We were a hungry group of four girls and at 17ish dollars a head we were well catered for. Starters we went with the lovely owners suggestions and tried three starter between us, one potatoes dish one fried coriander (trust me you just have to try) and one fried sago dish all came with lovely dips and sauces and at $4 or $5 each an impressive serving. Main We shared 2 Thali's which is a kinda set plate with pickles, salad, spiced rice, dal and breads. every was very tasty Desert Even thou we where heading into the too full stage by now the deserts were interesting enough to tempt us, I had the Shrikhand which was sweet and full of flavour and interesting blend of cardamon and sweet sugar. a little defiantly goes a long way... All washed down with Mango Lassi which looked a vibrant colour. I will be back no doubt with more friends to tow to show off this little gem in Sandringham.

This "restaurant" has the typical miasma and funk anyone from outside of Auckland would expect from the dirty and infamous road. Wobbly, unclean tables and prison food served in divided tin plates. I have nothing against vegetarians or vegans and have a lot of respect with some of the delicious dishes they can conjure up, but the food here tastes of coloured water with rice and chick peas for substance. Curry with no garlic or onions? Untitled lumpy custard dish made me feel like I was in a very old, very poor school cafeteria, gagging on the religious peace and love and feel-good that should kill any appetite I have left. Maybe if they put some of the natural herbs they're smoking into the dishes we could laugh this off and paint each other's toenails in a log cabin in the woods and name all the stars this place will never get.

Honestly, Govinda's is the best shit ever. I love this place. You can get like a full on meal for $6 or something. It's almost too much food. Man, Hare Krishnas are the best shit ever. I'm really into Govinda's. I'd give it five stars but it's kind of dirty in there some of the time.

The little eatery sits on the corner of Sandringham road, among Indian Central with eating houses left right and centre. Is go as far to say this is the cultural capital of India in Auckland. It can be rather hard at time to choose what's good. Basically I've heard a lot about this place not even knowing the name of it so I went in on the basis of having read and saw an image of it somewhere. When I rolled in and sat down, it was close to 9pm, I assume it's nearly closing time. But the friendly staff assured me it's all good and handed me a menu. I browsed through itnot knowing what to order as these are all authentic vegetarian dishes that you really have to be Indian to know. In my slightly inebriated state, I went for something that's like a mixed combo called Undhiya Puri. What it actually consisted of is a vegetable dish (made w aromatic spices herbs, and nuts) some puffs called Puris, Chaas (Buttermilk), Papad and some salad. It came in a stainless steel plate, very traditional. Taste wise, it was an explosion of sweet, tangy, textures and half way thru me eating the owner rolled out and asked me how my meal was which I replies 'amazing!'. It was vibrant and fresh thinking to myself and every element served it's purpose there. Then in a jiffy the proud owner rolled out with a Dahl dish for me to try and followed by an entree dish which just tastes incredible called Pani Puri - it's wet in the centre and crunchy on the top. I told him next time I'm around - I'm bringing a group.

It might be the kind of chaotic way they appear to run this tiny restaurant - the tables appear to be constantly filled with dirty dishes, like you've just missed the last group to leave. I think a more polite reviewer would call the décor "rustic" or something, but to me it's just shabby. The food is really great - when I've been here I've been brought a number of small plates to sample, along with dahi puri, which is always amazing, wherever you get it. The first time I ever tried lassi was at Jai Jalaram Khaman as well - while I can't say I liked it, I appreciated that the owner really wanted to show it off, like he did many of his wares. It was clear that while he's not very house proud, he loves what he cooks and wants people to love them too.

I really enjoyed the salads/sides that came on each plate. It was nice to have some freshness with each bite. I really liked the Thai beef salad. We had been eating pretty heavy, so this was nice to have something with bright and light flavors. My Mom thought the duck had a mushy texture. The first time I dined at Lucky Buddha, I didn't quite know what to expect, but after learning that the owners are Korean, the head chef is Filipino and that they are serving Asian fusion cuisine (namely Japanese, Korean, Thai and Filipino), I was really excited. I have since dined at Lucky Buddha four times, and each time has been a very memorable foodie experience. The food is fresh and flavourful, and the cocktail list and service is excellent. Below, I list my favourite dishes and drinks at Lucky Buddha. For food, I recommend the following: * Sriracha Pork Steamed Buns filled with tender pulled pork, fresh herbs and a cracker spicy peanut sauce. This is my favourite entree on the menu as it has that melt in your mouth wow factor. The bao comes in a pair, so I recommend sharing it with another dining companion, so you can share a few other entrees! * Wakame Salad with Cured Salmon served with creamy avocado, crispy nori, foam and puffed rice. This dish incorporates two of my favourite foods - salmon and avocado, so I knew it would be a winner. The puffed rice and crispy nori gives the dish great texture. * Soba Noodle Salad with Avocado and Teriyaki Chicken - this is the perfect lunch dish! It is another great combination (soba noodles, avocado and teriyaki chicken), is extremely filing (carb + protein x2) and will keep you going for the rest of the afternoon. My favourite part of this dish is the fried crunchy soba noodles on top! * Bibimbap with Korean mixed rice, seasonal vegetables, soy beef and gochujang. Bibimbap is a classic Korean dish and also one of my favourite meals, so I was super excited to try Lucky Buddha's version. I tried this dish only a few weeks' ago, and it is now my new favourite! I loved the presentation, with the brightly coloured veg, flavoursome beef and semi-raw egg. The fun part of Bibimbap is that you get to mix all the ingredients together! Just one sad note - no kimchi. For drinks, I highly recommend trying one of their cocktails. Their cocktail list changes frequently, some of which are only on the menu according to the season. I have so far enjoyed the Dark Stormy Asian cocktail with Mount Gay XO rum, ginger, herb bitters and citrus (a highlight the first time I dined at Lucky Buddha) and the Heavens Surprise cocktail with Herradura Plata tequila, watermelon, mint and elderflower - I just HAD to order this cocktail as it incorporated my favourite food and my favourite spirit! It was refreshing and delicious. Lucky Buddha also has a small wine and sake list and a range of Asian beers on offer, including a beer of the same name. For a non-alcoholic option, try one of their iced teas or house made sodas. If the above is not enough to tempt you, then another reason why you should dine at Lucky Buddha is because of their excellent service. Each time I have visited, staff are friendly and efficient, water glasses are always topped up and you don't have to wait long for your food. Overall, I LOVE LOVE LOVE Lucky Buddha. Thinking about it now, it definitely makes my top five list in Auckland, for its Asian Fusion menu (featuring Japanese, Thai, Filipino and Korean classics), refreshing cocktails and consistently good service. I highly recommend dining at Lucky Buddha the next time you're out!
