I don't make it out to this area very much since I live in the city. Saffron, however, has given me a great reason to make the trek out to the county. The food is amazing, the staff is friendly, and the decor is tasteful. I had murgh makhani. The chicken was tender and very juicy and the sauce was creamy with just the right amount of heat. I ordered mine at a 2 out of 5. The waiter explained that they use a pretty standardized method of measuring spice for each dish. His descriptions were accurate and my food was perfectly spiced. The naan was fresh and tasty. The portions here are larger than I've seen at most Indian restaurants. I think this (combined with excellent quality) might account for the slightly higher price. I had about a third of my dish left, and the staff was nice enough to add extra rice when they packed it up to-go. Saffron might have made it into my top Indian spot for St. Louis. I've only eaten here once, so I'll have to try another dish here before I make it official. read more

This place has some really good indian food. I've tried a couple of the places in St. Louis and Saffron has to be the best that I've been to. The lunch buffett has multiple curry dishes. They always have a chicken tikka maasala but have a goat dish and another meat curry dish too. They have the tandoori chicken which is really good because they put it ontop of a bed of vegetables. Oh. They don't only serve white rice but another type of rice. Naan is brought to your table fresh instead of sitting at the buffet. The mango lasi is delicious and the best part of the lunch buffet. After everything, it's not even $12. read more

Let me preface everything by saying that I prefer to order off the menu. Indian buffets are decent the first time around, and the whole time I'm calculating if ate the $10 I am paying. Maybe it's just the Korean side in me. The one thing that I like about the joint is that it has a decent selection. Yes, they do have the Tandori Chicken Jerky-bone in. Yes, they do have Chicken Curry. But they have a nice selection of other vegetarian options. Again, for an Indian buffet, it was a decent place to dine. Also, a great variety of sauces and chutneys that would liven your already overpacked dish that has sauces slowly running to the edge of your plate. You know what I mean... A couple of things that were not as good as other places. First, I wish their naan was self service. I feel like after everyone at our table had grabbed a piece, we were flagging down the nearest waiter for more. And by the third time, one of our waiters gave me the most incredulous look; it was the "seriously?" look. They had a nice refreshing tapioca looking dessert which looked suspect at first, but after the urging of a friend, I dipped my spoon, and, well let's just say I went back for fourths. Good stuff indeed. read more

Very good Indian food. I had dinner here. They do serve dinner. One review said that they don't serve dinner but that is all I have ever had here. I have never done the lunch buffet. Great service and a very clean place. Always good. read more

I'm going to upgrade my review based on some truly delicious Lamb Vindaloo I recently had. The gentleman who recommended the place to me originally has stopped ordering from the buffet, claiming the menu was better. Now, don't get me wrong, Saffron was fine the first time, but it was legitimately good this time. Their Lamb was tangy, very spicy (and this at only 3/5 heat) and a plentiful serving - plenty of tender, medium rare lamb, good salty potatoes, and lots of gravy - I can eat about a bushel of rice with the sauce if given the chance. And their naan had improved - not as soggy as last time, with good flavor. All in all, a better experience. And prices are still quite reasonable, even on a weekend, for very large helpings. Worth checking out - but if you don't see what you want on the buffet (or, maybe, even if you do) consider choosing from the menu. read more

This restaurant is a fantastic. Our little family of four has been going here for a few years since we are trying to get our boys to experience new things. The food and service are exceptional. There is one waiter in particular who is extremely polite and professional in his manner and always provides impeccable service. The saag, samosas, lamb korma, biryani, and tikki masala are favorites among our bunch. I highly recommend this place in the strip center off Manchester and Barrett station. Looking forward to the leftovers tomorrow. read more

I've been to this restaurant too many times to count. I'd be vegetarian if I could eat Indian food every day. The onion bajii and the vegetable samosa appetizers are my favorites, but the assorted pakoras are good for a group. You can't go wrong with the Tikka Masala, or the Palak, which is good with chickpeas (chana) or paneer cheese. The waitstaff is attentive and knowledgeable. They offer dishes spiced on a 1-5 scale, and they can get very hot! Their lunch buffet is much better than Rasoi, and they have more options. Leave some room for kheer (rice pudding dessert). read more

This place is delicious! Every time I have eaten there, I have had a good experience. The staff is very knowledgeable and is very helpful at pointing out menu items that are good. The staff is very friendly from the minute you walk in the door. We went with a big group of people (about 10 of us) and they were very accommodating. We tried several chicken and vegetable dishes, garlic and butter naan, and samosas. No one had any complaints about the food. Everything was delicious. read more

