I understand the frustration of others because this location is the one that every individual from Oakmont comes to-- because of that it can be EXTREMELY busy and the check out wait can be very long. It would be great if they could have more checkers but that's not really the staffs fault. It's more the fault of the corporation as a whole not allowing more positions in such a busy location. So although the wait can be long (especially during covid times) I think the staff does their best. However, I have been completely spoiled by grocery pick up. The website is easy to navigate, easy to order from, and 9 times out of 10 they have everything I need. The times they don't it's only been like one or two things they don't have stocked at that moment, and again--it's not their fault they're out of the product. They're always quite quick to bring everything out and load it into the trunk for me when I use the online order/pick up option (and you get to skip both waiting in and wondering the grocery store)-- and the staff is always so kind. They can't control how busy it is or if they're understaffed, so I'm not deducting a star for that. Overall it's a wonderful Safeway. read more

Now, it is very lovely. They keep everything in stock, and all the employees are 100% pleasant. What I dislike about Safeway is the number of solicitors and people begging for money, which makes me reluctant to visit. When I see people soliciting or asking for money, I often choose not to go in and instead go to Oliver's Market. Safeway customers just want to shop and leave without feeling harassed or constantly asked for money. now we're in 2026 and it's getting worse and worse. I literally will avoid Safeway because of this. , clean it up people just shop and go. read more

Once again I was overcharged at this Safeway. This was Friday afternoon. The ad for 97 cent avocados and mangoes was running since Wednesday. I had downloaded the coupon online. I was charged 97 cents for the mangoes but $1.99 each for the avocados. The quality of their produce when bn it is on sale is also sub par. Got a donut once and the oil tasted rancid. Check your receipt before you leave the store. read more

Ordered food to be delivered. Received without several bottles of wine. After 4 phone calls, being transferred twice and waiting on hold fot several minutes. It was determined driver left in his car. This is the WORST pharmacy in Sonoma Co. Horrible people; terrible customer service & DO NOT expect any help from them. I have to go thru Xmas in terrible pain because a medication that I take every month is "out of stock" so I can't get til Friday. Do they care??? HELL NO!! read more

First the good. Very clean and well stocked store. Conveniently located. Now the reality... this store is SUPER expensive. The employees are not very friendly. So I found another option close by. Everything costs at least $2 less and in many cases half the price Safeway charges. Even after clipping Safeways e-coupons, using their app and scanning the in store coupons... jumping thru all those hoops... Safeway is still more expensive. Corporate greed is running unchecked in this country right now. Companies like Safeway seem to be leading the charge. read more

We came here to stock up for the week while we were staying at a local Airbnb and I have to say this Safeway has a fantastic selection. Everything I was looking for and more was available here. Great selection of wine as expected too. Plenty of meat, dairy, fruit, and vegetable options. Lots of Safeway product options that I always love. The staff was welcoming and incredibly kind. We had one person who helped us (didn't get their name) who was very attentive when we needed help in the locked out sections. read more

Terrible there's very few employees that go above and beyond for customers but this specific employee it bothers him when customers ask for help. I had bought a item with a digital coupon which didn't show up and I paid full price. When I asked this specific employee he claimed I had used this coupon already which is why it wasn't showing up but that wasn't the case at all he just didn't want to lift a finger to help figure it out. read more

The check out clerk knew nothing about how to get so called sales prices other than telling me I had to have an app. As I went through the tedious process of downloading an app people in line behind me were getting angry. Shopping today March 26,2023. Artisan bread on top shelf of end aisle was solid mold, green and black with the plastic bag full of air and condensation water drops. I've never seen such a science experiment in the grocery store. Same aisle I'm looking for sliced cheese Lucerne brand cheddar--I looked at the package and it was covered in green mold too! I told the dairy worker about it and he went to check. I stopped shopping and went to the checkout and asked the checker how she was doing and she replied,"Really pretty bad!" I asked why and she said,"Because I have to work!" Whatever happened to small talk, doing your job the best you can, treating the customer respectfully and understanding that-- guess what? We all have to go to work for 50 years or so and there's harder jobs than the grocery store! All this plus a $165.00 bill for expired food. read more

I've shopped at Safeway for 50 years. But never at this location until 2024. I'm in Oakmont. This has to be the poorest managed store in Santa Rosa. They are ALWAYS out of stock on popular sale items, and the milk shelves are never fully stocked. We love Clover milk . Always empty shelf. The checkers are tolerable. The store is clean, but other grocery locations don't have the issues this Safeway does. Message to the manager; Get your act together. read more

