Tulips from Safeway
Lena M.

This Safeway has been an incredible stop for things I've forgotten on my trip. It's been nice for snacks as well as toiletries. We're visiting from out of town and while things aren't cheap, Safeway has been an affordable option. We are here for a little birthday trip. My fiancé bought me some gorgeous tulips from here that have elevated the entire trip. Their flower selection here is so beautiful. And a really great price too. It's a big grocery with lots of options. We tried going to the hot bar the other night for dinner, but it seemed to have closed before 8pm. That being said, it was Easter so it makes sense. I'd recommend coming here.

This is my go to grocer, it's smack dab in the middle of our community. They are always welcoming and the produce fresh.

This Safeway has always served this town well. It's too bad that about 20 years ago. The city decided not to let them expand because we all suffer for it. If Safeway had more square footage, they would have a better selection. They do pretty darn good for such a small. The staff is really nice. Some of them are real characters. One guy will even sing while you're in line. Makes excellent sandwiches for half the price of some of the other places in town

Do NOT buy the Safeway brand Sauerkraut! It's the most God Awful thing you will ever eat. How can you screw up Sauerkraut?"

This place is okay, it's just like any other Safeway, just more crowded, understaffed, and loud. There where like three lanes open, with lines of 5 people or more, clearly they don't have enough employees. I think there's something with the automatic doors though, as I was walking through with my grandfather, the door randomly decided to close WHILE HE WAS GOING THROUGH. Later, We got a six pack of coke, and we found out one of the bottles was leaking, I have a feeling that was because of their shipping department.

Behold? The worst selection of beer anywhere. 1/3 IPAs, 2/3 cheap lagers. Terrible.

So there we were, finished our dinner, just checked into the motel, checked out the patio, decided…read morewe needed to have some wine and enjoy that patio. The problem is, it's a Sunday night and the streets look like they're rolling up quickly. it's 7:58 PM, what are we to do? We get in the car and head down to sunshine foods. It's now 8:04 PM and the place is looking empty. We bump into one of the employees on the outside of the store and he tells me they'll open up for us. In a world where it would've been really easy just to say we're closed, he chose a more uncommon route. They let us in. We bought water and wine as they patiently waited for us to review their massive inventory of Wine. The moral of the story is, kindness counts, and karma is a good thing. They were good to us, and we truly appreciated it. We also appreciated the pint of Ben & Jerry's, the water we bought, and the bottle of Frog's Leep Zinfandel.

I was excited to see that they had a Full Service Deli Counter with a wide array of meats, cheeses, and breads to build a custom sandwich. They also had Specialty Sandwich Menu with ~20 different options. I ended up ordering the Old Fashioned Meatloaf Sandwich ($13.99), which was delicious and filling... well worth the price considering the size/quality. While I was waiting for my sandwich to be made, to perused the rest of the store. I was so tempted to grab more items, but knew the perishables wouldn't last on my car ride home. I would definitely recommend coming here if you are planning a picnic in the area!

I recently stopped by the St Helena Farmer's Market while traveling between Clear Lake State Park…read moreand Brannan Island State Park. (To be real, I wanted a burger from Gott's, but they weren't open yet.) The market was on the smaller side, with maybe about twenty active booths. It was much smaller than the farmers markets I'm used to in the Sacramento area, but much larger than the 4-booth market in Yosemite Valley. The best decision I made was ordering a ham and Swiss croissant from the pastry booth. Sadly, I don't remember the name of the booth, but it was the best croissant I've ever had in my life. (I think it was West Won Bread, unless it was Patisserie Angelica Sebastopol.) A slightly less wise decision was ordering the strawberry shortcake from the cooking school. The student, who did not give off any kind of competent vibe, whispered to the order-taker, "How do I make that?" She quickly recited, "biscuit, whipped cream, lemon curd, berries." I mean, the photo really speaks for itself. There was less than like two tablespoons worth of chopped berries, and the top of the biscuit was not covered in curd. The flavor was all there, but the presentation and portion sizes were not. Then again, this was a cooking school, so maybe some mistakes are to be expected. I wouldn't have ordered from them if I wasn't willing to take the risk. Even though this is a small market, the quality of the vendors is on the supremely artisan side. Definitely worth stopping by for a bite to eat if you're in the area. (Also a great brunch option.)
