Saffron - A Taste Of The Exotic If we were to judge a book by its cover we would never stop here but we went based on reviews. Happy we did! Very understated! We have been a week in Port Elgin, trying all the restaurants and this one was clearly the best by far! After a day of navigating the challenging wet weather, we enjoyed a surprisingly wonderful time with amazingly diverse fusion cuisine; 3 main dishes between the 2 of us: Malaysian beef, eggplant, and potato curry $26 West African Peanut Stew $16 on the menu. Thai Green Coconut Curry $15 on the menu. We also ordered hand made naan! The meals were outstanding and extremely good value. Last but not least we had to try one of 2 dessert options despite how over full we felt...the beavertail-like pastry with homemade blueberry topping with fresh cream. Was the yummiest. After a sunny Saturday afternoon spent at the beach, my mother did a brief search for an A-tier restaurant that we could grab a quick dinner at. Saffron immediately came up as a 5 star establishment highly recommended by other food bloggers. We found out quickly that it is essential to call ahead for a reservation, as Saffron serves many in takeout and not as many in house. To our luck, we were able to make an immediate reservation. Jen, the owner, was extremely friendly and had lots of great energy as she served us. The appetizer special we ordered was a stuffed naan, filled with shredded spiced chicken, lentils, dates, and caramelized onions. It was served with a garlic sauce that was just as incredible as the stuffed naan itself! For dinner I ordered the Shahi Paneer (they make their own paneer in house!) The paneer was delicious and served with some amazing fresh naan. My mother got the brisket special. I tried a bite and it was one of the most flavourful dishes I have tried! My father tried the Cuban pulled pork wrap which was good as well. We dined on their shaded back patio, which was the most calm and serene place for a satisfying meal. read more

Headed through Port Elgin from a day in Tobermory and was researching something vegetarian friendly and came across Saffron. Sure glad I called in our order as it was ready in the amount of time it took for us to roll in, which was about 30mins. Ordered one Butter Chicken and one Shahi paneer. Paneer itself seemed in house made and the naan as well, the tomato base sauce was scrumptious. Ample amount of food and off the charts in flavour! This was a delightful and filling meal that we enjoyed beachside as a takeaway. Very pleased and would recommend to anyone looking for something other than pub or fast food. Happy to have found it! They offer something for the meat eater to the vegetarian to the vegan. read more

This place is consistently outstanding. An eclectic menu usually means everything is "ok" but every dish is spectacular. High quality ingredients and freshly made to order - you can taste the effort. And their Sunday Breakfast?! To die for. It was such a pain to try and get my meat and potatoes husband to try something else but once he did...there is a request for Saffron breakfast at least twice a month. Our go to is the Bollywood Benedict and the Perogies but I will often try and the special and I'm never disappointed. Plus, the generous portion sizes will often let you enjoy your meal twice. The staff are just as amazing as the food. Always polite and excited to tell you about what's cooking. They love what they do and it shows. If you are looking for something different and most definitely delicious, give this place a try. I promise you won't be disappointed! read more

I went to Saffron just the other day while visiting our cottage in Port Elgin. It doesn't stand out too much when driving by and you wouldn't imagine that an amazing dining experience is awaiting you after the entrance. We sat on the back patio.. nicely shaded for a hot summer day and lots of beautiful greenery. The waitress was efficient, polite and very accommodating. I ordered the Indian Butter Shahi Paneer ($13).. I have to say it was one of the most delicious meals i'v had in a long time (including some awesome home-cooked meals) The serving size was perfect! not to mention the price can't be beat for such great quality!! On the way out the chef had asked me how the dinner was and informed me she had just made the cheese for the dish the night before. Needless to say I will be going back next time I am in the area and recomending it to everyone i can! I may even make a trip just to dine there again! 5 Stars read more

We cottage up here summer weekends and always look forward to Saffron food. We often take out and enjoy Saffron delicious dishes back at our place. We live in Toronto and have access to lots of great Asian food and this is our favourite- right here in Port. read more

Looked on trip advisor and noted this was #1 restaurant for Port Elgin so decided to give it a go. We had Indian butter chicken,pad Thai, Mexican beef wrap and a west African peanut stew. All came with more than enough for 2 feedings each. Food was fresh, amazing flavors highly compliment the chef. I ordered the chai tea that is made on the premises, which was the best I had ever had. The staff was friendly and accommodating to change anything in the menu to gluten free option. We took the other half of our meal to be eaten the next days. Highly recommend if you like international fresh cuisine. A note that liquor is not served at this establishment but take out is available. read more

Absolutely incredible. We were shopping in Port Elgin and realized it was supper time, so we googled restaurants and Saffron had 5 star reviews so we decided to try it. We originally assumed it was an Indian restaurant but we then found out from one of the fantastic owners that it is actually food from all over the world. All the food we ordered was absolutely delectable. We were absolutely astonished with the quality of food and fantastic service. Everyone that works there is upbeat, happy and hyper. I couldn't give this place a high enough rating if I tried. Absolutely everything is homemade in house and utterly delicious. Every single dish they have can be made Gluten-Free too!! (i have celiac disease). Our three year old even loved her food!! read more

We've been here a few times while visiting our son who lives in PE and it has become a favorite! First times were for breakfast on Sun. mornings and I love the Greek pancakes or the Banana Lime French toast - hubby tried the "Eggs Bollywood, and found it delicious. A varied eclectic menu provides Port Elgin with a gem of a place to eat! Service is great and if weather permits the patio outback is also a pleasant place to eat. Will be back again! read more
