Arriving, there's already a 40th birthday group rocking. We sat outside of a courtyard style setting. We decided to share three meze plates and a main, the waitress assured us this was enough for two. The grilled sumac prawns were sufficiently tasty without the aioli. The hummus and crispy lamb tasted great with the toasty Turkish bread - the grilled pine nuts give it a delightful earthy burst of flavour. The zucchini fritters sitting on tatziki was very fine with a unique subtle flavour. The 12hr braised short rib was very soft and well marbled. Grilled with rich mulberry glaze and crisp shallots, it has a sweet and crispness that offsets its tenderness. We had opted not to try their wine list this time. A family of ducks trotted past us with the elder couple adjacent laughing and took photos. I'm told these guys (the ducks) are local and a common occurrence. For dessert we had a unique Turkish coffee creme brûlée and a handmade baklava that was not as sweet as others, these are next to ice cream with pistachio dust - always a favourite. Around us the restaurant was bustling as more patrons arrived so service became inattentive but remained courteous. We noted that the service staff looked like they were all from a bond film. One dropped the eftpos machine requiring me to explore the area which had many restaurants in Vegas style laneways suggestive of a period Italian village of sorts. The place is very unique for the area and, without more experience with Turkish food, I imagine the flavours are genuine and fresh. read more