This review is for the floral department. I LOVEEEEEEE IT HERE! They always have FRESH flowers and a variety to choose from. 1 DOZEN ROSES for $9.99. You can't beat that. There's always many different colors to choose from too. I came to this location to buy 2 dozen roses for a relative who lost her dad. I asked the florist (woman with short brown hair) (think her name was Jeanie)..her opinion on appropriate colors for someone who lost a loved one. I also asked her what she thought may pair well with the roses. SHE WAS SO KIND AND HELPFUL. She arranged the flowers for me and they looked beautiful! I was in awe! LOVED THEM. She tied them together with a huge ribbon. I should have took a picture but I was so busy that day, that I forgot... BIG THANKS TO JEANIE! I don't usually shop at this location, yet It's near my moms house, and when I visit her I like to surprise her with flowers sometimes. This is not the first time I've bought flowers from any Safeway, Yet I have to mention this location is my favorite to get flowers from. Need flowers? Go to Safeway on Calistoga. You won't be disappointed. I'm always highly satisfied. read more

WHATEVER HAPPENED TO GOOD CUSTOMER SERVICE AND WELL-TRAINED MANAGERS?!!! This store caters to a HUGE senior citizen population, which is an a-risk population for Covid. They had no cashiers with masks on this week. When I talked with the young manager, she was curt and argumentative and unsupportive!!! She kept telling me I was asking her to break the law by demanding cashiers wear masks, and she was doing everything she was 'allowed' to do. I had to explain to her 5 times that was not the case! No understanding, no listening skills, no empathy, no interest in being a leader!!! I was asking her to take some interest and initiative to look at the problem creatively! *Had she talked with corporate office about creative ways to serve this special population better? No. Had she checked to see if there was a way to have customers request a masked cashier? No. *Had she looked into creating a special checkout where there were more precautions and a sign for people who want more protection to use that lane? No. *Did they have a list of employees who were willing to wear masks if a customer requested it? No. And I am just brainstorming here - I don't work retail to know what the possibilities are! But I know she wasn't trying and she didn't care! Then, to rub salt into wounds, I told the bagger I would do it myself since she was also unmasked, and if looks could kill, I would never have made it out of the store! She threw my bags down, rolled her eyes at me, and stormed off, disgusted! Again, IS THIS WHAT SAFEWAY WANTS TO BE THEIR IMAGE DURING COVID, and the way they treat at-risk customers?!!! PLEASE - train this manager again!! read more

I don't know if I'll ever enter the grocery store again, trudging up and down the isles! This was so easy! Using the Safeway App this morning, I secured my pick up time as 2 PM today, filled my online cart, paid online, and all the discounts were applied as if I was there in person with my Safeway card. Via text, Safeway advises you the status of your order. I was notified to pick up my completed order any time after 2 PM till 8 PM tonight. I arrived, after 2 PM I let the store know I was parked I spot #1. The young man loading my groceries into the back of my car was so nice and friendly. This process is a great way for me to get groceries, using less time, as I'm also picking up the kids from school around this time. Arriving home, my order was complete and the ice cream is still frozen. Winning today! :-) read more

Has mostly everything I want and need. I wish they would carry Morning Star Pizza Buglers.

We have been customers and neighbors of the Safeway on Calistoga Road for the past 50 years. It seems that Safeway has contracted out its parking lot cleaning, and the work often starts late at night--sometimes as late as 10 or 11 PM. Last night, the cleaning took place at 2 AM, which was extremely disruptive and shows a lack of consideration for those living in the area. I plan to contact the store manager, and if the issue isn't addressed, I will file a complaint with the court. read more

Went to Starbucks on Sunday manorial weekend they got two very immature kids working there both girls were very rude to a Asian man and his son and was calling them stupid idiots behind their back just because they didn't order their drinks properly the man can hear them but ignored them because he had his son with him. It's so sad that Starbucks can't hire a more mature person to work there so I left and went to peats for my coffee and will never go back to Safeway again read more

They always have what I'm looking for in the store. The prices are definitely higher but nothing you can do

The pharmacy at this location has been on the decline for the past few years. Now we are dealing with longer lines, slower refills, & short staff. Yesterday I went to the pharmacy to pick up an order that my doctor said would be ready. I guess the clerk Nichole was having a bad day or had a bad interaction before I got there because to say she was rude and insensitive is an understatement. I could barely get a word in when she started ranting about no one told my doctor when the item would be ready. I asked what can we do to get this filled today and then she got defensive & told me there are many patients who have time sensitive needs, it's not just me, and sometimes they aren't stocked to accommodate. Very defensive and finger pointing blame when all I needed was answers so I could get what I need so that my surgery wouldn't be postponed. I feel Nichole would benefit from customer service training and learn how to talk to customers with care & respect. A lot of our Oakmont residents come here and I would hate for one of our elders to experience this type of hostile and unfortunate interaction. The pharmacy needs to have their issues fixed otherwise they will lose more customers. read more

