We got to experience it during the Christmas holidays, which was nice for sight seeing. It opens at 9 am on weekdays, and the outside doors opened to the public about 5 minutes before. Many of the stores open soon after. The 3rd story consists of a variety of restaurants, all of which were closed that early in the day. Instead, quite a few coffee shops were open, including a lot of Costa's. The center of the mall consists of elevators and a set of escalators. Even at 9, there were quite a few people working and browsing.

West Quay is big, with over 80 stores and over 50 cafes, bars, and restaurants. There's even a movie theater and bowling alley. Best of all, it was conveniently located next to our hotel.

Shameful. How on Earth could M&S senior management allow this short term foolishness, likely just to save a few quid. We noted they were selling fish & chips with peas and a lemon wedge at £9. We decided to try but it soon became clear that was our mistake. They weren't that tasty. The food seemed air fryer cooked, dry, near tasteless and not a good eat really, so real fish & chip shops have no fear of this competition. This is food passable for old folks homes. We didn't have to wait long for the food but here again the server had no tartare sauce to offer (apparently a supply issue) but it was readily available in store just a mere few feet away. £18 for rubbish food. The tomato ketchup, vinegar pouches and salt were seemingly rationed. I asked for some more and some more was handed over, piecemeal. I gave up. Is it a lack of training? Who knows. Then I tried to open the sauce pouches and ended up asking a staff bloke to do it. He struggled but succeeded. I am really annoyed as this is not acceptable.

The location consists of multiple stories, with each section having a dedicated clearance section. All prices are clearly marked, and include taxes (which somewhat compensated for the prices being in pounds). My wife got a good deal for a blouse (5 quid), that she wore multiple times on our cruise. Going on a multi-day cruise with just carry-on luggage (allowing us to be nimble as we explore), means only light weight clothing that is easy to handwash/air dry. TK Maxx (just like its sibling Marshalls/TJMaxx in the States) is great place to pick up heavily discounted clothes that fit that bill. It's also fun to see what fashion and brands a foreign country is selling...in this case, it was similar to what we are able to find in the States (along with similar prices). It was a self checkout and we had no issues using our US bank issued card. Learning: TJK changed the name to TK Maxx to avoid confusion with a British retailed called T.J. Hughes.

Includes, JJB, Argos, Borders, Furnture Village, Tesco Home, Staples, Halfords, Boots, and Brantano. With McDonalds and TGI Fridays oppositem, and a Starbucks in Borders, and a Novotel, Ibis, and Etap hotels also there offering cheap stays. Tesco Home was a flagship new market idea for Tesco with the store concentrating only on homewares and is a wonderful idea, and often very packed out. Parking is plentiful and as its free, everyone uses it. Free for 2 hours with parking attendants there all the time its quite good! Also frequented by the youths with they're show-off cars of an evening, so not the place to bring a learner driver!

Glad to see 15 years later, this mall is still kicking, and they have really built up this area a lot more. They still have a nice mix of stores, although some of their kiosks are gone, like their Whittard's kiosk. The food court wasn't bad, although I did notice a couple places were empty. There is still wifi, although that's less of an issue now. And they still have the M&S, thankfully. If you're going on a cruise, and have some time to kill, I think this mall is a great stop, especially considering there are other things in the area too if you get bored with the mall. There is another mall in the area, but that one is a little more empty, whereas West Quay still seems to have a crowd.

Maybe we were all just escaping the rain that day. Westquay was very clean and they had a nice assortment of stores. My wife's favorite store was Marks & Spencer. This large department store had some good deals. My favorite shop was located on the second floor (I believe). Actually, it was more like a large kiosk. One girl was manning the place. It was called Continental Bakery, and the selection of baked goods was fantastic. I ordered a couple of Pastel De Nata which tasted excellent!! Very good price points also! Wish I had bought some other stuff while we were there. Anyways, visiting the Westquay Shopping Centre is a "Must do" when in Southampton. I noticed that there is also a Nando's Restaurant upstairs in the food area which I'll have to go to next time also.

It feels a bit dated the way the store is layed out, but then again, this probably keeps costs down as opposed to having booming music and flashy displays etc.. with endless streams of sales assistants asking 'are you alright mate'. Their excuse was that the clothes didn't sell very well and I would have to travel to Waterlooville to see if they carry plus sized clothing, which is about 40km away. It astounds me that a store that advertises that it sells plus sized clothing actually doesn't. And them saying the clothes didn't sell very well that's why the Eastleigh one doesn't carry them is just ridiculous .. considering the obesity problem in the UK and that at least 50% if not more ladies are at least a size 16 or higher. Sadly, the other plus sized clothing providers in the Southampton area have also closed. Their suggestion? Order my clothes online.

Don't know whether its the brand itself or just our store, but it feels like a cheap outlet store or a jumble sale shop. I like the Disney products when I find them, I have a large Nemo here, its well made and authentic to the film and so are many of the other products! Shame the shop is a let down!

You do have to pay to park in West Quay and it can be expensive so do check the charges as it's a pay on exit car park