Wonderful food with amazing flavors. The Channa Palak was delightful and we loved the Baingan Bhartha! Best Naan bread ever! read more

Saffron - Indian Near Me - Saint Louis, Missouri

My wife and I have been frequenting this restaurant for at least 9 years. We such to the same free dishes totally when we come here but thoroughly enjoy them enough to always regret not going here when as go to other Indian restaurants. I highly recommend the chicken Tikka and butter chicken as well at the kheer. We are also partial to the lamb Rogan Josh. Great service and super helpful and friendly! read more

We were shopping in the area and needed to find somewhere to eat. Stopped at Saffron because of the good reviews and they didn't disappoint. The garlic cheese nan was amazing and I really liked that when they gave us an option for the spice level of our food that they didn't hold back when we said a level 3. 3 was pretty darn hot, can't image what a 5 would be. It was perfect though with the rice and nan balancing it out. The vegetable pakora and meat samosas were just okay- that's why I'm giving it a 4 and not 5 stars. read more

Variety of great dishes if you are in the mood for something ethnic!!! Prices are very reasonable for the amount of food they serve... Waiters are very courteous and not scared to run the extra mile ;) I'm stoked I found this place to eat, two thumbs up, definitely coming back here again!!! read more

I am searching for my favorite Indian lunch buffet in St. Louis. My friends rave about this place and I must say it's pretty good. They have many varieties that will make non-vegetarians and vegetarians both happy. You'll find the usual tandoori chicken and different types of curry. However, the most important thing you need to know is the naan! Even though Saffron serve regular naan. I love how they serve you a basket of hot and fresh naan for your table. That means no more speed walking with a stranger for the last cold naan at the buffet line. You just have to arm wrestle for the last naan with your table-mates.... or you can ask the server for another basket. However, I'm usually too full from eating everything else so I don't ask for another basket because I feel too bad for wasting. In conclusion, Saffron met my lunch expectations and I will be coming here again! YAY! read more

Hallelujah!! I have found my new West County go-to for spicy and interesting cuisine. LOVE is not a strong enough word to describe how I feel about this adorable little Indian food establishment. I am their new disciple so listen to me preach the gospel of Saffron. Chili paneer! Lamb Vindaloo! Keema Naan! All amazingly delicious and SO flavorful. Tell your taste buds to get prepare because eating here is like walking through the gates of heaven. I came here late on a Thursday night for dinner. It was really difficult to choose what to order because there were so many options for appetizers and entrees. The different breads & dessert descriptions were also enticing. Everything I did order came out fresh and delicious. The icing on the cake for me though was the service. The gentlemen who waited on us spent a lot of time explaining their heat/spicy scale so we wouldn't get in over our heads. I ordered my vindaloo at a level 2 on a scale from 1-5 based on their recommendations. Just right! My husband completely ignored their recommendations and ordered his vindaloo at a 4!! Not long after the food came I gave him that "I told you so look" as he quickly downed a 16oz glass of water while his face reddened from the heat. The waiter was such a sweetheart that he wrapped up the remaining portion of our entrees, added some extra rice and sent us on our way with a little rice pudding. He also included a to-go fork & napkin set in case my husband wanted to try to finish the vindaloo on the way home. LOL Ill be back, and it will probably be tomorrow for lunch! read more

Great, cheap lunch buffet. Options were pretty limited: 2 chicken stew dishes (curry and tandoori), a few veggies, and 1 soup. Three pieces of excellent naan brought to each person, which is plenty o' naan for sopping the plate (naan-stop sopping!). The dishes were delish, and for the price you can't beat it. read more

So tasty! Everything I have had from here is amazing. Portion sizes are generous making it awesome to order multiple things and share amongst family and friends. read more

Came here with a co-worker to celebrate my bday...what better way to celebrate than stuffing your face with copius amounts of Indian food?? We had the lunch buffet and it was really good. I agree with mike l...STL has alot of great Indian choices so this is just another one to add to the list. Oh and the buffet was about 75% vegetarian, which is not atypical for Indian food. I also like how they bring baskets of fresh naan out, rather than serving it on the buffet like some places. read more

