Sometimes I wonder if people just come on Yelp to complain about standard establishments like gas stations and grocery stores. It's a Safeway. It has food. It was well stocked for all we wanted to take up to Crested Butte for a weekend of skiing. Bought our produce, lunch and breakfast items and headed out. The workers were really nice! No complaints from us out-of-towners since we got things much cheaper than at the ski town! read more

Went into the store on July 27th 2024. It's going to buy some soda for my family as we are headed back to our home in berthoud Colorado. I'll examining the sodas I noticed that there was a bunch on sale for $2.99 to six pack. By the signage I knew I had to buy two so I did and I went up to the checkout after I downloaded the digital coupon on my phone. I went round and round with an older gentleman who was the cashier that I'd never seen in there before. I told him the signs said $2.99 if you buy two with the digital coupon. He couldn't figure out how to do it and just kept looking in the newspaper advertisement and said it's just not here after waiting in line and holding up the line for about 5 minutes I said forget about it I'll just put it back and I did. Alert for Salida shoppers. The entry door to the store is still broken. The left entry door has been strapped open, for weeks now. This morning I entered the door, expecting the door to be strapped open but the strap was broken and as I entered the door, which was facing outward to the parking lot, it swung inward as I passed it, hitting my hand from behind. My daughter and I stopped here to grab some vacation snacks to have in our hotel room while on our 4 day trip in Salida. We went around the store and got a few things and went to check out. I didn't have a Safeway membership but signing up for one took less than a minute; all I had to do was enter my phone number and voila, I had like $10 in savings. The cashier was super nice and genuinely looked happy. He also checked us out when we went in a second time later on in the week. I had a great experience here and would go back again. read more

No one is ever at customer service - your better off waiting on line with one of the cashiers if you want to get a workers attention or the self check out line. Doesn't have sushi like other Safeway's I've spotted, a bit smaller and doesn't have the biggest variety for vegans but overall was able to get basic supplies & food! read more

Safeway Salida CO 5;05 pm Attempting to check out in the self checkout line. The bar code reader is very slow. I'm moving at a normal speed. The reader locks up and contacts the manger. The manager assume I am stupid and don't know how the checkout kiosks works. (I worked for the company that invented the first checkout kiosks. NCR.) The manager gives me a lecture on how to use it and in the end tell me not to come back to HIS store. Okay I won't. I've already told the story to 5 other people, suggesting they boycott the store. This is particularly about the Safeway "Just for you" digital coupons. For some reason withe Salida as home store the coupons don'I register on their app until data late and often never. The sale items are often unavailable. Today eggs and Starbucks. Poor supervision and ordering. read more

Great local grocery. Produce is always great with better longevity than Walmart. Due to tourism there are shortages at times, shop early after deliveries or ask someone when they will receive more. Staff is very helpful. Busy times understandably different. Have to understand this is a town of 5,000 that more than doubles a lot of weekends. They staff as much as possible but as others during COVID recovery they have shortages. Super store. read more

I gave Safeway in Salida zero Stars because it was absolutely terrible customer service at the customer service desk. I was told by not one but two employees that I could not cash my Western Union money order there whenever clearly it is posted online as a place that will cash it because they do Western Union I was also even told that Walmart here in town would not cash it even though thankfully their customer service department knows what they're doing. read more

Everything about this Salida Safeway store (with the exception of some nice employees) is so poor it is sometimes hard to believe. EVERYONE in Salida knows it, and agree. Where the "flower and daisy" reviews come from I can only imagine. Ask anyone in town: this store never has consistent merchandise, never staffed properly, and the pharmacy (no fault of the staff) will make you happy to pay more and go anywhere else. Long lines, hard to connect on the phone, cant leave a message.... This business only survives because of its location and a lack of decent competition. If City Market comes to town, Safeway will either close their doors, or will do an amazing remodel and give you a beautiful, property staffed and merchandised store (because Safeway cares THAT much) so they dont go under. This store is neglected. Dont take my word for it....ask ANYONE in Salida. read more

This Safeway sucks. The so called manger is never at the service desk and when she is in store, witch is rare, she is hiding out in the back office. They will not Refund anything because they do not want to take the time. A shelf fell on me once and they were just like oh well. Most of the staff is rude especially the manager. I even went as far as making a complaint about the manager. If someone needed help at the service desk no one would be there. read more

Great grocery store. Lots of choices. The Starbucks is a nice addition. We came to Salida on vacation and to ski at Monarch. It was wonderful to buy all the groceries we needed at Safeway. Produce section was fresh and had good choices. The Avocado and pineapple were excellent. All of the food was great. read more

