Sarah took time to meet with us and get to know us before offering her suggestion of which team of doulas might match best. I felt so comfortable with Gianna and Sierra from our very first meeting, and really appreciated how they supported us with two people, opening up options for support during labor and delivery. They provided so many resources and information, and were available for any questions at all which meant so much to me, again, having so much unknown my first time. Gianna ended up being there to actually see me through the labor and delivery. I wasn't sure what to expect, but she came when I felt I really started to need extra support and I cannot IMAGINE having done it without her. She helped me through the hardest parts and helped me feel so supported and safe; she gave me what I needed at points when I didn't know I needed it. Her gentle and calm presence and, even at times laughing with her made such a difference in my laboring. It also was a huge help to my partner and allowed him to take care of things that needed to be while she supported me. She stayed until well after the birth, and even helped wash and clean the sheets and helped my daughter and I with our first breast meeting! When I had a lot of anxiety surrounding breast feeding issues after, Sierra answered so many questions for me that were helpful and at the postpartum visit, they answered so many questions I couldn't have anticipated. They were both an integral part of this miraculous journey and I am forever grateful. I highly recommend either of them if you want extra support and if I ever have another baby I'll be calling them again.

Meghan gave me awesome prenatal massages, gave my husband and I awesome private Birthing from Within class sessions to prepare us, and is just a great resource for both of us in all things related to my well-being and the birth of our child. She's not only a truly amazing Dula but she's also a professional message therapist and an essential oils specialist. She even used them at my birth to help me through the labor and delivery. I didn't tear at all! She provided amazing support through out the whole pregnancy. She gave us one on one classes so we were prepared at the delivery and had some idea of what to expect. I had a long labor of 50hrs she provided the support needed to make it through. This was my first birth and I didn't know what to expect. I'm very greatful she was there. She provided support and encouragement the whole time. Then after the birth she immediately helped me with getting my daughter to breast feed within 15min of being born which I feel has helped tremendously as breast feeding hasn't been a problem for us. Additionally she provided special herbs to help me after the delivery and she made me placenta pills to take for after the birth. Taking these has helped me balance out my hormones. I'd recommend Meghan to anyone who's having a birth either at home or in the hospital. My birth with in the hospital with the midwife and Meghan my Doula. Christie did such an excellent job caring for me and my family from the first time we came to her clinic through pregnancy and birth and well beyond the postpartum period. Not only did Christie bring a deep knowledge of traditional midwifery care, but also her expertise around nutrition and the natural holistic approach of her practice were what made such a big difference for me in this pregnancy. The prenatal visits were detailed, personal and every discomfort I experienced was met with a suggestion on how to provide relief rather than it being dismissed as another pregnancy symptom. Along the way, Christie made sure to provide options and education for her treatment so I could make the best decision for me and my family. I've also got a history of some anxiety, among other things. As the weeks ticked down closer to my due date, my worry and fear about the actual process of having a baby was ratcheting through the roof. I knew I didn't want to be 'alone' in the delivery room with an ob/gyn I'd never met before and my partner, who is wonderful and lovely but totally inexperienced in childbirth. I knew about doulas and I knew that they provided support for birthing moms, but I also had a stereotype in my mind of someone who would just be whispering woo-woo affirmations at me and telling me that science isn't real. I was also nervous beforehand that I'd be throwing money at something that wasn't really going to help me, my partner, or my baby. I'm sure that stereotype doula exists somewhere (sorry!) but Brea isn't it. And I didn't waste a single cent. Brea's rates include multiple prenatal visits as well as a postpartum visit, plus the entire on-call time and delivery. For all the time that you get with her, it is well worth her quoted rates. I can't afford to pay her double or triple what I did, but I would. Seriously. Brea has a ton of information and skills at her disposal. --She's certified as a doula and she's very professional and direct in how she delivers information about prenatal care, mental/emotional preparation, physical exercises, medical terminology, and the birth experience itself. --She'll walk you through the pros and cons of pretty much every decision about labor & delivery that you could possibly have to make, but ultimately, the decision for how to proceed is yours. --She is educated in Spinning Babies techniques and rebozo work. --She uses everything from guided meditations to aromatherapy to massage to TENS to get you relaxed (whatever that looks like for you). --She has a contact in town for pretty much everything you could want as a pre- or post-natal person (prenatal massage therapist, chiropractors, acupuncture, baby-wearing guru, women's health physical therapist, postpartum depression group support, mental health professionals, --etc.) --She's very responsive via email, phone call, and text even when she's not officially 'on call' for your birth. --She can read the room and tailor her knowledge to fit your needs. If your partner (like mine) is both very quiet and very unsure about what to do with their laboring wife, she will show and tell them how to support the laboring partner and then hold space for them to do so. Most importantly, once you have had a conversation with her about how you envision your birth and the goals you've set, she will support you wholeheartedly in achieving that. She seems to have a positive relationship with several of the medical professionals that she's worked with at Salem Health Hospital and while I was there, I felt like she was working seamlessly with them and with my partner to support me. My brain went to a dark, dark place during the later stages of labor. Brea was there for the whole time helping me refocus and helping my partner help me cope. Because I had an advocate with me in the room, I was able to stick to my original birth plan and ended up with a pretty short labor for a first-timer and a very health, happy baby afterwards. Hire her. You won't regret it.

Our first went okay but wasn't enjoyable by any stretch and fell short in many ways. Specifically knowing and fully understanding all options and their implications. This time I just really wanted someone knowledgeable and experienced who was completely our advocate. Murial came highly recommended by another trusted healthcare provider. Murial has been amazing. She listened and taught us how to be better at getting the care we wanted. My husband felt totally supported and relieved of the burden of going it alone as my only support. That was HUGE! She was available every step of the way - and thankfully, due to an unexpected change of doctors - was our security and constant in a whirlwind of change right before the birth of our son. She is a birth/sibling/post-partum doula, and she was a gift to us in all those capacities. Our primary arrangement with her was as a sibling doula for our 3yo son during the birth of our second child. She and our son already had a relationship before the birth because she nannied very part time for us for a while (before she made the switch to doula work), and our arrangement with her was for her to come to the house once my labor had started, and then she and our son could go "have a little adventure" while the baby was being born. Murial is, in my opinion, a priceless combination of calm and bright energy. Her presence is soothing - for a few hours before our son woke up, she was able to act as a birth doula for me, and I still think about her gentle foot...holding?? (I mean, wtf was she doing?! I don't know, but it was amazing.). But she also has this bright energy that both kids and adults are super attracted to - creative, fun, silly, respectful, empathetic, intuitive - all the things I wanted in the person who was going to be with my son during such a pivotal and vulnerable moment in his life (the birth of a sibling). He had a fun time on his adventure with Murial, and then she stayed for a few hours after they returned - she made sure I was fed and my needs were met, made me a placenta smoothie and prepped and froze more placenta, and continued to help with our son. In the months after the baby was born, we continued to have Murial come a few times a week in the capacity of post-partum doula. Her help and presence were critical to my mental and emotional health at that time - the baby was colicky and a poor sleeper and finicky nurser, our son was regressing in many areas, and my husband's back went out(!) and then he went back to work. But when Murial was in our house, everything seemed to be okay. One other nice thing about Murial is that she is a certified counselor. So she is basically a professional listener/empathizer/guidance giver. :)
