This is our favorite hotel when visiting family in the area. It is a sprawling resort, as the name implies, and there are plenty of hallways, wings, and cultivated grounds to explore. Its an ideal destination for an extended stay. As a former seminary built in the 1940's, the architectural flourishes are second to none. Design aficionados will be in aesthetic heaven. There are three restaurants on site - an Irish Pub, a wine Bar, and a Steakhouse with a bar and breakfast service. The wine bar is definitely worth a visit, whereas I recommend the other two options primarily for their convenience. Service is exceptional and the beds are firm but very comfortable, nonetheless. The in-room TV supports casting TV & movie apps - Netflix, Hulu, etc. - but not music apps, for some reason. Fortunately we brought a WiFi speaker. A few notes on accessibility follow. For context, I can walk with crutches but need to use a wheelchair for long distances. And this hotel is all about long distances. We had an accessible king room, and while the lanes for navigating a wheelchair around the bed are tight, they are manageable. The bed is super comfortable but also very TALL. It could be tricky to transfer to the bed from a wheelchair without assistance of crutches. There is plenty of space in the bathroom and the roll in-shower has a good set up with an accessible shelf for shampoo, etc. Be careful with the bathroom door - it is a very heavy sliding door with a strange locking mechanism. The public spaces in the hotel, including the restrooms, are generally modern and accessible. I also noticed that the pool has a swing chair for water access. One exception is the Irish Pub, which treated accessibility as an afterthought when it was designed. There is no wheelchair access within the hotel - you'll want to drive around to the back to use its parking lot. Additionally, to get to the restroom or the second floor of the pub you'll need to use one of smallest prefab dumb waiters I've ever been in. Finally, be advised that the entrance to the hotel is at the top of a steep hill, and the porte-cochère landing itself is at a slant. Be agile with your brakes, and let your companion park the car after you've exited if you can. Also note that there are only 4 designated accessible parking spaces. We've seen them all full on multiple occasions; for a parking lot of its size, the hotel should probably add about 4 more. read more

I had the opportunity to attend a wedding at the beautiful St. John's resort, humanitarian hotel. I have to say I wish I had the opportunity to stay in some of the rooms because just sitting and walking around the grounds prior to the after party for the wedding I was absolutely mesmerized. I highly suggest if you're a golf enthusiast or you're just looking for a place for a tranquil getaway this is an amazing location now although I didn't get a chance to stay in the room, some of the outdoor sitting areas were so relaxing. read more

There are beautiful paintings, sculptures, and various works of art everywhere. But no, St. John's Resort is one of the most beautiful and very best hotels I've ever stayed it. The complex has a fascinating history. The grounds started off as a seminary in the 1940's and served that purpose for 40 years. A golf course, ornate ballrooms and four restaurants were added, and the property was repurposed into a magnificent resort hotel in 2021. And best of all, 100% of their profits go to charity. I attended a four-day conference here a few days ago, and I was awestruck by the magnificence of the building, the high quality of our meals, and the incredibly helpful and friendly staff. Everyone said hello with a smile, and one afternoon when I was carrying a box of supplies up to my room a cheerful gent asked if he could carry it for me! Our sleeping room was large and luxurious with plenty of workspace and charging outlets, great WIFI and air conditioning. The bathroom was huge, and the shower was outstanding. Our meeting rooms, breakout rooms, and meal functions were flawless, and the catering was excellent. Fantastic, just fantastic on every count. read more

This is a perfect place for a weekend "staycation" if you live in the Detroit metro area - we came during the Winter, but I bet it's even more beautiful in the Summer, and we already look forward to returning. The rooms are modern and new, the beds are comfortable, the TV worked great with casting from our phone with Netflix, the amenities are nice and the bathrooms are clean with nice lighting. We had a pretty view from the 5th floor - it's probably amazing in the Fall with the colors of the trees. The lobby is stunning with a fireplace and skylight - they also offer spa waters in the afternoon and coffee and tea in the morning. Check in and out was very smooth - friendly service and they texted to check on us that night. I love that you can go to the Wine Grotto and 5ive Steakhouse all in the same building - it's perfect for Winter. You can get dressed up and not have to go into the cold at all. There is so much beautiful art all throughout the building - you can walk around and view glass pieces and paintings like a small art gallery. A very nice touch. We didn't get to experience the beautiful pool and hot tub, as we only stayed for one night and didn't really have time, but we already look forward to coming back this summer when my Dad can golf and Mom and I can hang at the pool. Very nice venue for a wedding reception which we attended for a friend of the family. The facility, which apparently can handle up to five wedding receptions at a time, is quite spacious with separate large cocktail rooms associated with each banquet room. The whole facility is top shelf in all aspects, with tasteful decorations through out. The organization of the events and how the staff facilitated the cocktail hour and the transition into the dinner and subsequent entertainment was quite impressive. The staff and management are like a well oiled machine where practice has made perfect in this case. Relative to the drinks/food, I thought that they were good but could have been better. The cocktails were strong and so so and lacking the ingredients/balance of what I am accustomed to. Relative to the meal, it was well cooked and had a great serving appearance exuding a high end meal but lacked a little on the flavor profile to take it over the top. This is probably in part to where they have toned down the spices to appease the masses and avoid offending some of the folks palettes which I get but have often wondered does it make sense where 90 percent of the folks are denied a floor pop to appease the 10 percentiles. Oh well no my wedding and not my rules but 10 percentiles be damned (: Overall a great venue and a well run and tasteful wedding reception that should make most newly wed couples happy with their wedding. read more

