This restaurant is an experience in itself! The decor is stunning and the people are so friendly! We found this place by mere chance, we were walking our dog one night and saw it but what really caught our attention was the delicious smells coming out of it! So we decided to have dinner there. We started with the mix of antipasti which was delicious, they come with two different sauces, one spicy and one cooling. Then I had the couscous by recommendation of the waitress , and my husband had a meat dish served with red lentils, steamed vegetables and a sauce that has to be one of the best sauces I have tried in a meat stew. We washed it all down with a nice south African wine and some sparkling water, which trust me you need! Some dishes are spicy and they clearly state it in the menu and they remind you when you order it, but I, being Mexican thought I could handle the heat, I mean we practically snack on hot sauce drenched chips and brined jalapeños, but let me tell you this kind of heat is different from what I am used to , it is persistent! But in a good way you can't get enough of it, the meat in the couscous just melts in your mouth, so tender and spicy. We had for dessert a lemon gelato that came served inside a real lemon a perfect end for a perfect meal! You will be sooo full you will barely be able to move! A truly wonderful Eriterean restaurant. The reception is unbeatable, the decor enchanting, and the food delicious. The prices are very reasonable. The service is prompt, personal and attentive. I recommend the couscous and the Eriterean wine made from honey, avoid thinking about its yellow appearance. When you enter you cannot help but notice the sheer elegance of the decor. The walls are filled with beautiful authentic art: pictures; photographs; wood carvings; and even video all showing Eriterean culture by way of dress, food, dance and life. You may dine either on a normal table or traditional style in a group of seats and eat without one, I assume on a tray. I began with mixed antipasti that included meat filled sambuza, felafel, and hot spicy rolls with 2 dips, one cooling and another more of a meat sauce. As soon as I had finished the house speciality, couscous arrived. It absolutely melted in my mouth with the vegetables steam cooked to perfection. I finished with chocolate cake that was fresh and sprinkled with fine flour and decorated with chocolate sauce and traditions aromatic coffee that required half a pack of sugar to balance the taste. We went there last week and we enjoyed the atmosphere. The food was good and the service was nice. We ate a mix of starters that was acceptable, and a Zighini that was good . What we did not enjoy at all was the Doho, a main course with one little chicken leg with bone, that needed to be eaten with utensils (african food needs just hands). I've been here a few times now and expect to go again. The only thing holding it back from five stars is that every time I have gotten mixed signals from the staff. Some of them didn't seem too pleased to wait on me. Couldn't say why. The decor is gorgeous, with some recognizably African music always playing in the background. For some reason I've been one of the only people in there every time. For vegetarians, I can recommend getting the falafel starter and the mixed vegetarian main, with extra injera bread (which is free). You'll leave very full and very, very happy. The injera doesn't seem to come out with a consistent thickness here which means the degree of fingeryness of your finger food experience might vary, since the bread could get almost instantly soaked and become part of the paste. I actually think I enjoyed it even more when this happened! While they do give you a spoon, I think even in this case you should hike your shoulders back and get to work with your hands instead. You won't regret it. The only things I think I could ask for are for the injeera to be a little more sour and the main dishes a little more spicy - but that's really quibbling. read more
