I was in my hometown for the holidays and I always eat at Kohinoor (my favorite Indian restaurant in existence), but one of my friends said we were going to eat at Saffron instead. Immediately I felt like I was cheating on Kohinoor. I even parked several blocks away from Saffron, wore my sunglasses all the way inside, and kept checking over my shoulder in case anyone should see where I was going... But that was the end of my dubious behaviour because Saffron was delicious in every sense of the word! We were a party of 9 and ordered several dishes and shared them family style. There were several lamb and seafood dishes on the table, but I sat toward the vegetarian side and feasted on malai kofta (my favorite), pumpkin masala (oh my word, incredibly hot!), aloo gobhi, (cauliflower and potato, mouth on fiiiiiyahhhhh), vegetable biryani, and we ordered naan after naan after naan after naan (to soak up the red hot flame in my mouth), with my favorite being the cheese naan and the masala kutcha (I could eat this every day and never tire of it) and the ever so cooling raita.
The staff here were friendly, very funny, and very helpful. All the food came out together and the flavors of the food blew my senses away. Shhhhhh, don't tell Kohinoor, but I may have found my new go-to place when I'm back home!
FYI - this place is BYO (and oh boy, did we BYO!). read more