Love St. Johns in Plymouth Mi. They are very classey and yet the uniforms for the staff and restaurant are like a dive bar. I asked them at different times do you like what you had to wear. The answer was always I hate these uniforms. They are ulgy and do not fit this beautiful hotel. Why can't they have black and white or something else. Our recent visit was for a brunch to celebrate a close family friend's special occasion. We reserved a private dining room and had a preset menu. The resort is beautiful both inside and outside with their well manicured lawns and landscapes. The meal we had included both a tender beef and salmon combination with a cheesecake dessert. The food was very good. There were some drinks that were self service, but also others we had to order. That was part of their struggle they didn't remember the drinks after I asked for sparkling juice and mimosas and I had to ask 3 times to get the mimosa. They never brought the sparkling juice because the server ran out of the one bottle and rather go get more she said "the walk is too far" . Uh okay, that is odd. So not the right answer. Would we come back? Yes, it is quite lovely, but that is just some lazy service that hopefully doesn't translate to the rest of the resort. read more

DISCLAIMER: This review reflects Saint John's Resort as a wedding venue. My husband and I feel it's important to share this information to save any future brides/grooms the stress we had to endure. We had a beautiful wedding in the Mosaic Ballroom on August 1st, 2025 and we are so grateful for the day-of staff, as they pulled everything together to fix the many mistakes of the coordinators. When we first came to Saint John's, prior to any payments being made, Saint John's staff was kind, communicative, and helpful. It felt as soon as we paid they stopped responding with efficiency and stopped caring. We had to contact our wedding coordinator, Sarah Jones, superior, CeCe Smith, to handle things 3 weeks before the wedding. Sarah and I had a "miscommunication" about how much time we had to set up the ceremony. I was told it was hours, when in reality another wedding ceremony was ending only an hour before mine. This was not mentioned by Sarah, I discovered this while talking to a ceremony assistant on the phone the week before the wedding. CeCe said during the phone call we had that she would let the wedding ceremony assistants know that they need to set up some aisle chair decorations, chair reserved signs, and some programs. On the night of the ceremony practice, I had to unfortunately surprise the ceremony coordinators with this information because they only knew about the programs. I thought the call with CeCe was productive and she was very nice, but apparently there was a lack of follow-through. The ceremony coordinators were lovely, their names were Judy and Emily and luckily, they were willing to do these things for me. I highly recommend asking for them, they made me feel like a bride! Something that had been lacking from the staff I dealt with prior to the wedding day. The night before the wedding when we were setting up the reception, the mosaic ballroom smelt musty, and I had to ask them to spray something. It was better the next morning. They also had hundreds of chairs behind a curtain blocking a beautiful mural that we wanted showing, as that was how they showed it to us during the booking. I had to send an email the night before my wedding to have this fixed. In the morning it was fixed. The venue is good at responding to problems, but these problems shouldn't exist, and that's the core issue at Saint John's. On the day of the wedding there were a few things that caused stress for us.I was in the ballroom checking everything around 10:00 AM on the morning of the wedding and two employees came in and told me that the 36 tapered candle holders I had purchased would not be able to be used. This was upsetting as we set out everything the night before. I had to call my florist and luckily she had enough hurricane vases, which apparently have to be used at the venue. The wedding coordinator Sarah Jones told me that as long as the candle was in a glass holder and it wouldn't drip on the table, it was fine. Now I am told that this is a fire hazard, something not communicated prior. I wish I had known this before as I would have purchased the correct candles.This was so much unnecessary anxiety and tears I did not need the morning of my wedding. Second, they make the vendors travel through underground tunnels with all the set-up items, instead of just letting them park by the door and carry it in. While I understand that it's not ideal to have vans pulled up to the hotel constantly, it makes vendors' lives very difficult, and it's confusing. My flower vendor, Andrea Millar, got lost on the day of the wedding and my bridesmaids had to go find her as they wouldn't let her park by the ballroom. The reason everything worked out was because my flower vendor was amazing and she went above and beyond to figure things out.Third, during the dinner portion, I noticed a server was going to people asking them what they had ordered so I asked her what was happening and she said she never received the photocopies of the menu indicator key I created and emailed to Sarah. Again, I don't know if this was an error that happened with the wedding coordinators or the kitchen, but either way it's ridiculous. I had to tell her what the stickers meant, during my wedding dinner, because Saint John's was so unorganized. Lastly on a positive note, Nicole, one of the head servers, was incredibly kind and helpful. Without her quick thinking, the night would not have gone as smoothly as it did. She is an asset to Saint John's and they are lucky to have her. Her dad Charles, the bartender, is pretty awesome too! The amount of miscommunication, mistakes, and lack of compassion and follow-through was incredibly disappointing throughout almost the entire year of planning and of course, day-of. My daughter's wedding experience was wonderful! We were lucky enough to get the Atrium which truly is a magical venue. The staff was incredibly attentive and a special call out to Michael the catering manager who was just phenomenal. Everyone raved about the food and the service was seamless. The only issue that occurred was that the wedding from the night before did not break down but the the venue rallied and had multiple members breaking it down quickly so we could set up. The entire staff at Saint John's was a pleasure to work with and Linda--our coordinator was very helpful, sweet and patient! Being part of the yelp community for 10+ years I've always been excited to write reviews about businesses to share my experience so others can support them. The last thing I want to do is give a bad review. In this case I felt I had no other choice but to share the experience my family and I had. My sister has been working with this resort for about a month and has been fully transparent on her needs. About 3 weeks in Megan told us that we can't put a deposit or hold the place until 6 months prior to our event. My sister scheduled a meeting to discuss this further to come to a common ground but they last minute cancelled the meeting. They mentioned that although others we know were allowed to do this, this is a new policy and they cannot honor our request (not even to pay more) to lock this venue down. As someone who professionally implements new policies and procedures, the right way to do this is to allow the folks in your pipeline to proceed with your old policy and only transition your new clients to your new policy. Regardless, our family is very excited to celebrate this wedding elsewhere! read more

