I have been shopping here for 30 years, back when it was called "Pak n Save," and honestly, I miss those days. You got a discount for packing your own bags! It was great! Of course, now we even ring up our own items lol so, can't expect a discount for packing anymore. Either way, the prices have skyrocketed and it's difficult to find someone to help you. The lines for serviced checkouts are usually super long as well. I try not to use self-checkout to save jobs, but I'm almost forced to if I need to get in-get out in a hurry! Unfortunately what should have been a simple early Mother's Day flower run turned into a really frustrating experience, mostly due to an interaction with Feng in the floral department. We asked if we could purchase a small balloon to add to a bouquet we were buying. Feng flatly refused, saying the balloons were for the plants and that they didn't have enough. We then picked a balloon from an orchid arrangement we liked and stepped away briefly to grab some fruit nearby since we were carrying everything without a basket. Feng then approached us as if we were stealing and asked us if we were going to pay for the flowers. We calmly explained that we fully intended to purchase the orchid arrangement and were just grabbing fruit first. Despite this, we were made to complete our floral purchase right then and there with Feng. When we asked to speak with a manager, Feng directed us to Gianna but refused to be present for the conversation and when we requested her involvement, she responded by saying "you abused me first," which was completely uncalled for and simply untrue. We did speak with Gianna, who was genuinely helpful and professional. She facilitated a return on the orchids and allowed us to keep the balloon. She also acknowledged that Feng should have offered us a balloon upgrade from the start, something we weren't even aware was an option. Had Feng mentioned that when we first asked, the entire situation could have been avoided. We were already purchasing two bouquets and would have happily paid for the upgrade. The two stars are entirely for Gianna's help in resolving the situation. Feng offered no solutions, showed no customer service, and escalated a non-issue over a single balloon. As a supervisor, that's a really poor reflection on the department. We won't be buying flowers from this Safeway again. read more

The colors blended beautifully and looked so elegant. $29.99 for 8 inch double layer cake. Cake is moist and yummy. The cake decorator Marissa was super sweet and even helped put the decorations on for me, which made everything come together perfectly. Since the past couple months, Dec, I have had 3 online delivery orders drop so far in the evenings anywhere btwn 6-10pm. It processes, then shopping never begins. Each time a call to the store is made no one answers customer service. The last time it happened I called the universal customer help though, and the calls go offshore, so they had no solution when they also called the store like I tried. Then the rep was going to email me a link to reschedule, and her email didn't work. So I just rescheduled next day online since their help line can't do anything. If this happens to you, your only chance is to reschedule before the store completes processing the order next day. If you let the store deliver automatically next morning, you may get double charged for delivery and will need to email for a refund on delivery fees. Unfortunately, you never hear from the store or customer service re these mishaps, and if the store for whatever reason cannot delivery during the times it says online, they don't edit their delivery choices. So no one's watching this, and the location is not held accountable. read more

I had just dropped my brother's family off at the airport, and I knew I needed to get dessert for Easter dinner the following day, but I had too many bright ideas about spectacular SF places before realizing that most of those spectacular SF places probably had Easter orders up the wazoo, and I hadn't placed an order yet, and I also worried that if I tried to grab whatever was left on Easter Sunday itself, I might end up missing out. Plus I'm addicted to carrot chips. So I drove the longish way around just looking for the Safeway I thought I knew was there, got lost, and finally just placed my trust in the GPS's hands. The dessert selection wasn't the best, but again, this was the afternoon of Holy Saturday, so the apple pie I got was the apple pie I got. I was worried that it wouldn't be nice enough, but honestly, it was delicious. It didn't taste homemade, but it didn't taste like a Safeway pie either. The store itself is fine. Have been shopping here off and on for decades beginning when it was originally called Pak n Sav. Since Safeway has taken over it began really well. However, recently due to corporate greed the prices have soared a lot. Between Safeway & Lucky (of which there are now only two in SF & one in So. SF that I know of nearby) they seem to want to outdo the other in who can charge higher prices. However, if one does find a sale price nowadays it's good considering... The cashiers are hit or miss mainly miss. I can think of only one professional, old school courteous cashier today. Her name is Marilyn & she has been there for years. This is a decent sized grocery store in my opinion. For the most part everything I ever need they always have. They cashiers are always very friendly and helpful. The baggers are always on top of their game of course my partner and I are very OCD about how we organize our bags so we usually bag our own items but every time we go someone always asks if we would like our items bagged. There is a guy that really keeps up the carts and I can always tell when he is working. His name is Alex J. I finally got his name on tonight's trip and I just wanted to say how awesome he is at keeping the carts out of the parking lot and available for customers which is awesome! Dangerous area. I brought my two female members of my family to the store tonight to purchase some products. Make sure you park on the north side of the lot near the car dealership. There are tons of abandoned cars, homeless people roaming the lot and dumping. I can't believe how bad this area has gotten. It's clear Safeway doesn't care because it's their property. There is a car on blocks missing all four tires. There is a huge pile of trash and you can see rodents moving around in low light. Gross! I feel bad for the people that live nearby as Safeway is promoting homeless encampments in SSF. I'm going to write City Council and code enforcement about this ridiculousness. I've been going to this Safeway location basically forever and I rarely ever have a bad experience going. This is definitely one of the cleaner and more well maintained Safeways nearby. There is also a small Starbucks inside the store which is also a plus. They also have a pretty good selection of items and produce section is always fresh as well. If you are lactose intolerant like me they also provide tons of non-dairy options especially in the ice cream section which is great for me personally. I'd recommend Planet Oat! You'll be able to find a lot of what you need here. I've never seen myself any section where they left out food that has gone bad or gone moldy. Usually the staff takes good care of what is on the shelves. I've also always had good interactions with anyone that is working there and were always nice. read more