One of my favorite Indian lunch buffets in town, right behind India Palace. The lunch buffet has limited choices: usually the only protein is chicken and there will be a couple of vegeterian entrees. However, everything I've had in my more than a couple of dozen visits here had been fantastic. The food is well spiced (although not spicy); the service at lunch has always been courteous and prompt. They keep your water glasses full and ask whether you need naan refills almost right when you run out of them (they bring naans onto your table). I have never had a bad experience dealing with the servers or the food at Saffron, and I'm thankful it's so close to work that I can visit on a bi-weekly basis. read more

Whenever I first visit an Indian restaurant I've never gone to, I always start with the samosas because that's the one thing I ALWAYS get. if you have bad samosas, even if everything else is great, I won't be coming back. They have great samosas needless to say. Considering their less than ideal location in a strip mall, I wasn't expecting much as far as quality goes, and honestly probably would have never stopped here were it not for Yelp. Never judge a book by it's cover I guess, great food and they even have Goat and Lamb options. Whether you are someone who eats Indian food a lot, or a noob you can find something you'd like here, and if you aren't sure the waiters are very knowledgable about the menu. read more

Amazing food and service! Had the chicken tikka masala, samosas and the assorted bread basket ... everything was delicious! The restaurant is very clean and inviting, and the service was outstanding. I would highly recommend! read more

Previously rated 5 star but my last trip there the food was disappointing when compared to previous visits. More like a typical US/Indian buffet than the stand out food they used to have. The lack of a goat curry on the buffet, which they always had in the past, will probably mean I don't go back. read more

I'm not an expert in Indian cuisine but I can genuinely say that I always enjoy my food at Saffron and feel the service is spectacular. While I have tried several dishes, Lamb Palak is my favorite with lots of flavor even though they adjust the spice to light for me. My husbands favorite is Shrimp Malabar and their Naan is fresh and delicious. They have on occasion surprised my daughter with a Mango Smoothie and I feel they cater to families well. You should try it. read more

Best Indian food in town. Awesome buffet. Service is great. This is our go to place. Great vegetarian options too.

Buffet, buffet, buffet! Many of the Indian food places in West County aren't doing buffets anymore, or are only doing them occasionally, or on certain days of the week. Saffron still has a buffet every day and has no plans to change, according to staff we spoke with. So if you want to try a little of everything as opposed to order one or two items from the menu, visit Saffron. It's also super reasonably priced. Two of us had the buffet (January 2020) and it was only around $26! The service is friendly and attentive. The restaurant is clean and cozy. Bonus that there are no distracting noisy TV screens. They make an effort to have a pleasant atmosphere with a flair of India. I will say I didn't like every single dish but I loved many others. The buffet is Mon-Fri 11:30-2:30 and Sat-Sun 11:30-3:00, as of January 2020. read more

A good place for a filling meal and the opportunity to try a bit of everything and find out what kinds of Indian food you like. It was better than I expected for Indian food in the US; I thought everything was good (there was nothing I would say was amazing, but that is generally the way with an all you can eat buffet read more

Duhhhh-lishhhh-esssss. My best friend uses the word delicious sarcastically in any favorable situation of life, regardless that food is nowhere involved in the topic. Less creative?, I will use the word in the literal sense. Saffron rivals India Palace as my favorite Indian restaurant in the Greater St Louis area. Have to choose between the two? I would not be able to pick, but my friend, better judges and me, chose India palace. Unfortunately for India palace, they do not write reviews on Yelp. Here is mine: Aloo mattar and malai kofta were the dishes (potato and cheese dishes, respectively). We ordered two sides of naan and they give a complimentary side of rice with the meals. It was too much for us both to eat and the left overs tasted as good if not better as my midnight snack! The atmosphere on the inside was nice, but my friend and I both were a little confused. The tables did not fit in with the decor? or something intangible to our senses did not fit. People in the county have a treat in Saffron. Bon Appetit. read more

I dined here with two friends for the first time yesterday, and I was not disappointed. Even though it was lunch buffet hours, they had no problem allowing us to order from the dinner menu. We had Vegetable Samosas (this comes with a trio of dips that were all delicious), Chicken Makhani, and Vegetable Korma with some garlic cheese naan (omg!). Everything was extremely flavorful and had the perfect spice level (we ordered 3/5). We all ate a ton and still had quite a bit of food to take home from that! Our server, Akram, was a pure joy and was so accommodating during our lunch. We will definitely be putting this in our regular rotation. Two thumbs up! read more

