I have always had great experiences at this Safeway - in store, drive up and go, and delivery. Today (3/4/26) my delivery order said it was delivered but nothing was outside, which is a first after getting delivery twice a week for years. Talking to ai chat, and ai rep, I got no where. But once they sent me to the girl in drive up and go I was taken care of. She was so nice and said they will pick the order for me again and make sure I don't get the same doordash driver again. She even called me later to tell me the driver has the groceries in the car and on the way. Once they arrived I opened the door to a small plant and a sweet handwritten note apologizing from drive up and go. It made my day! I've been coming to this Safeway for 3 years now. I usually don't use the self check out. I figure I'm job security. Today there was a full line and only one checker. So I went through the self checkout. This was a joke. It kept stopping to have the person come check on me. And when I started bagging it flagged me because of my bag. I will not be going through there again. Might need to shop somewhere else. read more

Everyone there, except one tall guy, needs an attitude adjustment and customer service training. They're rude 24/7 and seem to want to be anywhere else. Super weird to get a job based around customers just to be pissed off everyday. read more

I used self check out yesterday and when we were done, the blurb came on the screen saying help is on the way. Not sure why but this very tall man just about pushed us out of the way to check it out. No hi or excuse me just said move! Found out a few minutes later he was the store manager! WOW. He was extremely rude to us. Not a very good manager at all. read more

It's so clean, so organized and simply an excellent place to shop. I was at an Auburn Safeway last week and wow, the difference was unreal - dirty, dingy ... even the parking lot was gross. Made me really miss my Yelm Safeway and appreciate this great little town! I hope the current manager at Yelm Safeway never retires, he deserves a raise and round of applause. The store is fine. The problem is in the bakery. The bakery is inconsistent and lacks professionalism, and customizable cakes and cupcakes are not how they promise. Luckily kids tend to be easy to please, but I paid extra for the extras. Yet, they couldn't even read what they wrote for the order. I received an unfinished cake and cupcakes with half-done coloring and incorrect sprinkles/toppings. The main decorations were missing from the cake. They stuck two bats in and just said this looks good. It was all bad, and they just took a couple of pieces from another cake to throw on the cake I ordered as I stood there. Then blamed everything on the staff from the night before while joking. It was a complete waste of money and time. I absolutely would not use the Safeway Bakery in Yelm, Washington again! please check expiration dates on your food before you buy it, im finding deli products past expiration date, cake mix, bottled drinks that where 2 years old, cheese,yogurt expired, rana fresh pasta 2 and 3 days past expiration, even produce that is spoiled due to inproper rotation, fda has an expiration date on everything why should i buy food that is already expired or has 2 days left before it expires when grocery prices are outrageous and most people shop one to two weeks at a time when they buy food only to find out that the milk your child is drinking expired two days after buying it from the store, if you want to know for yourself start checking products through the store you might be suprised to find that the food your buying is already expired ,i mean how many people really check dates on food when you go to the store to buy food you would never think to check if its good, but food is not getting rotated please check expiration dates, i cant afford to throw away food i just bought ... read more

Imagine you are in line at the grocery store-cart full of groceries and then having the store shut down or you had to be out by a certain time like rush hour. That's what happened at Walmart because of FEAR: False,Evidence,Accepted as Real- of the BLM riots going to happen in Yelm. Walmart shut its doors, barricaded them with mulch and soil all the way up to the top windows and sent the employees home. Safeway on the other hand was not controlled by fear. They stayed open 'till 1am because they knew people needed to shop for food. They have higher prices yeah, but if you were hungry and needed to buy food, they were open! I want to add NO-ONE rioted, looted or burned anything down here because this area is Ruby Red and full of hardworking folks who have common sense. As for the masks, employees are wearing masks because they have to for work. Customers are not scared anymore because we know we have been lied to for 18 months. You can choose to wear a mask or not. Most around here have chosen not to. The store is clean. They people are very helpful and plus they have the best Monday Chicken special around! Shopping here is an upgrade. Often shop here but recently the merchandise are being moved to different areas in the store. Notice recently the aisles are more narrower very annoying , everyone trying to get out of each other's way, as if there trying to discourage you from shopping here. read more

On January 31 around 5:45 PM, we stopped at Safeway while driving through Yelm for a quick roadside snack. We walked in and noticed most of the patrons were not wearing masks. The employees were just as indifferent. Some had masks under their chin others had their nose sticking out. The masks were useless. We live in Renton. The Safeway in Renton has near a hundred percent compliance with safety. It appears Safeway corporate bends to the political will of the area where the store is located. Yelm is a rural area and like most rural areas masks are scorned and Covid is considered less of a problem. It is sad that Safeway corporate tolerates this behavior and utter indifference to the WA mask mandate. I will follow up with a complaint to the state for this blatant violation of the state's mask mandate and Safeway's willingness to put those Yelm residents at risk that attempt to stay safe. I will also call their corporate office and share our observations. If passing through Yelm, do not stop there during this pandemic. It is not a safe/healthy environment. read more

