Absolutely terrible with pre order pickup. I usually avoid this specific Safeway at all costs, but given I was in the area, I tried again to pick up my order. Once again, they failed. I love this place!! The products and the service is always good until today.... I was in line at the customer service to get a money order, this lady comes around switching me and an older guy, making him first in line but the other lady showed up just before she even went in and I was still last when I arrived first! This might seem like I'm complaining about a small issue but this small issue is actually a big issue to me because how did I just become next in line when I was first!??? Was it my skin color, because I'm dark and obviously not white, but the other guy is white!! So did I just get put out of line cause my skin color? This lady is suppose to maintain order here in front while the other lady is gone. But why treat me like I wasn't that important, yeah, I can wait even if I was first, if I wanted to be next in line, I would have came here later...right!? Today suddenly noticed that ALL the safeway bakery products , cookies , pies , pastry , cakes all of it now has bioengineered ingredients which are GMO. Absolutely terrible service! I was waiting at the fresh meat counter a few minutes before I noticed the "ring bell for service" sign. I ring the bell and while I'm waiting, an employee - a bagger I believe - had approached the counter. After a few more minutes, the butcher arrived. He started to make his way toward me and I indicated that I wanted two Ahi tuna steaks. Before he could retrieve my steaks, the bagger got his attention and the butcher simply turned his back to me and proceeded to help the bagger, who apparently had a question about some chicken. The bagger never apprised the butcher that I was there first and the butcher simply dismissed me to help the bagger. When he finally made his way to me, 2 - 3 minutes later, there was no explanation or anything else. It was only after I informed him I had been waiting for service for a longer period of time than the bagger and I thought it was rude the way he simply walked off, did he offer a weak apology. I am new to Sierra Vista and decided to compare grocery stores here. Safeway was my last store to check out. I was not impressed at all. At the check out I asked the cashier Jennifer about how to get the deals and if they offered a card. She said put your phone number in, which is an out of state number. Nothing happened. Then she said, well we don't offer a card. She was rude and not helpful at all. She yelled at my brother to move up but the person in front of us was still having his groceries bagged. We won't go back again. We met a lot of friendly and helpful people since we got to Sierra Vista, just not at Safeway. We'll shop elsewhere. read more

The grocery aspect of this store is okay but the salad and chicken wing bar is always out of stock and the quality of food is very mediocre when I know other Safeways have better quality then this location. This older model Safeway must be feeling the pinch of the new Super Wal-Mart & the re-ramped Signature Fry's. There isn't a sushi chef on hand, but they do have a Starbuck's and a tiny sitting area where the leisure set can read the paper and people watch. Their cashiers always thank me for shopping there - get this - by name. Yeah, I know, it comes up when you scan your shopper's card, but it's a nice, old-fashioned, personal touch. I love their Lucerne brand of dairy products, with the sole exception of their low-fat sour cream - Daisy & Shamrock Farms' reduced fat sour cream is superior. They offer the only 1% fat cottage cheese that I've EVER found and it is rich & luscious to boot. Have you ever tried the deli at Fry's here in SV? It's an excruciating test of patience. There might be just one person in front of you and it'll still be 20 minutes 'til your turn. It's a shame, 'cause their fried chicken is WAY better than Safeways' & I adore Boar's Head meats & cheeses but I'll hafta choose my sanity over dealing with their deli staff. Safeway's deli is well staffed with helpful, available slicers. Their Primo Taglio brand of deli meats is so delicious - my fav is the sundried tomato turkey or maybe it's their mesquite turkey and the horseradish cheddar... The point is - you can't go wrong with their Primo Taglio meats & cheeses. Their donuts are better than Fry's, but that really isn't say'n much... Their fresh baked bagels are really huge and are cheaper, especially when you buy a dozen. Their entire bread section kicks the butt of all of the other stores. The flavors and variety are so much better. My favorite roll is their french roll - nice and crusty and clean, simple flavor and texture. Here is the the reason Safeway will forever linger in a golden light for me. I was picking up some ribs from their meat case, reaching for the package toward the far back of the row and a deep, smooth voice spoke. Meat Man: Let me get that for you, beautiful. Me: Thanks! MMan: May I thank you on the behalf of the entire store for shopping here, today. Me: oh *flushing* thank you MMan: You've made my afternoon. So, what's with that ring? Damn, you're married. I've picked up packages of meat that leaked blood everywhere, seen plastic tubs of strawberries covered in mold, and felt bags of pita bread that had just come out of the freezer and were placed onto a normal shelf. In fact, I just bought a container of hummus today, only to realize that it too has been pre-frozen and is now runny. Also, don't forget any of your groceries at the store when you leave. My husband accidentally left a bag of ice cream at the check out stand and went back to get it (all within 15 minutes) only to find it gone. He brought the receipt with him to show customer service that he bought it, but they gave him the run-around about how they needed to "check their security cameras" to make sure he bought it. Chances are an employee saw it there and put it away. Either way, I felt it was entirely bad customer service to assume that someone would come into the store and claim that they lost their ice cream in order to get a free replacement. Maybe one or two people have done it, but the majority of decent people in the world wouldn't stoop that low. I want my ice cream back!! read more

