I find it a bit of a chore to work my way around the store to find anything but at times I have found a good bargain. The store is generally clean and tidy, just has a lot in it. There is a large range of gifts, especially now in the run up to christmas but I would say they are a bit pricey. This is made easier by the fact that they seem to have a sale every other week.

They had nail bars, a Turkish cafe, a Boswell's cafe, an eat all ya like Chinese/Japanese/Thai place charging £20 fixed price for food. It's also where the Starbucks is located that charged me 5p for tap water - the 5p was allegedly for the plastic cup when they were coming down with ceramic cups. They've driven my gold membership business from Starbucks since. I'd guess mine is at least £1,000 spend annually. There's plenty of chargeable parking here and we found one common theme driving around England - is not a parking friendly country and especially not a disabled parking friendly country. Local authorities starved of funds from central government crooks now fleece their communities at every turn and charging for parking on roads is just another income source. This is despite the fact that drivers already repeatedly pay for roads over and over through road tax, by paying for extortionate road fuel taxes and in general taxes are robbed here too. In fact Portsmouth centre had a surprising number of independent nail bars; most of which were staffed by Asian folk.

The Cascades is a meduim sized shopping arcade in Portsmouth town centre. This mainly hosts a Subway, amongst other small eateries. There is a car park to the rear of the Cascades, which meakes for perfect parking to reach it. This money is then refunded if you spend over £2 in the shopping centre. The shopping centre itself is very small so it isn't the sort of place you would go to for a day out. It contains a couple of High Street names such as Asda, Iceland and New Look. There is also a Superdrug, card shop, butchers and pet shop. This means you can buy most things there, although the selection isn't that appealing. In addition there is a cafe where you can rest after shopping or stop for breakfast before. As it is not a main shopping centre it is usually quite quiet so you shouldn't have any problems with queues.

The centre has recently been renovated and still retains that fresh and clean feeling. It is very spacious and as it is undercover you can visit no matter what the weather. There is a car park at the back of the centre which caters for a large number of vehicles. However as it is a pay and display car park, parking there for a day can be quite expensive. The centre contains a variety of stores such as Marks and Spencers, Primark, Next and Dorothy Perkins. There is also a couple of coffee shops if you need a rest during your shop. There is also an eating space upstairs where there is a wide choice of food to choose from. Limited seating is available downstairs for the men who don't want to follow their girlfriends around the stores.

Definately the best joke shop around!…read more U Need Us are suppliers of such items as wigs, makeup, tights, balloons, seasonal goods (xmas and halloween outfits namely), gag jokes (tar soap, itching powder, whoopee cushions) and costumes. It's a small shop for the number of items it sells, but it works really well and the staff are excellent and willing to help with nay requests!

Quite possibly the best place to come and get Hallowe'en decorations, or decorations in general…read more The store is horribly cramped, but everything is neatly organized into just two aisles and there is a heck of a lot of items for sale in such a tiny shop. They sell everything from costumes, masks, balloons, wigs and huge Hallowe'en props to latex body paint. I wanted to construct a ghost for an elaborate decoration one year and found out that they actually sold styrofoam mannequin heads for just £5! The shop also sells gags (hot chili mints, itching powder etc), as well as a decent variety of board games. The people who work there are quite friendly but are always inundated with crowds and there's never a proper queue, which can be annoying, but it's worth braving the crowds to get something unique here.