Pretty good store all in all. Have shopped here many times. It's a mid size Safeway so it carries all the staples and a few frills. Deli sandwiches are spot on with pretty attentive staff and generally short wait. My only complaint is that their pre sliced mango has to be one of the most hit or miss items on the shelf. You have a 1 in 3 chance (approximately, of course) of getting rock hard chunks, perfectly ripened, or slightly alcoholic. Recently got a tub that just smelled and tasted like someone poured a shot of vodka over the fruit. Thankfully where the mango falls short, the pineapple always succeeds. read more

This Safeway is a disaster!! It's the manager, whom is always outside smoking! We go early in the morning as many many people do, she always has only ONE checker - ALWAYS!!! The checker NEVER has a bagger. There are always 6 to 8 people in line. I have pictures. Then when you go up to the assistant manager and tell her to get another checker- she will pacify you and say "yes" then she will send a bagger and no cashier will appear. I'm tired of consistently waiting literally no exaggeration here- 20 minutes in line and sometimes longer by the time you exit the establishment! The carts are ALL broken and they are extremely difficult to navigate. Not to mention that one of the managers approached me gossiping about one of her co-workers. I told her I'm not interested and what your saying by the way ; is towards an OLDER employee and you and this store can be liable if he wants to claim elder discrimination. The only good employee - does not seem to be there anymore. Maybe she wasn't in the clique with the managers. I've had enough I'm calling corporate!!! read more

The store itself is fine as far as grocery stores go but I won't eat the self-serve hot wings. Again today I watched a guy using the tongs with his bare hands to serve himself up a serving of wings. When he was done he simply laid the tongs back atop the chicken and the part of the tongs that were in his hand and those of everyone before him was now in contact with the wings that other people would be consuming. Gross. The entire portable hot wing bar is away from the actual deli counter and totally exposed to passersby who could contaminate the food if they wanted. I looked closer and observed signage on the bar that advised people to use a "Tissue" yet there were no "Tissues" present for use and I doubt a tissue would be have any real impact anyway. I saw no enforcement or employee supervision of this hot bar. I see there are other unpleasant reviews about people at this hot wing bar as well. C'mon Safeway, fix this before someone falls very ill. read more

I love this Safeway! To me, it seems to be bigger than other locations I've been to with more specialty offerings. Everything is always fully stocked and very clean. I think it's cute that all of their aisles are named after different streets in South City, ie Westborough Blvd, Appian Way, etc. The only thing I think could be slightly better is having more checkout lanes open during busier times - when I go (usually Sat afternoons), there might only be 2 lanes open with several people in the queue in each one. read more

The clerks are don't even pretend to be pleasant. What happened to making the customer feel welcomed? It has become more engaging, stress less and enjoyable to order online. HORRIBLE delivery service. I submitted my order at 6:45am. They said delivery will be 11am - 3pm. It is already 2:50pm! I spoke with the delivery driver who said there is a long line of 50-60 people and it may not be for another hour until I receive the delivery! He even asked if I wanted to cancel...wow. I told him it took me a while to do my order and I have been waiting...and that by the time I get it, it'll be dinner time! I thought I would be getting my food sooner rather than later. Tried drive up & go for the first time due to Covid. It was chaos. The app doesn't work (hasn't worked for me or my husband for the past two years despite deleting and reinstalling the app or notifying the Safeway tech support). The phone number they listed to call, no one picked up. We tried for 15 min while sitting in our car waiting in the designated pickup & go spaces. Finally, my husband had to ask someone to go inside and let one of their cashiers know we were here to pick up our order. It took 20 min just to get our picked up. My biggest problem is with the absence of anyone manning the phones listed and the app which has not worked for a couple of years. I am genuinely curious; does anyone's Safeway app work? read more