The staff is rude, never greet, never speak unless spoken to, I've been physically pushed out of the way when staff rushed by, their restroom is from hell. Yaaasss! Forgot how epic Safeway is! First off, it has a Starbucks inside, so you have the opportunity to grab a drink before you shop. Second, they have the most amazing produce section! Like, you will want to take pictures because the colors are so vibrant and perfect! They have a much wider variety than most grocery stores do. Third, they have a bakery, deli, and I believe fresh lunch/dinner available like soup etc. Fourth, holy mother of alcohol!!!! There's so much alcohol!! (Forgive me and my excitement, I've lived in Texas for almost five years.) Last, the store is clean, and the employees are friendly. There's also a Safeway card, saved us $30 today! I work quite some distance away & needed to figure out which cooler to haul several dozen donuts in. I called the bakery & tried to find out the dimensions of their donut box. What ensued were answers such as "there are 12 donuts in a dozen," "you put 12 donuts in a box," "oh, you want US to put the donuts in a cooler?" & some other questions I just couldn't discern. I finally asked to speak to someone else with discernable English. The gentleman prompting laughed at how simple the question was, then flatly told me he didn't know the dimensions of the box with no effort whatsoever to figure out my query. This young man also sounded like the fella I spoke to last week who'd never heard of Muesli bread. If you need donuts, this place has the biggest selection of flavors outside of a formal bakery/donut shop. They are far cheaper than the donut shop right outside the Main Gate. Just don't ask the bakery staff to try & use a ruler or identify common grains. I've also tried to order a sausage before & the meat department clerk also failed the people skills test. The prices for most everything else are typically outrageous. Kudos to the baggers who are usually pretty awesome. Finally, keep your head on a swivel since this is the nuttiest & deadliest parking lot in the SV outside of the Post Office. Today I had the pleasure of tasting the white cake with buttercream from this store and it was very delicious. I'm visiting from Los Angeles and this cake is comparable to Hansen's and Torrance Bakery. The cake was moist and did not disappoint. Safeway will be my go to cake spot when I visit. Just when things start looking up here, everything falls flat! Deli is up to snuff with current stock but SOME of the help seems to be locked in another time zone. How can you have unsold product, in a case, for weeks, when all of the other similar products are out of stock? If dey ain't sellin, dey ain't sellin! Get rid of the leftovers, don't order them again and get more of what is selling! "A simple job for simple people!" (Quote, Curley Howard, The 3 Stooges, circa 1938). The Bakery hasn't figured out what sells, or not, and yet cranks out the same old, same old day after day and lets it sit there and get stale. "Use Before______"? Yea, right! Dairy products by the half gallon on sale but no half gallons to be found? Yet quarts are on sale, at a few pennies more! Produce? Yea or nay! Go down the street and there are 2 stores, at lest one will have what you want, and hey, we all know it comes from the same, few purveyors, right? Probably the WORST inventory control in AZ! For the people, the staff and employees, at this Safeway, out of five stars I would award at least 10! As is the norm in Cochise County, the people are friendly, gracious, helpful, and even efficient. But prices? It is possible this grocery is the most expensive in at least Sierra Vista. However, the variety of products is probably larger than any other grocery, the quality is as high as or higher than any other grocery. And the various Safeway brands are as good as or better than possibly more-famous brands -- and usually cost less. And that's the way to shop at Safeway: read the advertisements, including the e-mails (yes, do sign up) and the weekly flyers sent out by the local paper (they usually arrive on Tuesdays), note the sale items, and, above all, hunt for the marked-down items. (There are two separate shelves in the back right-hand corner, one for just pet items!) As you peruse the aisles and shelves, watch for "close-out" and "discontinued" signs and stock up if you can. I will shop here as often as I can because I know of no other store that carries daikon radishes. Oh, this store has a nice section of allegedly organic produce, and Safeway carries a large number of O organic (house brand) products. I don't consider that very important but I know a lot of people who do, and they will appreciate this choice and, most likely, also be able to afford the organic items. There is a deli department where one can buy some nice, and even very nice, sub-type sandwiches. At reasonable but not bargain prices. But also available there is some delicious chicken. The roasted chicken was marked 'way down when I was there last and the very nice guy working urged me to try the fried next time. He even bragged about it! (It's so good to hear employees, at any and any kind of store, proud of what they're selling.) In particular he compared it to a specialty restaurant, and actually contrasted his product and especially its price to that restaurant. So, OK, next time I will try the fried. The roasted really was deeeelicious! The nearest to a complaint I have is that the aisles are too narrow. Two carts can pass each other, but just barely. And when the oblivious or unthinking customers park in the middle while perusing the shelves, it's bothersome. However, since the people of Cochise County are the nicest in these United States, as soon as they see someone trying to get by, they usually quickly move over and even apologize. (Nicest! Honest.) Oh, one other possible complaint: In the soda department, there are almost no diet flavors. Maybe if enough people mention it, as eager as are the personnel of this store to be helpful, the corporate bosses will wake up and stock the diet flavors. The Refreshe brand is as good as any, in my opinion. As I said, I'll go back. The employees alone are enough to get me to return. read more