This is one star for the bakery, which consistently shelves items which are past their expiration date. Today, I found a four-pack of bran muffins which were baked on March 14 and needed to be sold by March 19 or two days ago. I brought this to the attention of a bakery person who said, "We're human. We miss things." I then asked about selling bakery that is three, sometimes four days old. How can this be considered fresh bakery? Well, she said, as long as it's not past the expiration date, it's still fine and edible. Really??? Then I went to some other shelves near the store entrance that were promoting the muffin sale. I found not one or two, but eight packs of muffins that were still on the shelf two days past their expiration date. I took them back to show her and said, "What do you call this? I call it incompetence." She got annoyed and said the store should hire me as an inspector, that it would be a good job for me. Rude, inconsiderate, on top of having bakery shelves largely empty or stocked with bakery items baked two, three, four days before. This store has never been well run. Shelf management has been awful for years and now has clearly gotten worse. Except for the specials, I've stopped going to this store. For the most part I'm now doing my shopping at Wal Mart. Suggest you do the same. read more

My favorite Safeway in town for produce! Mark is one of my favorite employees that happens to work in produce! Very friendly and upbeat who makes an effort to engage with customers! I can't remember the lady's name in the floral department... but she was 1000% amazing! I was on my way to a funeral and wanted to get an orchid for a family member of the deceased and she put it together for me in less than 5 mins. She was engaging and more than sympathetic to the loss. I really appreciated her kind words. Lots of parking is available. The lines do get pretty jammed around 3pm -5pm so just be warned! read more

Extremely rude and unhelpful pharmacy tech, Safeway websites for vaccinations appointments wasn't working and I had some questions on a Saturday about walk-ins, she had a dead look in her eyes and just repeated over and over to go to website, seemed like she was intentionally being as clueless as she could be to someone who was genuinely trying to do the right thing, overall I'd give Safeway an F for handling Covid vaccinations and having a broken website. read more

It's incredibly frustrating to see how far down the crapper the entire Safeway Corporation has gone! I've had a long history with them is Sonoma County. My first husband started at Safeway in 1987 at 16 years old, he was a very hard worker. In those days, it was very difficult to get hired at Safeway, especially with a full-time position! Everyone he worked with had been career employees, some had been there 35+ years. The only way to get in, was if someone died or retired. The pay was great, the benefits were outstanding! Had 2 children at Kaiser, never paid more than $5 or $10 copay. Excellent dental & vision. My husband was not only one of the very last employees ever offered that coveted full-time status. He worked his butt off, became night-crew manager ( that was the only way to get that full-time status!) We bought our first home at 20 & 22 years old, in Healdsburg, with no assistance of any kind. I will admit though, we saw & felt the decline. Went from being a company that treated their employees like they mattered with bonuses, grocery discounts, & parties, oh the many, many parties, we even played on a Safeway baseball team to every time our contracts were up for negotiations, our Union dues increased & more way taken away, over & over. I watched most of the lucky older folks retire with nice retirement packages to watching them slowly run people out or into the ground. I worked in the local medical community for 33 years now. I have seen friends & prior employees have complete nervous breakdowns, including my husband. Which led to the complete disintegration of our marriage & home by 2003. Skip to 2022, every store is super understaffed, but the employees that are there ( most of them at least) are not properly trained, pay is so low, benefits are garbage or nonexistent! And they are only there to buy time & get paid. Can't get assistance & if you can, they are usually too new & inexperienced yet to know how to help, so they will soon stop caring & answering the calls for assistance just like the employees that taught them. From pulling expired, moldy foods off their shelves ( weird, back in the 80's & 90's, they had a full nightcrew staff that stocked & faced shelves all night long. You would never have found spoiled food, expired on the store shelves back then! Oh yes, now let's talk about their fabulous pharmacy services........so when they are short of staff or have no pharmacist on site, instead of letting customers know, or putting a recording on their recorder to explain anything, oh no! They just put you on perpetual hold. Every time the phone rings back, instead of answering or even asking to please hold, they just pick up & hold over & over. I am calling because it's been 3 days since my doctor called in meds & I still don't know if they are filled! Now I am angry because I am left with no alternative but to drive down, stand in line for 45 minutes, to be told they haven't bothered to fill any of them & I will have to wait or come back AGAIN!!! I look at their hours, says they close for lunch 1:15pm-2:15pm. I come back at 1:00pm, they are already frigging closed for lunch!!!!!! Nobody to talk to about it. So try to call again to leave a message, but the recorder can't take any messages I can't even begin to express how bad this entire corporate chain SUCKS ROYALLY!!!!!!!! My daughter went to work there, it was close to home, etc. She lasted 6 days!!!!! It was beyond ridiculous & unorganized!! So the guy that hired her was fired for sexual harassment & locked everyone out of their computer system. So my daughter could not access her time card or anything else! The rest of the asst managers were young, inexperienced, arrogant & just sat around texting her boyfriend instead of training, then my daughter was reprimanded for not knowing the system that nobody trained her on! But the topper was the evening she watched a guy fill up an entire grocery cart with over $700 worth of alcohol & pushed it right out the door. My daughter alerted 2 asst managers that were present but chitchatting & ignoring the situation. They literally shrugged their shoulders & said so what? We are not supposed to stop them. Really???? What clust-*$:! High ups making millions upon millions & doesn't put anything into the stores or employees for a very long time & it shows. For a business that used to Pride themselves on customer service............wow! The epitome of corporate greed & indifference!!! read more

