In the mood for Persian food, we decided to check out Saffron Grill. Parking was easy in the lot, though the restaurant was smaller than I expected. The furniture was wooden and eclectic, with some small tables but mostly large long tables. Decor was also fun with cool lights/lamps. Service was excellent, I believe we were waited on by the owner couple. The menu was smaller than what I saw online but they still had a good number of dishes. We ended up ordering the beef soltani (combination of beef koobideh with beef steak) with zereshk (barberry) rice, salmon with dill rice, and gheimeh stew. I love the flavored Persian rices, and was glad Saffron offered so many options of rice made-to-order. Each rice even came with some tahdig (crunchy rice). All of the food was scrumptious though portions just fair for the price. We were also served warm bread with butter. Empty on a Saturday night at 5:45. Good news - no wait for your food! We ordered a koobedeh combo plate (beef and chicken) ($16) and a gyro plate ($16). It came with warm pita and butter. Food came out after about 13 minutes. Chicken koobideh, amazing! Gyro, amazing! Beef koobideh, just ok, but I'll order all chicken next time. We also got the tadig because why come to a Persian restaurant and not have any tadig? My mother got some chicken koobideh and I got a lamb shank because of my obsession with having lamb whenever I see it on the menu. The food was rich and plentiful. It would be difficult to not have leftovers, although I managed to eat my plate deliciously. Our food was served on two plates, one for the food itself, and one for the dining plate. When I called to find out what happened the guy basically berated me over the phone saying they never got the order and if we want he can make it or cancel it, he doesn't care. This place is MUST every time I'm back in town. The basmati rice is so fluffy and all the skewers are cooked to perfection - tasty and moist. I fell in love the first time with the salad dressing which I believe is a cilantro-based. This time I got an extra side of it because who said I can't dip my meats in it too? YUM. It can get pretty busy so I recommend calling in ahead of time. When I was picking up my food on a Saturday evening, the wait time for take out orders was an hour, so plan ahead of time. The food is made-to-order so it's extra fresh when you get it. Plus, they don't warm up the pita bread until you get there! During covid, I feel like when I get take out, the quality is a little compromised but definitely not here - everything is SO appetizing.
