service was quick and friendly, but not the sort of place I'd want to eat inside; take-out would be the only option I'd choose. We'll give them a few weeks to get settled in the Gay St. location and try it again, but honestly, I'm not really excited about the prospect. During my 38 years in the Coast Guard I spent lots of time in Jamaica, and the limited food items are authentic, but missing was one of the most basic items, Callaloo. You can buy it at the local Publix, but not at Dulcie's Jamaican Cafe! Would I recommend it? Not really unless you were desperate for a "Jamaican food fix". read more

It was priced more than I expected but I wanted some Jamaican food. The plate was loaded full! A drumstick, thigh and part of a breast. Dry rub seasoning was excellent. A little hot but not too spicy. Mac and cheese was good with fresh cheddar melted on top. The excellent side of cabbage is shredded and sautéed with green peppers, carrots, and onion. I'm from Florida and the Jamaican restaurants are so much tastier than this place. I've never had plantains that were so flat and dried out! I got (2) orders of them thinking they would be delicious and what a disappointment. My escovich fish was not only dry but the portion size was terrible for the $30 price tag! My husband's oxtails were over seasoned and possibly overcooked, had a burnt taste to them. And where was the banmie bread that I always get with every meal. I won't change the star rating for this update but do want to note a few things. Mainly, I'd suggest they work on quality control-- especially regards to how the food comes out each time. This visit we ordered jerk chicken, brown stew chicken (may have that name wrong), rice/beans and rasta pasta. The spice level was HIGH-- much higher than when we ate there before. The stew chicken was still very tasty but whereas before it had come with lots of a rich and wonderful broth, this time it was pretty dry with little of the sauce. The jerk chicken was EXCELLENT and lots of it-- lots more of it than the stew chicken. Service was....let's say relaxed. I root for this place but want to see them be more consistent in service and food quality. read more

The expected ones like sweet plantains and rice and peas are real good. It may surprise you that Dulcie males the best potato salad your gonna have. I was born and raised in Jamaica and I've eaten and cooked an unmeasurable amount of Jamaican food. With that in mind I must rate my experience at a 2. I had the curry chicken with cabbage, rice and plantain, in addition to a beef patty. The curry was not curry, it lacked flavor and the sauce was too watery. The rice and peas was just ok and the cabbage was an after thought. The beef patty was over baked and dry. The portion size/ price ratios was way off. They should consider a complete reevaluation of their recipes and portion sizes. With all that said I wish them future success. read more

Stopped by on a whim to grab some to go lunch. Excellent! Had the small jerk chicken with fried plantains and Rasta pasta. A ton of food for $8. The chicken was perfect, plantains were great, and the pasta was, well, pasta, but with a kick. Nice staff and the order took about 10 minutes. We have been meaning to try Dulcie's for some time now. We went this Friday and got take-out for dinner and liked it so much we came back Saturday, too. All the food was delicious. We had jerk chicken, which was my personal favorite, very smoky and flavorful; curry goat, which was very tender and tasty; brown stew chicken and curry chicken, which were both fall-off-the-bone tender and juicy. As for the sides, they are all fantastic. My wife loved the plantains best while I think for me it was the crispy-on-the-outside, tender-on-the-inside garlic potatoes. The Rasta pasta was also spicy and righteous. Beans and rice were the right combo of smoky and spicy. Service was prompt and friendly, and I like the ambience of the interior, especially the bumping tunes. We will be back, hopefully often! read more