We will unfortunately not be leaving a kind review. Myself and my husband got married there in the fall of 2024. The venue itself was absolutely beautiful and with the help of my vendors they made it perfect. To our guests, nothing was wrong and no issues happened. The waitressing staff at the venue were the only staff we didn't have an issue with. However many issues arose. To start, I am so sad to say but we felt like we were a bother to about 99% of the staff. Myself, the groom, the grooms sister and florist, grooms parents, my parents, and everyone who was there to help me all felt like there was no one available to assist us, answer questions, or guide us in any way. Things that were promised were not followed thru. For example, the microphone stand that was stated they would have for us, no one provided or could get for us. We also had multiple guests not know where they were going even though your staff gave me attitude when I asked if we could have signage be more clear. When I arrived, not a single staff member could assist me with where I was supposed to go, even tho myself and the "coordinator" talked previously about us girls being able to get ready in the room above the chapel. The staff looked at me as if this was their first time having a wedding here and as if I was a problem to them. The room that they had put us in, we had multiple RANDOM people coming in while we were getting ready, which is completely uncalled for and unprofessional. Not to forget, my room was right next to the groomsmen so to my surprise they were all the first to see me in my wedding dress. Imagine if my first look would've been ruined because of the this poor planning on you and the venues part. When I saw the St. John's "coordinator" on multiple tours throughout the day, I realized we were going to have a problem. She couldn't even stop for a minute to help me, say hello, or ask if I needed anything. With the amount of money that this wedding costed my family, the grooms family, and my own money, we should have been welcomed with grace and open arms. This was completely opposite of what we felt. My sister in law, the florist, had one of the staff members roll their eyes at her and state "of course the florist is already here." I'm sorry but with the amount of funds and higher end event this was, my sister in law stated this was the worst venue experience she ever had. It was saddening to say the least. This was a lot of extra stress that I did not need. Any family member of the bride and groom should not have to feel this way at their family member wedding. The staff that introduced themselves to me to assist me throughout the day I NEVER saw them after that introduction. I couldn't even tell you any staff members name because I never saw them after their 1 introduction. Therefore I had negative help and I felt alone and without any assistance. This is shameful and uncalled for. I will be telling everyone that asks me about these occurrences. I also want to make note that the ceremony meeting spot was wrong and being used for Christmas decorations so my whole bridal party was lost and we were confused where to meet. So I'm confused why I couldn't have been notified of this prior to 10 minutes before the ceremony. The ladies in charge of the ceremony found us only 10 minutes before the ceremony and were unorganized and frankly not helpful either. My own mother was not treated nicely by them and when told she would have to carry her purse down the aisle, it would have just been courteous for staff to offer to hold onto her purse for the 30 minutes ceremony. This wasn't a lot to ask for. The ceremony also had not a single space between the chairs and the wall so my poor father had awkwardly maneuver around to get back to walk me down. In the future, if no one is going to be around to assist a bride this needs to be spoken about. I could've hired a wedding coordinator had I known that I would be on my own to deal with everything. It was as if this was the first wedding this venue has ever seen. I can't even imagine how everything would've went if there were to be another wedding there as well. The final straw was the next morning the housekeeping at the hotel barged into our room at 9am, then when we went to take things out to our car a housekeeper came and stole one of my dresses, I confronted her, got it back, and they said they fired her. Our hotel room was also wide open and unlocked for anyone else to come in and steal our belongings. But for this to be the final experience here, is just absolutely appalling to me. My only hope is that you take this information and make experiences better for other brides. I can't imagine how this venue has run weddings with all these issues. I am also shocked that the staff thought that they provided me with an excellent experience. I really did expect much more from such a well known venue and such a higher end price tag. read more