There is nothing express about their express lines. I've been in line for 15 minutes for 3 things. And it was both express lines delayed like this. It was ridiculous, the two express lanes and normal lane was open. Super inconvenient and just bad business, the normal line moved faster. Safeway if you see this I suggest you choose the cashier you put in your "express" lanes wisely. 15 items or less doesn't make a difference if your cashiers are slow. I usually prefer Safeway in Sierra Vista, but the service provided by the people that work there is just awful. There are only three cashiers I can say were a delight and good. read more

4 stars may be a bit overly generous but first the good: They hire the most special needs people of any business in Sierra Vista that I'm aware of so that's super cool. At the same time, I feel like they've dialed back their fundraising, which is great they do fund raising, but it was getting a bit out of control as you always felt squeezed at check out for the flavor charity of the day. I have my own charity causes that I favor but I will donate depending on the cause at Safeway at times but nice to not always be pressured at checkout as it seemed more so before. The store is smaller than Frys which is a similar store in town but it is more neatly kept and their meat department has some of the best meat. Now some of the bad: The meat department sale items in Tucson or Phoenix are usually a $1.00 a pound less than here - which I understand as it's further to deliver - but Fry's does not do this. Also their Open Nature cage free brown eggs have super pasty egg yolks compared to Fry's Simple Truth version which means the chickens nutrition/diet is lower value so the chickens aren't cared for as well obviously - at least diet wise - as Fry's version. The BEST eggs are found every Thursday at the local farmer's market but you'll pay for it. read more

On Saturday morning, there was 1 cashier and Brandy said there were no others available, in spite of a long line. Manager didn't come for 15 minutes. The store should be expanded, Sierra Vista's simply outgrown this place and it's starting to get a little run down. So helpful! I've been to a ton of Safeway's all over the West Coast and this group of people at this store have just been about the nicest I have encountered. They special order Seltzer water in for me, they help me with my Safeway app issues because Safeway corporate isn't really interested in helping although they did give me back my gas points that they didn't give me so I'm very happy about that. The only downside is corporate made them take out the self checkout which I'm upset about but I'm sure everybody else is too. I hate this store! Every time I come, I say never again! They are the highest priced grocery in town with the worst customer service! I always pick the wrong line. Today, I was fourth in line reading the sign about 3 in line. So another clerk opens up and people not waiting in line walk up to him. Then Andrew opens his line (I'm third in line now) and he grabs a cart from someone who hadn't been waiting. Frustrating! I don't have issues with any of the employees , however I do have issues with the stockers. We have bought things that expired (and I've seen other people in a local Facebook group say the same) and TWICE NOW, I buy a drink in the section with the komboucha, I get sick. I don't know if it's Safeway or the truck that delivers to them, but somebody is not storing these correctly. When I got sick off of the strawberry wtrmln wtr (it's spelled that way) because it was expired, they left the others on the shelf when I returned a few days later to purchase a different flavor. I got sick from that one, which actually wasn't expired, I threw up (and I can count on one hand how many times I've thrown up in my life at 29). Fast forward to yesterday, my sister and I purchase the same komboucha, I was violently ill all night, throwing up like I never have in my life, and still pretty nauseous and unable to eat today. My sister told me this morning she was nauseous a little after me as well, and part of this morning . I have no doubt it has something to do with The drinks . I won't be buying anything else under these categories from Safeway. read more

I personally think this is by far the best grocery store in town. It is clean and perfectly organized. I go in knowing to start from the vegetables and fruit aisle then work my way to the bread section. The meat section has all kinds of fresh meat. Fry's is terrible. Everythin is so cluttered and there's all sorts of stuff in the way when you try to push your cart down the aisles. The meat products are not really good. It looks dirt too. read more

Pretty good selection of food at reasonable prices. We shop here for fresh fruit often and they seem to have the best selection in town with great prices on fresh fruit. The meat and seafood counter is always helpful with finding a good deal on fresh or frozen products. The olive bar is a good deal based on pricing. The customer service at this location is such a joke. I go to fry's unless I absolutely have to go here. One of the cashiers asked me if I found everything I was looking for. I told him yes, though I forgot my list at home so I may have forgot something. I was just having small conversation but he felt the need to sarcastically give me a lecture on the difference between finding what I was looking for and forgetting what I was looking for.
