Safeway fixes their prices to cheat you. Sale prices do not always work at all. Digital pricing is like rolling the dice - you might get it correct, but mostly not. Their pricing is intentional for them to make more profit. There are always pricing errors on purpose. I spent over $800 per month for over a year. I had to go back in the store every week after I reviewed my bill - to get refunds to correct wrong pricing. It's not the clerks fault, when they say. "It will all adjust at the end of your bill." That does not always happen at all. It's planned corporate greed. I quit. Costco does not make billing errors. I switched & I'm much happier. I only shop here for very few necessary items now. Store is clean and most employees are very helpful. Although I was sent to the wrong aisle, for my item, Customer service redirected me to the right place. While checking out at self check out the screen on the cc machine had a survey. The employee reached over my cart pushing it into the shelf and filled out the survey for me. Making all the best possible options. Now that survey that I didn't take is connected with my phone number. I have no clue what the questions where. Dose not seem right. read more

I only visit this store every 10 days, but every 10 days it is an awful experience. Not one employee says excuse me. I get needing to restock shelves, but not one employee says excuse me: they basically aim the cart at you and expect you to jump out of the way. Very rude employees, never a smile or a hello. The prices are higher at this Safeway, compared to other Safeways. The produce is never fresh and spoils fast. The prices are high enough for you to provide fresh products. read more

Sadly, since this particular store doesn't enforce the mask policy we will no longer be shopping here. We've been customers for over 30 years. The last few times we were in the store there were several customers not wearing masks. When we asked the cashier about this she said it was too hard to enforce the rule. The manager said the same thing. This answer is unacceptable considering the health and safety of my family is at risk. The mask rule is easy to enforce. If you are in a hurry don't shop here, the slowest cashiers I have ever seen. Worse then Walmart. They have the worst customer service as well. These employees must hate there jobs I've seen these cashiers being completely rude to customers. Just this morning while I'm waiting in line a gal needed to rerun an item and asked the cashier a question (the one and only cashier in the whole entire store who had a line of about 5 people) the cashier snapped at her rudely and said I can't help you without a receipt then turned her back on her and made a sneer remark. These cashiers act like they all have physical disabilities and it hurts to move. They groan and moan when they have to pick up something off the floor or God for bid put your groceries in your cart. The only positive thing I can say about this place is the gals who work at the Starbucks are really great they are hard workers always moving fast, with a great attitude. read more

Really, this is a surprisingly nice place to shop, considering the size of the town. They even have a Starbucks. However, it's really no different than many other Safeways. It's got the same color scheme and feel of other stores, and the same prices, too. If I'm being honest, though, I'm quite surprised--when comparing it to other similar areas--that it was so busy. Horrible pharmacy they completely ignored my request to transfer I had to drive back and forth from one to the other spent most the day waiting for a fax to go through them they said it got shoved under other papers waiting inline for half hour just so they could say we haven't faxed it yet glad I transferred. read more

I find the energy here to be very negative. There are never enough registers open and the employees hardly ever make me feel welcome. On many occasions, they will say nothing but the total amount due, with limited to no eye contact. Some even spend the entire time talking with their neighboring clerk, not even bothering to tell me how much is due. Not all of them are like this. In fact, some of the clerks are quite nice to me, but sadly, I usually get the rude ones. It's the bad experiences I remember most and that have happened too often with me here. Another thing that really annoys me is when a new register opens up, they do not take the next person in line. It usually ends up that the people behind me (who just got in line 10 seconds ago) will be helped by the first and I will have to add on to my wait of 10 minutes. Most other stores I go to will have the new clerk walk over and help the next customer in line carry their products over to the new register. There always seems to be dozens of sales going on, but if you look closely, you are not really saving a whole lot, if much at all. I would much rather pay the extra .50 to a dollar and hop over to Roth's where the atmosphere is much more pleasant and the clerks actually show that they care about their customers. read more

Worst safeway ever! Lines are terrible!! This is a small town, that doesn't mean we should have to wait in line for 20 minutes! You finally installed self check but then you took away all the checkers?! Ridiculous! And since it's the only grocery store in town, you know you can afford another person or two. Today was stayton days and you know it's going to be busier than usual and yet still only 2 checkers?! If another store comes to town, I'll never shop here again! I took a person to have several medical procedures, including a transfusion, and felt she would be safe to walk through this store on her own to pick up her medications and a treat from the bakery. It was a very simple task, she had her Safeway Club number and my debit card in her hand. However, a simple experience was the farthest thing that took place. After being physically tackled and knocked completely down to the floor and dropping the cake she had picked up, she was very disoriented but received no assistance from any of the store workers (and there are always many workers at Safeway stores). No instead she was starred down by two employees that were trying not to laugh. That's just great. Once she was able to get back on her feet, she picked up the cake, picked up the bank card, forgot to get her prescriptions, and walked as quickly as she could toward the car where I was waiting for her- Directly in front of the door in the handicap parking spot. As we have shopped here on numerous occasions and reside In the City of Stayton, I would not have taken up teaching patients to steal cake while trying to learn to function independently in society. As she was able to approach the car a lady came out after her and said ma'am you need to come in with me to pay for that. My patient turned directly around and followed her in, embarrassed when she realized what she had done, and tried to hand the lady the debit card she was still holding in her hand. When I realized something was wrong, i ran after her and tried to get my patient to talk. The lady pushed her into a tiny room by customer service and slammed the door in my face. After 20 minutes, my patient came out of that office, crying hysterically at all of the mean things she was told such as she was a thief, they could put her in jail, and that I could not help her. This is not the way society should treat those with any type of disability or difference. It was completely obvious of her state of mind, as she was on her first trip in to any store alone for several years. I cannot believe how horrible the employees treated a mentally ill person, how dare them! I was going to try to accept this as a simple mistake by a company employee, but this is now Twice in One Week that I have been astonished by the terrible prejudices I have witnessed. What is wrong with these people, and who decides that they are better than others because they are different?? I now understand why my grandmother refuses to go the grocery store anymore- there is one Safeway in Stayton and how many times was she humiliated because she's old? It sure appears that Safeway employees feel they have the right to be prejudice, humiliating and rude when they are working in a customer service position. My mother has worked for the Tigard Safeway for nearly 20 years, I have never heard her say the company model is to judge people by their appearance and harass those that aren't to their personal liking. read more

