Our other dog had to have a mass removed from his leg and the first place we went said they would have to completely sedate him. Not Dr. Davis! They were able to remove it easily. It turned out to be cancerous, so we got X-rays and ultrasounds scheduled right away, just in case. Their ultrasound technician only comes on Thursdays, so you may have to wait a week to see them. Their pricing is reasonable and Dr. Davis always makes sure to speak with you at every visit. The staff is friendly and knowledgeable and I wish we lived here full time so we could always go to him!

They then thank heavens directed us to this vet. They were lifesavers! They were open on Sundays (BONUS!) and told us to come at our earliest convenience. Luckily we discovered Agnes only had an infection and they gave us the pills and we were on our way. Dr. Turetsky was so sweet and friendly and took care of us like we were his regular clients. Our other dog needed a growth removed and they said he would have to be completely sedated. We went to another vet who was able to remove it without having to put him under. Their offices and equipment are old and just don't seem to be up to par. I've been to them in the past for routine visits, but I probably won't go back again.

Instead of being met with compassion, empathy, and professionalism, they left feeling dismissed, upset, and deeply hurt by the way the staff handled the situation. No family should have to experience the loss of a pet while also feeling unsupported by the very people who are supposed to provide comfort and care. The lack of sensitivity and professionalism during such a heartbreaking moment only added to their grief.I understand that veterinary medicine can be stressful and emotionally demanding, but kindness and compassion should never be overlooked. Pets are family, and their owners deserve to be treated with respect during one of the worst days of their lives. I contacted Dr. Alward about possibly visiting us while we were out visiting family on Long Island…read more-- sadly, to euthanize our dog, Layla, who has terminal bone cancer and had experienced an especially rough night. She immediately calmed me down BY TEXT (crappy reception out here on the island), talking me calmly through the options (such as amputation). We ended up going to the city to my favorite animal hospital for a surgery consult, got stronger pain meds from the hospital, and now that Layla is comfortable again, we are taking a few days to really consider what the right thing for my dog will be. Dr. Alward continues to support and advise me (I'm peppering her with questions about immunotherapy, just in case there's a trial out there). These are the kinds of vets -- true dog-people as well as people-people -- that we need more of. Thank you Dr. Alward. Your immediate availability, quick thinking, generosity of time and spirit, and obvious empathy were decisive in turning a dark, panic-induced "final day" in my mind, into a week of calm consideration -- seeing a surgeon & oncologist, emailing with immunotherapists, and getting to see my dog, who is now on adjusted pain meds, enjoy another romp on the beach, just this morning, which I literally didn't think I would ever see again. Crash usually gets a puppy cut and I have to say during my 11 years of having him groomed there aren't many groomers that can perform and deliver to my exacting standards but the groomer at Harbor Pets gave him the perfect cut! They also carry quite a good variety of different holistic and organic pet foods. Considering it's the only pet store in town you'd expect outrageous prices but they are quite competitive and even carry the brand of food that my dog eats cheaper than at Petco in the city.

Currently I live in the South, and plan to visit family on LI for the holiday weekend. I was so happy to learn that Wags and Peter are still around! Wags is out in the middle of LI in a country-like atmosphere (Ive been there out after a snowstorm and glad I had a Jeep). I see it as the Holiday Inn for dogs--there are times when they have stayed at an ultra luxury pet resort as well, and Bud, my 90lb mush, has separation anxiety, whether he's at the Kimpton or the Red Roof Inn of dog boarding places. The difference I think is that some of the ultra expensive places may spend 10 minutes saying hi to your dog in a windowless but well-lit room and if you pay extra will walk yr dog on a leash for 5 minutes. I could see if you have a very young puppy this would be great short term but if its a very young puppy be a good Millenial parent and take responsibility. DONT dump your fur baby with strangers at such a young age, and later wonder why your fur child has socialization problems with you, jeez... But I digress--I worry about the lack of ventilation at some (not all) of those more expensive places with windowless rooms. Wags has an indoor/outdoor run area for each dog, and the shelter area is heated when its cold. They also have doggie daycare, I believe. I bring my dogs' durable pet bed and/or blankie, some toys that they'll probably rip into shreds anyway, and their food supply. I think some of the weird reviews on here reveal more about the dogs owners, and I know Wags boards dogs of all sizes and shapes lol. Give your dog some fresh country air, city people, even if its at a boarding kennel. Its good for your dog.

I had an extremely concerning experience at WAVE this past weekend after bringing my dog in for an…read moreinjured paw. First, they strongly pushed a $200+ opioid pain injection, despite the fact that my dog was not exhibiting signs of significant pain. I repeatedly said I did not want him given an opioid unnecessarily and had to advocate extremely hard for that decision. I was even told that they may not treat or clean his paw unless I agreed to the injection. I ultimately refused it, and he was completely fine and showed no signs of being in pain during the procedure. I was also told that he needed a $237 antibiotic injection, and I was not given a meaningful choice about declining it. I subsequently brought him to his regular veterinarian, who examined his paw and told me that an antibiotic was not necessary at all. I was also told that even if an antibiotic had been warranted, there were inexpensive oral options available for approximately $15. Another extremely troubling part of this experience was the billing. The estimate presented to me when I authorized treatment was approximately $600. When it came time to pay, my bill was approximately $800. When I questioned the additional $200, I could not get a satisfactory explanation. Even more concerning, they then pulled up what they claimed was my "signed estimate," which showed approximately $800, but that is not the estimate or amount that I reviewed and signed. I specifically asked for the doctor to call me so that I could discuss these concerns with her directly and give her an opportunity to explain what happened. She never called. This experience left me seriously questioning whether these expensive injections were being recommended solely because they were medically necessary or whether financial considerations were influencing the recommendations. Based on my experience, I would not trust this hospital to make treatment recommendations for my dog again.
