It's a Tesco Metro store, which is basically a pretty large store (bigger than your standard convenience style Tesco express, but smaller than the regular supermarket/superstore) and located in a city centre. The selection in store was okay for a store of its' size, I disappointed with the Free From section and found the store to be a little frustrating in terms of cleanliness, the floor seemed a little dirty and like it hadn't been cleaned in a while, which was made worse by warehouse cages again blocking multiple places (I visited at a peak period in the afternoon where many people are just finishing work, the store was busy - an awful time to stock shelves or just forget and leave things there). It does open late, often until 10 pm and isn't restricted to the shopping hours of intu Derby (unlike the larger Sainsbury's supermarket nearby), so at night if you need a supermarket in the centre of Derby this is pretty much your only option. 2*

While it is big for a city centre/ mall location, it is dwarfed by their other stores. I do feel the store could be due to some renovation as it did feel a little old and even dirty at times especially with the old flooring, and they did also appear to be understaffed so it was hard to find a staff member when required to ask where certain items were, such as the free from section which was a shame. The Free From section was interesting, they did have some cool and unique items such as Brewdog Beer, but they lacked with pretty standard items such as a selection of bread. Obviously it is in a good location within intu Derby and the shopping centre, but surely it is due to a total renovation including improving the selection in multiple areas, although it can be useful within its location, acting like a large Sainsbury's Metro store it isn't a complete terrible lost cause. 2*

However, I only go in there for odd things so its not too much of an issue. Food is much cheaper than most places, however, like most shops, you really have to watch out for products that aren't 'loss leaders'. I've never really had a chance to test customer service in the shop as I've always been able to find items easy. However, with long queues at the kiosk I'm guessing it is quite poor. However, you don't really expect it in a place like Farmfoods.

This store is run by a bunch of arrogant Chinese folk that like to look down on everybody. They usually bitch about the last customer who just left the store. They also assume that I don't understand or speak Cantonese... like, whatever. Just because I choose not to speak it, does not mean I can't. A few members of my family shop here, but I give it a wide berth. The people are rude and they're expensive. I'm not paying a decent amount for out-of-date items! I'd rather drive out of town to get my Chinese groceries!

Their famous meal deals are also prevalent, as are the dairy and fresh food. Most of them M&S branded goods, but some well known high street brands are also starting to invade the shelves, which adds choice. The variety of pasta, bread, tinned goods, frozen food, confectionery, fresh bread/rolls etc. are equally impressive. Staff are friendly and helpful, and there is never too much of a queue. The price would prevent you doing an entire family shop here, but its a great place to come for a treat, where you know the quality of the food is high.

The staff in Farm street are lovely. They are all very polite, pleasant and chatty. It does get quite busy in there at times and as it is only small, there is no space to queue but the staff are very competent and soon get through the queue. The shelves are always well stocked and if you can't find what you want you can always ask. Of course there isn't much choice on offer but the selling point is like I said the convenience. They do have a good reduced section though and you can usually get reduced priced bread and salads as well as meats and fish. Sainsburys local do still have some of the offers on from the big stores so it is always worth a look if you have one near you.

The staff can't do enough to help you, and whilst the store is only small it has car parking, atm, lottery and pay point. I also noticed they have flowers, cards and gift card, always handy for last minute presents! Unlike most convenience stores in the area they tend to have pretty good avalability, and if its not in stock the staff will find out when its back, or if a another store has it. Always a pleasure to shop there, even if it gets a bit busy!