Diedre is the best. She always remembers us and makes a point to say hello. She seems to be in a good mood everyday and always brings a smile to our face. I'm glad she'll be in floral now! Dear Safeway Salida, I reminisce of warm September days and my return to town from two weeks on the trail, walking from highway 50 towards G Street. The back of my t-shirt damp with hot sweat from carrying my loaded pack when I stride through your welcoming, automatic doors towards isles of cold fresh food. Indoors, the light is much softer than the Southern Colorado desert sun to which I have become accustomed. After a few moments in which my pupils seem confused, the room brightens in front of me and my gaze settles on a pyramid of bright, gleaming, red apples stacked several feet high. An apple is one of my favorite foods and I have not had fresh fruit in days. My heart flutters with the extra pulse often reserved for the female passerby with good looks and an ability to carry herself in a way that emanates both intelligence and grace. I should plan and buy groceries for the next few days but my anxious excitement prevents me from fulfilling anything more than my immediate desires. After loading several of your beautiful apples into a basket, I head for the yogurt section. Dairy. Another thing for which I have longed throughout the past two weeks spent on the trail. Few stores carry both plain and honey, my two favorite flavors of Noosa but you, Safeway Salida, seem to know me so well. Yogurt and apples in hand, I pass easily through the checkout and take up residence in a chair within the front lounge. Dropping my pack to the floor allows relief to flood through my sore body and the sight of good food lets me do nothing but smile. I plug my phone into one of the numerous outlets, hopeful for its screen to flash back to life and allow me to reconnect with friends back home. As my phone charges and body relaxes I bite into the first crisp apple, it's flesh cool from your air conditioning. The blue Colorado sky and Mt. Shavano visible through your big picture windows, I begin to relax. Happy to be back to creature comforts but glad to be reminded that Mother Earth and her incredible Rocky Mountains are just steps away. Don't bother trying to call, they don't answer their phone. I have called 6 times during day hours and nobody answers!! I finally called the pharmacy line and they sent me thru to customer service who then put me on hold until the line disconnected. NOT HAPPY!!! read more

I have been a loyal customer for 3 years, but after the way I was treated today at the check out stand all I can say is: Natural Grocers can't open soon enough. He checked out the groceries and started ringing up the next person when I asked him to package my groceries he said really? you can't do it yourself? and then he kept muttering about "some people". I could not reach the store by phone, but I have put a complaints into customer service. read more

I was in Safeway Deli on 10-23-17. The person working in the deli ignored 4 customers while he boxed up chicken. Two of the 3 customers walked off then I walk off. When I came back to the Deli the lady that was waiting was still there. A manager came up and tried to give the lady a coupon she was as mad as I was. I went to the manager and affirmed what the lady was saying and the manager tried to give me a coupon also. The deli person was still ignoring the customers. I told the manager he was still not helping anyone. I told the manager that I was going to Walmart and that I hate going there. She should have got behind the counter and started helping. I left my basket and walked out. This should never happen. read more

This is not just any other grocery store. This Safeway should be considered a basecamp for all adventures taking off from the Arkansas River Valley. When I imagine my next trip to Colorado, a visit to the Safeway in downtown Salida is at the top of my list, right below a long hike and an afternoon paddling down the river. They carry all the food and treats you spend hours dreaming about when you've been out on the trail and have run out of snacks. The pharmacy will get you set up with the drugs you need after drinking a little too much giardia-laden water. There is even a spacious sitting area next to the Starbucks with wifi. If that can't entertain you, sometimes there are interesting conversations to eavesdrop on. The Safeway is truly a great place to spend time, it will make your mountain town experience complete. read more

I have bit my tongue a LONG time in hopes that the situation at this store would improve, but it hasn't. So, here goes: If you want to see the most unhappy and unprofessional group of people in Chaffee County, go here. I try to NOT shop here, but as it is close to where I live, sometimes I do, and I'm disgusted every single time. I have tried to give them the benefit of doubt (everyone has a bad day now & then), but I refuse to subject myself to this anymore. Not only are there never enough checkers, when you do finally get to the checker, prepare yourself to hear MASSIVE amounts of whining accompanied by things being slammed around and THROWN in anger. This has happened more times than I can count, not only to me, but to every single person I stood in line with. The cashiers (ALL of them!) do not hesitate to complain to you about their bosses, their break times, their fellow employees, paychecks, etc. (the short, large woman with red hair is the worst of all of them - she SERIOUSLY needs some anger management counseling). These types of venting need to STAY IN THE BREAK ROOM, or better yet, voiced to management - NOT to the customer. SOMEBODY IN MANAGEMENT NEEDS TO TRAIN THESE PEOPLE ON HOW TO INTERACT WITH THE PUBLIC IN A PROFESSIONAL, RESPECTABLE MANNER, AND IF THEY CAN'T BE TRAINED, THEY NEED TO BE FIRED. These people make the whole experience stressful and extremely uncomfortable for the customer. Why isn't this being addressed by management?! The employees are acting like this regularly, blatantly and LOUDLY. There is no way management can be unaware of this. If these people worked for me, I would have fired about 90% of them long ago! I'd rather crawl on broken glass to Walmart, than drive a few blocks to this place. I will not return and will encourage others who are just as frustrated as me not to, as well. read more
