    Frozen seafood
    Becca B.

This place was huge! It has a long counter of fresh meat priced by the pound including: beef, pork, poultry and seafood. In the back there is a massive freezer of meats, and another freezer full of seafood items. They also had a large selection of pantry items and specialty canned goods and condiments. Some were made in-house and many products were from companies around Colorado. Lastly they had a large cooler dedicated to dairy, every kind of cheese you can think of. When in Salida, don't skip out on Scanga!

Our experience at Meat & Cheese in Aspen was disappointing from beginning to end…read more To start with, the food was mediocre in every sense. The quality did not justify the prices, the flavors were forgettable, and nothing we ordered stood out. Unfortunately, what happened afterward was far worse. My wife accidentally left behind a shopping bag containing a brand new pair of sunglasses she had purchased earlier that day. When she returned to retrieve them, our interaction with a server named Carson was deeply disappointing. Instead of simply confirming ownership in a courteous and professional manner, Carson repeatedly questioned whether the sunglasses were actually hers. He kept emphasizing that they were brand new and worth around $600, making it clear that he found it difficult to believe they belonged to her. It was impossible not to feel that she was being judged based solely on her appearance. There is absolutely nothing wrong with verifying ownership of a valuable item. In fact, we appreciate businesses that take lost property seriously. What is unacceptable is allowing assumptions and stereotypes to influence how customers are treated. One lesson worth remembering is that genuine elegance and long established wealth rarely need to announce themselves. Those who have had the privilege of success across generations often feel no need to advertise it with designer logos or outward displays. True class is reflected in education, humility, confidence, and, above all, in the way people treat others. Ironically, Carson's assumptions said far more about his own judgment than they did about my wife. No customer should ever be made to feel that they need to "look wealthy" in order to be treated with respect. We hope management addresses this issue seriously. The mediocre food was forgettable. Being judged and treated with prejudice is not. Every guest deserves to be treated with courtesy, professionalism, and dignity, regardless of how they are dressed or what assumptions someone chooses to make about them.

We used to buffalo gals for our wedding and food was great. Just a few points of miscommunication that caused a bit of unnecessary stress on my wedding day is why the loss of a stars. We were told that the one guest who was celiac and one guest who was vegetarian were going to have a plated meal to prevent risk of cross contamination and would ensure they had their food. We were told not to stress as they would be plated and given to the guests as they were given the guests names and could work with the seating chart. I noticed that the guest who was vegetarian was only eating sides so I had asked and she said she didn't know there was a separate meal. the celiac guest who luckily got to go through the buffet first did not have issues as she did get to go first but could've caused severe outcomes for her if she did have cross contamination. After talking with catering staff onsite they said they were told that the guest has to ask for it which was complete opposite of what was originally communicated, and they were deeply sorry. So just miscommunication with one that actually could've caused permanent harm if she had ingested gluten. We also paid an additional fee for grilling to be onsite, due to fire ban that was unable to occur. We understand that is not within our control but no where in the contract does it say that it is not refundable, so they just held onto that fee even though they didn't provide the service. When asked about the refund I was told the fee was for the tri-tip to be cooked on a specific grill but nowhere does that say that in our contract and was NEVER communicated - because if it was not onsite we were told the way it was cooked was the same - we thought we really were just paying for the experience of it being onsite. So biggest tip for anyone going through them is get everything in writing with clear communication and clarification, because without that they don't care to help.

Everywhere I go, I will be looking for a place such as this to get my food. Basically Burmac is a food overstock reseller--I guess. Most of what they sell appears to be bought from restaurants. You see big tubs of food-service Ranch dressing with say the "Chili's" logo. Big non-descript brown paper bags of frozen fries--FOR 50 CENTS. Regularly available stuff: cheap frozen seafood, frozen meats, canned goods (e.g. a quart can of chopped clams for $2.50), spices in bulk, frozen veg, gallon cans of beans, tomatoes, fruit, etc, huge bags of rice. They also have a small produce room that can yield some great deals on tomatoes, lettuce, avocados, cabbage, whatever. Not usually much fruit for whatever reason. They rotate sales such as "75% off all frozen items". If you're scared by the fact that everything looks like it fell off a truck, don't shop here. Go to Safeway and get ripped off or go to WalMart and save 30 cents. Or go to Burmac and eat like a king for nothing.