Came here for a work conference in the beginning of May. It's a very grand priority but signs helped lead us to where we needed to go. The banquet hall/conference area was glamorous with chandeliers and had enough room for multiple beverage and snack tables. The lunch in the atrium was absolutely delicious and accommodated to my gluten intolerance. The wait staff was prompt but not pushy. My ONLY complaint was the temperature of the venue was pretty chilly. Our event coordinator said they turned it up a few degrees but it didn't feel like that. It was almost like they opened all the windows instead. I highly encourage this venue for work related events but bring a jacket! read more

our wedding experience working with The Inn at St John's has been such a rollercoaster of high highs and low lows that I wasn't sure what a fair star rating would be. What factors into my review is that we paid a lot of money to have our wedding here and though we didn't expect them to lick the bottom of our shoes, I did expect to be treated as somewhat important or at least respectfully. So I decided to break down our experience. 1 Star: The customer service/management I struggle with this because I understand that they were under a lot of changes since we first made contact with them back in the fall of 2020. We tried our best to give grace but that could only extend to a certain point so I'll try to share every interaction we had. We toured the venue with Linda in September 2020 and we did not get our contract to sign until March of 2021. We were told we would have it by October 15th. We emailed her 4 different times about it and when she ignored the last email I tried to call but she didn't pick up. We didn't get an email until my dad physically went up there to ask what was going on and that day someone named Madison emailed me the contract. This happened again with payments. In September I received an email from Lindsay stating that we did not pay our third deposit in June and asked for us to give prompt attention to this matter. Now I am an extremely nice and understanding person, but after everyone dragging their feet to answer my emails and straight up ignoring our phone calls I became quite curt in my response to her demanding my "prompt attention". Especially because we already paid it! I also felt quite frustrated with having to deal with so many different people for our wedding when Linda told us that she was our go to person. On October 5th of 2021 we received an email from Jessica stating that there has been a redistribution of weddings and that she was now in charge of finalizing the details of my wedding. I emailed her back the next day on October 6th hoping to set up a date, and she emailed us on November 23rd. By then I was used to delayed emails so it did not bother me too much. We met with Jessica in December and the mix-ups began to happen. The things Linda promised us were no longer a thing with Jessica. They did not have black linens anymore, there was a different bar package, and Jessica was not going to be there on my wedding day to set up. At this point my parents and I were shocked into silence. We were told by Linda that she was there to take care of everything but because we didn't have it in writing it was all hearsay. 4 stars- Hotel The hotel staff were so nice. We were greeted by friendly staff who congratulated me. We were even texted to make sure everything was going well with our room! They offered my flower girl a cookie as a consolation token for the pools being shut down for maintenance. The suite was beautiful and fit all of us perfectly. The next night they transformed it into a honeymoon suite for my husband and I where they decorated the bed with rose petals and put chocolates in the middle. 5 stars- wedding night venue Despite everything the night of our wedding we were treated like what we should have always been. David was our personal server and he made us feel like a king and queen the whole night. Our drinks never ran empty and everything went smoothly (thanks to our hired coordinator). Everyone was served efficiently and David packed any extras away for us. He asked a lot of questions and constantly made sure we were well taken care of. They even offered to take stuff to our room when the night was wrapping up. 1 star- after glow We had pizza and bosco sticks as our 10pm late night snack and it was a total miss. The pizza was so rubbery and the bosco sticks came out cold. It was so bad that my husband ended up belly laughing at the display. Thank god everyone was mostly full from our delicious appetizers and entrees so the pizza mainly went unnoticed. 2 stars- announcements We were never told the pizza was served our that the cake was out for people to eat. They also closed the bar without letting anyone know. This is a two star instead of one star because the bartenders opened back up when my dad freaked out about it not being okay that a last call wasn't announced before they closed. Overall I think 3 stars is a fair rating. It means that this place is Okay and it was! My advice if you choose to work with this place for your wedding is to write everything down even outside of the contract you are given. Ask to record conversations that way you can hold people accountable for what has been said. It will save you a lot of stress in the long run. My wedding was beautiful but a good portion of it was because I had awesome vendors! You cannot beat the food here though, it is top notch. Good luck and congrats to all future bride and grooms! I would be giving this hotel a 5 star but they checked us into a handicap room on day one. Let's just say it wasn't the room we had preselected and paid for. We were able to have them change our room for the second night and they even moved our luggage for us. The grounds of this hotel are top notch and they have beautiful man made waterfalls on property. You also have to be impressed with the indoor pool which is more like what you would see at a 5 star spa. The giant American Flag in the parking lot is a nice touch. There were 3 weddings going on during our weekend stay and can can see why all the rooms were being occupied. Lastly, you are only 25 minutes from the airport. read more