Safeway is always fairly clean(besides the bathrooms) and it's a nice place to shop for a small town. Most of the employees are very nice, however there are a few who are rude and act annoyed by your presence. It's also a little awkward when the cashier doesn't speak to you or will just dully ask "how are you?" without looking up. There are some pretty good deals though, and a wide variety of products. read more

I love going to this store, if you act kindly to the staff they will treat you well, and the pharmacist is really funny and easy to get along with. The food is always pretty easy to find and the layout it good. I really enjoy the people who work there, always ready to help out and can hold a conversation while working. Where do I start!? Well, I've been going to this Safeway for over 10 years now.. Their produce is typically moldy/shriveled and over priced. Since it is a small town grocery store they don't have a lot of items compared to a store in the City. Since Oregon is expanding I'd think that Stayton Safeway would step it up and start stocking their shelves with a lot more products/brands... guess not. Their deli section with the made to order sandwiches suck, every time I order a sandwich off of THEIR menu the person behind the counter asks me what I want on my sandwich..... well, whatever YOUR board says is what I want (Isn't that the purpose of having a menu?). I'm going to fast forward past the dirty bathrooms comment and get straight to the customer service. From my experience the last 10 years the deli section has the worst customer service in the entire safeway building.. I don't want to hear other employees talking bad about another employee or their boss, I also don't want to hear about how sh*% faced you got last night. Most of all it would be nice to walk up to the counter and feel like I'm not an inconvenience to you. Its customer service for a reason, wear a clean shirt and put a smile on, no matter how hungover you are. Eh, it's okay here. Starbucks is good, I always get blueberry scones from there. And they have excellent Vivanno smoothies. But I only go here for the Starbucks. There's only a few nice people at Safeway, and they're deli/chinese place is very horrible. Don't get the fried chicken here, very greasy. read more

I love shopping Safeway. Their coupons are easy to use, they are friendly enough, prices are fairly competitive if you know the cost of what an item should be and you buy on sales. I think my only complaint is the fact that they ring produce up wrong often. I check my receipts thoroughly and find many mistakes, but so far they have always been willing to make it right. They might deserve a 4 star, but I was on the line between 3 or 4. Maybe next time they will earn a true 4 star read more

I've been shopping at this Safeway for over 20 years. I used to not mind a trip to the store. But about 5 years ago things really started to slip. The shelves are not nearly as fully stocked, staff (stockers, baggers, checkers AND management) has gotten a more "what do you even want" vs "how can I help you" attitude over the years and there is just an overall feeling of un-professionalism. The store has been dirty and chronically understaffed...but then they just remodeled. And I got my hopes up. Still understaffed. And my husband (who hasn't been inside Safeway in about 2 years) popped in yesterday and afterwards asked why the store has slipped so much and why the store was so dirty. They literally finished the remodel a couple of weeks ago. I had no good answer for him except that I no longer want to shop there. EVER. But they are the only reasonably priced store in the vicinity so I feel stuck more often than not. And I have taken complaints to management only to get excuse after excuse as to why I have so many mistakes on the receipt, why staff has no knowledge of current sales, why staff has no idea where items are on shelves, why staff repeatedly puts bread underneath cans of food in my cart........the list goes on and on. I don't want excuses. I want a change in processes. I want a local grocery store that I WANT to support. I want my old Safeway back. From before they got bought out. read more

Moved back to the state recently in a nearby town same house I lived in temporary long ago. (Not Newport). The Same rude employees worked there after all these years. I was hoping for a change of staff but sadly I recognized them and they recognized me . They must live in the dermatology department cause they still look the same haven't aged a bit. The people at the deli are an overbearing weight for Safeway. They are rude, they put items on the shelves past Best Used dates. The same bagger was dressed like she was working on a construction site on a busy street or worked at Costco. Baggers should be wearing uniforms or the same style of clothes that the other employees wear. Many of them didn't have their nametags displayed and if any of them did they were not displayed properly. The same guy that was sitting at Starbucks was on his laptop and was there the last time I went there all those years ago doing the exact same thing. Putting items on the shelves past Best Used dates could cost them a lot of problems. What if someone had gotten sick? April 4th 2017 was best used by date I went on April 10th 2017 I handed them the products in the Del,i she just said "Someone wasn't doing their job" she said it to another employee smiled and laughed.
