Love this place! We were landscaping our backyard, wanted to make it tropical and stopped to check this place out. Sago Reys is a family run business with a TON of plants to choose from. We were greeted on Saturday by Martin, one of their sons who spent an hour showing us a number of different plants and trees. He even pulled some out to show us how we could set them up in the yard. Super nice and super knowledgeable. We brought about 20 plants home. Then we went back this past Tuesday to get a few more, were greeted by the owner, Maria who helped hand select 4 Queen palms. Not only were these 4 feet taller than the ones we bought at Home Depot (before we knew about this place), but were $5 less per tree. Honestly wish I had another yard to landscape so I could give them more business, though we may go back for some house plants. Family run business with a son serving our country. The guys loaded my palms in my truck and expertly wrapped them up so they wouldn't get damaged and wind whipped on the return trip home. The best place for trees with great prices too! I have nothing else to say except, GO!!!!!

We bought two date palms from them in July 2019. We wanted them to plant those date palms thinking they would be the best for the job. Maria insisted she would just guide the contractor working in our front yard to plant them. The plants started to grow good after December last year but gradually started declining after the rains in spring this year. We called Maria to get guidance because we thought she would be the best since she claimed to be growing date palms for 40 years. It took them more than a month to finally take a look. Her son violently shook the trees and diagnosed "the soil is very loose and it needs to be compacted. The trees should not have been easy to shake this way after more than 6 months of planting" . He also recommended to flood the trees with water once a week. Maria even suggested me to buy the drip pipes to get the water deep down to the roots because she was very sure it was under watering and not overwatering. I told her many times that the trees started to decline only after the rains but they insisted us to flood the trees with water. We even paid extra to the contractor who planted the trees to compact the soil, who said it seemed to be swamped and soil would actually move away when tried to compact. We waited another 45 days after her Son's visit to see if they would improve but after they only got worse we contacted an arborist who specializes in palm trees. The first thing he did when he arrived here was to check moisture levels with the moisture meter. He said it was basically swamped down there( and that explained why his son was able to shake the trees easily). He also said the soil can't stay loose for 6 months after planting if we were watering the trees once a week because the soil settles with watering ( I know it's a no brainer but we trusted this maria and her son blindly). The arborist also said compacting the soil only compounded the problem. PLEASE BE CAREFUL WHEN AND IF YOU BUY THE TREES FROM THEM. THEY DO NOT KNOW ANYTHING. Just purchased 1/2 cord of oak, and couldn't have had a better experience. The wood was solid, heavy and dry, split to the perfect length and was a generous amount. I have been shopping with Sago Rey for 12 years. I built my first home in 2003 and landscaped my whole yard (front and back) in palms, cycads, and olives. I purchased many of my palms from outside of the area (San Diego and Los Angeles) before discovering Sago Rey. After meeting Maria and walking around the grounds I had a new favorite place to visit, and shop for palms and cycads. The thing about bringing palms from San Diego and Los Angeles to the valley, is they are not acclimated to our area, the heat is as big a factor as the cold. By buying here, the plants have been proven to tolerate both. Also, I could buy larger trees because I didn't have to haul them several hundred miles and over the Grapevine. I had 76 varieties of palms and around 25 different cycads on my property before I sold it. Around a third of my plant stock came from Sago Rey. 2 to 3 times a year when I would visit, they always loaded my truck and trailer, tied the leaves together, and sent me on my way as well packed as possible to make the trek down the 99. So, in 2012 with my new home, it was more of the same. Off to Sago Rey. It had been 2 years since I'd been there. I was sad to learn Sago Rey (Tom) had recently passed away. He was such a wealth of information, and just a great guy to chat with. Maria, his wife, was still running things. I'm so glad for her and her love of the business, and all things palm related. She is a joy to work with and I again find myself neck deep in palms and cycads thanks to her and all the people that work with her. Thank you! read more

Where to begin. I called this company to get a quote to have some palm tree removed from my yard. They came right out, took photos, then nothing happened. I had to call several times to actually get the price, which I agreed to. I then had repeatedly call to actually schedule the job. No one came out the day it was scheduled due to poor weather conditions, but they did not call me to talk to me about this, I had to do all the call (again several times). The workers were supposed to show the following morning, they did not, again no phone contact. They finally showed, when we were out and WENT TO MY MY NEIGHBORS HOUSE AND CUT DOWN HIS TREE. The workers were given the wrong address. Then they went to my house to remove my trees. However, they did not remove the stumps, which I had payed to have done. The workers told me they did not have the equipment to do that and were never told to do that. The guys doing the worker are apparently someone this job was contracted out to by Sago Rey. They were very nice, very understanding about the stumps and they have made arrangements to have the stumps removed at very little extra cost to me. My neighbor said he was nearly in tears when he realized that he had removed a tree at the wrong house. My neighbor, fortunately is a very nice and gracious man, and all has been made right for him. The people who run Sago Rey are incredibly disorganized, and seem to show little regard for the people they hire or their customers. I will never again contact them for anything. The man who did the work however, was very nice, quick, efficient, and genial. I will make sure I have his number saved and call him directly from now on. read more