Wow! Definitely an oasis in the middle of nowhere and I would much rather shop here than the Walmart down the road. I didn't want to buy tires and underwear, I just wanted to buy supplies for a big dinner I was cooking for my daughter and her Soldiers. EVERYTHING I needed was here, even ripe, delicious avocados! There was a hot deli with a ton of yummy smelling food but it seems that most of the folks there in the long line were there to purchase Chinese food from the deli. It honestly looked very good but we had our sights set on a hot, roasted chicken and fresh sourdough bread. They are called Vons in San Diego but whatever you call them, they were a godsend! read more

Average grocery store. Slightly inflated prices on produce compared to other stores (especially grapes), deli food was a disappointment aka Yuck, average item selection. The store was clean and well- organized though. Checkout staff was friendly. Be sure to get the Safeway app for coupons & other deals you can't see with just the member card. It's really easy to use and I often load coupons with my phone as I shop. read more

Nice clean store and easy to get in and out. They do have a gas station here, although I generally dont go to store gas stations. The produce (I was looking for Strawberries) was so so, so ended up not getting anything in that nature here as I'm very picky in buying stuff as only want it to look the best possible- if it doesnt look great I wont spend money on it! As far as grocery shopping goes Safeway is a nice change from the Super Walmart down the street BUT I am not a fan of the Safeway Deli area. I picked up Sesame Chicken and fried chicken from Safeway's Deli...the fried chicken had very little meat and the sesame chicken didn't taste anything like sesame chicken. It was soggy, too sweet and had a hint of Peanut Butter taste? Strange... The family agreed dinner was a FAIL that night. For groceries, wine, beer or flowers go to Safeway but for a quick dinner stay far away from their deli. You are better off going to the Walmart Deli area or one of the many fast food joints in the area. read more

Ok...should of written this a long time ago, but here it is...I love this store, and the staff are always so kind, and welcoming to me and my family. One of my daughters has Autism, and the staff at Safeway always treats her with such compassion, and patience, even when she is having a difficult time. Today I rented some movies, and I wish I knew the name of who helped us, but whoever was at the customer service desk around 4:30, went above and beyond to help us today. The staff is exceptional, and I will continue to support this store, because the people that work there go the extra mile, and that alone will bring me back again and again. I decided to go to Safeway for fried chicken for the family for dinner. I decided that their chicken is way better then KFC.... Oh how I was wrong. I ordered 16 piece chicken n a pizza stick. I asked if they could substitute the wings for legs? He very rudely replied "No, that I will not do" a simple no we can't do that would have worked. There was no need for a snotty attitude. So I was like well ok I'll take the normal then. He sighed n grabbed a bag... Not a big deal I continued to ask when there was gonna be a new batch of potato wedges made? (It was almost empty n what was left looked very dry) He replied "we aren't making no more" I said oh it's only 430 don't y'all close at 8? He replied real snoty "doesn't matter I said we aren't making any more" i looked back at the chicken bar, (definitely hoping for good sight cause I woulda said screw the fried chicken)it was gross. There was chicken mixed with other chicken. The sides was messy with sauce. When I got home the chicken was extremely dry (cold, dollar store, day old chicken would have been better) so I bit into my pizza stick (in hopes that it was gonna be way better as Safeway makes the best pizza stick *not anymore*) it was damn near tooth breaking to bite it n the entire insides was missing pretty much cause it was so dried out.... I'm so disgusted at how he treated me n the attitude that he pushed at me!!! I'll pay the extra money n gain the extra pounds for kfc. I won't ever return to this Safeway. I will also be telling my friends/family not to deal with the deli portion due too the messy condition, un healthy condition, disrespectful, unprofessional young man who works in the deli. Just disgusting..... I got better service at McDonald's then here. Suggestion: let's go for NOT giving people food poisoning. I really can't say enough good things about our local Safeway! Every one of them exceed my expectations on a regular basis! I am totally in love with the floral department right now and purchase much of my home and salon decor there. So many great ideas-I have definitely bought whole displays to recreate myself. Stopped by on the way back from our Tuesday Casino day. The Wing bar looked good,but the chicken was all over cooked and the signs on top of the bar were all mixed up. Plus the coatings were all lacking flavor, especially the vinegar salt wings. Very little vinegar and not much salt. On the plus side the Pacific Coast Clam Chowder was delicious if a little thin. It has been over 8 years since we've bought a cake from safeway in Yelm. The first was a fail, for my daughters baby shower, it looked like a 3 layer St.Patricks Day cake, of course no choice but to take it as I was in tears.. My husband ordered my birthday cake and arrived today 6/29/13 to pick it up thinking all is good. LOL, they have no order of a cake for him, as he is standing there showing them his order ticket. He left mad and empty handed unlike myself, everyone in the store would have known what was going on. If you want a great and detailed cake with no disappointment go to WALMART & ASK FOR HEAD BAKER JEANETTE. She has make 4 or 5 cakes for me. YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED, as we were again today with safeways employees in the bakery dept. I shop at safeway now only when they have sale items that I am looking for. I have walmart's head baker on my speed dial, I offered to order the cake, but my husband went for the gas points,lol, bet he won't make that mistake again.