So amazing!!! I don't even know where to start. We had our wedding here last week and everything from the planning, to the night before, to the day of was just absolutely perfect. The service was beyond what I imagined. The venue and accommodations were great. They are so willing to work with you in helping ensure you have your dream wedding! Highly highly recommend! Aside from just the wedding, the hotel front desk team is amazing, the ambiance when you walk in is just breathtaking, they have refreshing fruit and water, and the rooms are great. The presidential suite was literally an apartment and perfect for getting ready for the wedding. The team sends you a text seriously about 30 minutes after checking in to make sure everything is ok and you can communicate any needs via text which was so cool. The steakhouse and the wine grotto were amazing. Make sure you see Johnny for an espresso martini at the steakhouse. The wine grotto is great, guests really enjoyed going there when there was wedding downtime. My guests stayed from Thursday to Sunday and had zero complaints. Cant forget about the golf, my husband said that was the nicest and best course he's played on in metro Detroit. There was so much to do within the resort and lots in the area with downtown Plymouth being close by as well as Ann Arbor and downtown Detroit! We have nothing bad to say and want to go back for dinner all the time! Will definitely spend every anniversary here. Thank you to the amazing team!!! This is a beautiful place where the staff knows how to make you feel special. I've had the opportunity to attend a holiday event here three years in a row and each year the catered dinner always includes delicious and unique dishes. A small army of servers move unobtrusively among guests, keeping tables clear and serving coffee and dessert. The stone columns and archways, tile floors, and heavy wooden doors create an atmosphere of grandness that is at the same earthy, warm and cozy. As an overnight guest, you'll get text messages after check-in to make sure you are comfortable, which you will be because the rooms are great. This is a great place to hold a small event or a large event. From family gathering to giant wedding, this is the best place to have this type of event. By far the best 1st class service, with dining areas and large ball room areas. I've attending a wedding, luncheon, business seminar and even just a family nice dinner inside the 5Five diner. I love the Inn at Saint John's. When I was ballroom dancing, we would have events there and the food is excellent. I don't play golf, but I went there for relaxation during the winter time. My main objective was relaxation and I wanted to use their hot tub/pool. There was no notification that it was out of service so I was very disappointed. Seems like I should've received a discount. Have come for brunch three times recently. Twice for birthdays and once just because it was so good. For one birthday I made a reservation then called to see what time brunch ended. I was told 2:00. I asked if they had any vegetarian since I was bringing three vegetarians with me and that's why I wanted brunch. Problem was I was picking up one guest at the airport and couldn't make it by two. They immediately offered to hold brunch for us. When we arrived they served us with a smile not at all as if it where and imposition . They explained their policy is to offer anything they make anytime. The dining room was immaculate. A nice balance between old school steakhouse and modern sleek. Fabric clean, tables clean, floor clean and all woodwork perfect. No nicks or scratches. The staff was well trained. The menu was small but a great selection. Presentation was on par with fine dining. Top notch from start to finish. As good as any five star restaurant. Price point $$$ and worth very penny. read more