I went for the lunch buffet. It was pretty solid. I got to try a little bit of everything and that was nice to explore within a cuisine I am unfamiliar. Overall a good experience. Nice ambience and wait staff. The Naan bread was warm and unreal!!! I wish there were a few spicy dishes. read more

If I have to sum up my experience, I would say this is a very clean, safe place to try some of the most exciting dishes in the world (Indian dishes). Yes, it was spotless, and the waitstaff appeared to be attentive, the clientele was West County and the chicken dishes were prepared with cubed, skinless, white meat ( the kind that is hard to cook moist), but it was not as satisfying as the reviews had promised. As we sat down we were quicky offered drinks and after that..it was us alone with the long menu and an even longer wait for some food. An hour later we were served the Haryali mint and cilantro grilled chicken appetizer, which as basically a pale chicken shish kebab with flavorful, yet minimal seasoning that seemed to be poured over the shish after it has been cooked. I am making this assumption since the meat was not tenderized (as it would have been had it been marinated in the yogurt and the seasonings as described in the menu and much anticipated). Anyway, an hour and 20 minutes after we sat down at our table, our entrees arrived. We had the Seekh kabab and Midley vindaloo lamb and chicken curry. The lamb kebab was basically spicy lamb burgers shaped like sausages. The texture was soft but not squiring moist. It felt mealy, like the meat had been previously frozen. For $15 entree of nothing but a pile of lamb burgers (no veggies other than some oily onions and three thin slices of peppers; the onions were not caramelized but barely cooked) we expected fresh meat. I do cook fresh lamb burgers at home, and we could taste the difference in the texture. So, honestly I was not impressed. The curry was much better. In fact that was the only dish we actually enjoyed. But then we were basically starved by the time our food came. On a side note. There was a couple that arrived after us and was served an appetizer and their main courses before us. They left the restaurant half through our meal. All in all, an hour and forty minutes later, we left the restaurant full and unsure of a repeat visit but ultimately even without the long wait, the food just did not leave a great impression. read more

My favorite spot to get a spicy Chicken Vindaloo and a mango lassi. I always recommend this place as my number one Indian restaurant.

I've been frequenting this establishment for the past four years, and not once have I walked away unsatisfied. There is nothing on their menu that I haven't thoroughly enjoyed. Even their buffet is fantastic, with more than enough variety to satiate your appetite, but I do recommend ordering off their menu whenever you get a chance. read more

Great Indian/Pakistani food.... We order "to go" regularly. Phone ahead, food ready when I arrive, pleasant chats with servers to pay bill. Then my family enjoys great food in our quiet spacious home (with our wine!) Chicken Tikka Masala is very good. Palak Paneer (order medium spicy) is delicious. Garlic Naan is fresh and tasty. We stick with the basics there, and we are very satisfied. Not many choices in West County, but Saffron is a very good choice. The dining area is typical Indian restaurant.... OK furnishings... But very nice serving employees and owners. read more

Food is ok but rude and unfriendly staff. I went there couple of times and I hated myself for it. Also they used to say that they close at 3:00 pm but they don't accept any costumer after 2:30. They seemed to fix the closing time here though. Overall it is not a nice place to go. read more

Hands down, the best Indian food I've ever had. I was never a big fan of Indian cuisine until I went to Saffron and was treated to their lunch buffet. The food is top notch, and the staff is super friendly. The food doesn't come quickly, but it's not fast food. It's worth the wait. For dinner, they cook to order and will make their dishes as mild or spicy as you'd like. Their Chicken Tikka Masala is second to none, as is their naan bread. Large portions and the staff are willing to take the time to explain their dishes if you have any questions! Come get cultured and enjoy some great food!!! A++ read more

The vegetarian dishes were very good! I am not a vegetarian!!!! Mushroom palak was exceptional. Dal soup tasted delicious but was cooked to the point of no texture. The zucchini dish was very good. There was no chicken biryani the entire time I was there. The chicken curry was bland. The red chicken not tikka masala was ok but I took the last and it was not replenished. My husband and I love Saffron!!! We go so often that when we sit down all we have to say is "the same please" and we have a laugh with the waiter. The place is really clean and the food is outstanding. My favorite is the aloo gobi and chicken tikka masala. I'm sorry if I butchered the spelling. My husband likes it a bit spicier than I do so they always bring me a little dish of a yogurt concoction to make it wonderful. Five stars. read more
