I went to the Hamilton, OH, Social Security office and sat waiting for hours before I could talk to a person. That person said, "I can see the number you have," told me what it was, and told me that that the website would be fixed within six weeks so I could track them myself. Six weeks later, it wasn't fixed. I went back to the Social Security office AGAIN and waited for hours AGAIN. This time, another person told me that the website would definitely be fixed within two weeks. Well, another two weeks have passed, and guess what? The website still shows I had zero points, which is just plain wrong. Three months later? Still not fixed. Why can't they just make their website work properly? I've already been there nine times and wasted countless hours while they do absolutely nothing to help. To make matters worse, during a phone appointment, a "Ms. Johnson" insulted me. I wrote a complaint to Social Security. I received no acknowledgement and no apology. They did nothing about it, just like they've done nothing to solve my problem. I am not for privatizing Social Security. The billionaires are already stealing from the working class, and we don't need to make it easy for them to steal more. However, there needs to be better oversight. Social Security has bad management. If these so-called "managers" don't want to do their jobs, then they must be replaced.

The Courthouse is the second dedicated courthouse of Decatur County. Plans for the building were drafted in 1854 by a committee composed of B. Y. Wilson, I. G. Monfort and B. H. Harney. Construction was overseen by Indianapolis architect, Edwin May, who designed the Indiana State House. The final cost of the Romanesque brink structure and grounds was $120,000. The courthouse opened in 1861. Rennovations to update and repair the building have been made periodically throughout the years beginning in 1889 and an expansion in 1997. The staff is friendly and the officer relayed anecdotal stories about the tree(s). The original tree appeared in the 1870s. Additional sprouts appeared over the years, but have been culled to protect the structure. The tree that exists today is a spout of the original tree. The tree has been identified as a large tooth aspen. Inside the courthouse has been preserved throughout history. Iron stairs ascend to the second floor courts. Original oak trim and some furniture adorn the halls. Historical transfer books neatly stacked in cubbies. Court was in session, so I was unable to visit the courtrooms. Framed historical newspaper articles tell stories from the past. The Courthouse is uniquely poised for visitors. On the immaculate grounds surrounding the Courthouse are a War Memorial and several historic markers.

While here, I enjoyed the markers in the courthouse and of course, the tree. The marker reads, "Site of the original court house built in 1827 and occupied until 1854. Present building completed in 1860. Large tooth aspen tree appeared in 1870 on the roof of the 115 foot clock tower. In July, 1863, it became a temporary armory while troops bivouacked on the lawn. The treasurer's office held provisions to feed 10 regiments. The 7th Regimental Band had played weekly on the square before being militarized. Many political figures have given speeches from the steps. It was placed on the National Register of Historic Places in 1973." Yes, there is a tree growing on the roof. It was noticed in 1870 and it's a tourist draw. Yes, a real tree. [Review 20519 overall - 65 in Indiana - round number 1500 of 2023.]

I am a presidential history "nerd". I've read a biography on each president in order (currently…read morereading F.D.R.), and my bucket list includes visiting all their birth and burial places. I also make it a point to visit presidential libraries, national historic sites, etc. I've visited DOZENS of locations spanning multiple states. WHH's burial place is impressive. It sits atop a small hill overlooking the Ohio River. I was impressed with well-maintained grounds. I'm always impressed when I go to a location like this and it's not totally covered with graffiti. I am also really impressed the tomb is open to the public; you can literally walk inside, sign a guestbook, and see WHH's resting place. It is a remarkable monument and I visited on a beautiful day. It's definitely worth your time. My only issue: I thought the information board "The death of a president" (or whatever it was) on the wall inside the tomb was unnecessary and borderline cheesy.

Harrison passed away from pneumonia only 31 days into his Presidency. His final resting place is located in Cleves, Ohio. Between reading the signs, looking at the monument, and going on a small hike, we spent maybe 45 minutes at the location. Ample signage near the parking lot gives some history about William Henry Harrison. Hiking is permitted in the wooded area. There is a stream that snakes through part of the woods. This isn't one of those places one frequents for the monument. Maybe if looking for a place to go on short hikes. Or if one has out of town guests, who are interested in history. It is a real field trip sort of spot. That being said, it was interesting to see. I am glad we had the opportunity to check it out. The gate to the tomb is locked during winter months. We may return during the Spring/Summer to take a look inside.

I said no, I checked in online (I thought she meant a physical ticket) and she snapped at me and asked me if I "even called to make sure I have what I needed." I showed her my phone (the ticket) while she continued to be pissed off under her breath. Turns out, I did not need my last name changed and she changed her tune very quickly after seeing my ID. Maybe because I'm younger and explained my parents had me as teenagers so I had no clue about anything I was doing? Regardless, I've NEVER had someone who is working speak to me like that. Absolutely not okay. Either she needs better training or she needs to find a different line of work. I've never left a bad review before, but her attitude towards absolutely warrants the one star.

Been going to…read morethe USAF museum since the first big buildings opened, and have watched the expansions every decade or so. But there is a lot more to Dayton. Yes, Wright-Patt is central to the city, but Delco, NCR, the universities, and more add to the culture and economy. There's a decent food scene. I discover more hidden gems on every trip. There are several good breweries. The city has had some down times, but is coming back strong. The base helps, and other draws like the amazing Art Institute, Carillon Park, the Packard Museum (in an old dealership) and more. Some pretty impressive parks and trails that I have just barely begun to explore. Not far from Cinci and Columbus, and Miami in Oxford, Dayton is worth the hour or so drive. Spend a day, have some fun, eat something good.

Now before your brain goes "Air Force Museum, strip clubs and meh food" there are some things I want to share with you about this interesting city. First of all, they have a great craft beer scene here. I can tell you that their brew scene is easily equal to anything that Columbus and Cincinnati is offering up these days. I'm working my way through my bucket list with Carillon Brewing, Toxic Brew, Warped Wing, Eudora Brewing Co. and Dayton Brewing Company all coming to mind. If beer isn't your thing, then I'd recommend The Belle of Dayton Distillery. They make their own rum and vodka and it's a great place to settle in, have a drink and enjoy the local cool spot called The Oregon District. The Oregon District, by the way, is a great urban downtown neighborhood. It's bohemian, trendy, gritty, cosmopolitan and it's a great place to have lunch, dinner and cocktails. It's one of the prime areas to get out of your car and explore all the little shops and boutiques that inhabit the area. Look up some of the reviews and I bet you'll be ready to head over and explore one of the cool spots of this Midwestern city. Now how can we talk about Dayton and not mention Wegerzyn Gardens and The Cox Arboretum? Both are wonderful green spaces that are true gems in this city. For those folks that prefer to get into nature while pedaling over and around, check out the Miami Valley River Trail. With 330 miles of bike trails, it's the largest system in the US. If you're not so much into nature, of course the National Museum Of The United States Air Force is world renowned and visited by people from all over the world. I'm sure some of them also find their way to The Dayton Art Institute, Carillon Historical Park, America's Packard Museum and one of the favorites for the folks with kids and grandkids: The Boonshoft Museum of Discovery. And lastly, for the foodies: Check out Dorothy Lane Markets. There's 3 of them and all are worthy of a visit although the Washington Square location on Far Hills is my favorite by far. Just go there and be impressed. So there you have it. Dayton. I'm having a great time exploring the area and I hope you do too. A solid 4 stars.