Ran in yesterday to pick up some things for my daughter. I was just visiting but the store was extremely clean and organized. I found tons of stuff on sale. The staff that I interacted with were very friendly and helpful. I felt bad for the gentlemen at the self checkout as I had a bunch of stuff that was on clearance and not realizing that the poor employee would have to void each transaction and scan the sale price in I used the self checkout, had I known this I would have gone to a regular check stand. He was very helpful tho. I didn't catch his name but major kudos for being so patient with my crazy transaction. read more

As the last grocery store location on my way home from work I have been stopping at this particular Safeway for quite some time. I will admit, I have a love/hate relationship with it, but honestly most Safeways in the area fall into the same outcome for me. First off, parking can be quite tough as this Safeway sits in a small parking lot and shares this parking lot with many other shops (Bakeries, restaurants, salons, etc.). With that said, prime time traffic after five on the weekdays and during the weekends turns into a game of bumper cars. Thankfully I usually visit prior to the rush, so I usually do not run into too much trouble, but just a heads up. The store layout is pretty standard, but I'd suggest to anyone who is a regular at Safeway to utilize the Safeway app as it states which isles the food and or drink you are looking for is located on. This makes the shopping experience much smoother, but if you are a roamer, by all means roam on. Vegetables are hit and miss at this Safeway, sometimes good and sometimes bad, but that is a common theme with Safeway sadly. Deli is very pathetic here, very small and usually lacking service. I will say that most of the other staff are quite helpful though and will go the extra distance in assisting you with any questions. read more

This Safeway has been the anchor store in this shopping center since the early 1970's. This location got remodeled 8 years ago. Yeah it has a Starbucks coffee kiosk inside. This Safeway is ALWAYS more crowded than the other locations in Santa Rosa no matter the day of week or hour of the day. Waiting time at the cashiers seems to be double that of other locations. I half-heartedly endorse Safeway's practice of employing mentally challenged adults. My reservation at this location is the sheer number of slowly performing employees really does gum up the works. You will lose time as the bagger squashes your bread while he tops up the bag with your heavy cans, or another goof blocks your car from leaving with a line of shopping carts that he's struggling to maneuver thru the parking lot. I recommend that you drive 2 miles over to Oliver's in Rincon Valley. It's a better grocery shopping experience. Better quality food, nicer store, more efficient employees. read more

This Safeway tends to be the pit stop to or from Calistoga. Tho Santa Rosa&Calistoga are only 12 miles apart, Petrified Forest/Calistoga Road is so windy it feels at least twice as long. While much of the area has changed, this Safeway has not. It's always come across as shady place, with an oddly laid out parking lot. In terms of cleanliness and service, it varies. I go for non-perishable products that can last a long drive home (along with a fairly long checkout line) This Safeway looks like it's stuck in the 70s/early 80s. Back in the 80s, Safeway was touting itself as America's favorite grocery store. The Safeway on Calistoga Road has laid some eggs, so in time for Easter, there's this- https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OBs337ctTCY Santa Rosa has several Safeway stores, so they tend to mediocrity. I'd rather go to the 24 hour Napa one- it's even cleaned up. read more

This is my go to Safeway. If I need general grocery items, I will likely come here because it is convenient. Parking can be a challenge. The lot is strangely designed. Product selection seems decent. First, I want to acknowledge the extremely helpful Safeway employees, Alfonso in the Deli Section, and Tammy in self-checkout. I shop at this store often, and my complaint is usually that their berries sometimes go bad in a day or two (without any way of knowing), and things like pico de gallo are often 1 day away from expiry. People in the store are helpful and apologetic, but when I take the complaint to corporate (Albertons), it takes weeks to get a meaningless response. The latest complaint is that Safeway has a two-tiered discount system, one a members discount, and another an e-coupon code thing. Unfortunately, the store has terrible wifi access, so one can't activate the e-coupon within the store. This results in getting to checkout with the expected discount, then not being able to get it (and these discounts are often sizeable...about ten dollars on two items today). Many seniors shop at this store, at its a confusing ordeal. As some have noted, nearby Oliver's has much better bread and produce, not really that much higher priced on some items. Also, many common items are under lock and key (notably batteries), and it take forever to get an attendant. The self-checkout people are a saving grace, often letting us buy alcohol if we ring up separately with them, saving time and hassles. read more
