We rarely shop this store anymore because we prefer another Safeway closer to our home. However, that store didn't have a brisket flat--or any brisket--which is what I was in the market (literally) for. Anyway this 5-star rating is for the butcher who not only was extremely friendly and helpful but gave me some info I'd never heard or read elsewhere. All we remember was that he was tall, had blondish-brown hair and wore glasses. I usually smoke my own beef jerky using sliced top round 'London Broil", and I smoke my own bacon from sliced pork belly. This wonderful butcher told me that he knows folks who not only make smoked beef jerky from brisket but make bacon from the point or the round. Ironically, he didn't own a smoker so he at times he confused the two parts of a beef brisket (and confused me as well). But it was all knowledge I didn't have before and it also gave me summer project to schedule. He also asked me to come back and tell him how the bacon turned out after it's done. Darn but I wish I'd have asked him his name. But the most important thing was that he handed me a gorgeous brisket flat at the weight I'd requested. Anyway, great customer service with added value always rates five stars with me. We may not shop that Safeway again for awhile but I will be going back to the meat department to find that butcher and give him a sample of my handiwork. And yes, I'll buy more meat from him. He's an example of what I've always maintained: make friends with a butcher in the meat department. You'll always get service above and beyond because in the end, it motivates you to buy more meat. I've amended this to also include making friends with a produce manager or clerk, and become really good chums with at least one cashier. Because I've made a point of the latter, checkout time is party time for my wife and I and our favorite cashiers. And that actually makes grocery shopping fun. read more

I mainly shop at their sister property, but I do go here for other items, and I have to say that the store is always extremely clean and the staff is very pleasant. It is often very difficult to find some thing and when you do find out it's great because the prices are currently good but the next time you go in to replenish your supply, they don't carry it anymore and that's a huge drawback. Did you carry a nice variety of food items? Of course it's a grocery store and I have to say I do like their produce department they do have quite a large selection, and it always appears very fresh. We visited this Safeway twice during our stay in Port Orchard. My membership from Hawaii worked fine here when checking out. Groceries are so much more cheaper here even with the 9% tax. There is a Starbucks right at the entrance. They had lots of grande pink lemonade tumblers for sale too. There are lots of Seahawks and Kraken merch for purchase. I didn't encounter any workers and again utilized the self checkout as we were always on the go. So those were definitely useful! read more

Bought gas here. I usually over pay to make sure I have enough gas & if I'm under I get the cash back. Not so Saturday 1 March 2024 at 14:30. Employee refused to give me my cash back & told me the only way I'd get change was to put it back on my card. This is the first time that happened! That takes forever to get credited back to my account & he seemed to very much enjoy inconveniencing me. That annoyed me more than not getting cash back. Never getting gas here again. read more

"Aiden" states to come back after 2:00 pm we checked the store hours and it states 09:00- 13:30 I checked in with the pharmacy at 12:56 and they said to waited till after 14:00 so they can take there "lunch break" pharmacies tech " Aiden" so he said's. Safeway Port Orchard: I've never seen an employer who gets away with treating there employees the way this store does and still be successful! My girlfriend works here and she always does more than most others in her department and she gets scolded for trying to help out a customer whose order was not done correctly because Safeway got the order all wrong. This happened in the bakery and so they had to decorate this cake while customer was waiting. The customer ordered cake a couple weeks ago and it still wasn't ready because the store didn't get correct date that she wanted to pick it up. Now the lady has all this time wasted while waiting for decorations and now she running late to where the cake was suppose to be delivered. My girlfriend is trying to keep this gal calmed down while she is waiting. My girlfriend knows she's going to have work harder to catch up on her other duties! My girlfriend gets reprimanded for customer service because the director says she is talking to long!! My girlfriend will skip her breaks because they don't care enough about there employees to give them enough time for all the breaks. Safeway has safety issues that have been complained about and they just ignore them. Just one for instance there walk in freezer has no lighting so while trying to move food around with flashlights. Oh correction it was only out for a day. That's enough venting. The Employees that I've seen at Safeway try really hard to be customer friendly and bend over backwards to keep people happy when management treats them with no respect. There are no incentives for employees to do more. I always found the better you treat your employees the better attitude everyone has trickles down and to the customers the life blood of any buisiness. It wasn't until today that it dawned on me to write a yelp review. This afternoon I went to pick up my ready RX, and was waiting for a consult from the pharmacist, who was backed up because he was giving vaccines....... That randomly Ryan, one of the pharmacist walked by (CLEARLY ON HIS OFF TIME) and gave me a consult so I didn't have to wait. I had my 18 month old daughter with me, and I SO appreciated that. I did the order online and pickup service for this store and will never ever do it again. I placed my order the night before to pick it up at 2 pm the next day, but I had til 8 to pick up the order. I got there at 6' pm, let them know I was there and then sat for 20 minutes waiting for an order that wasn't ready Even though their app said it was. I then went into the store and waited even longer for someone to help me, I told them I hadn't received my order yet. The lady helping me, walked away and then came back telling me to get a cart. On top of the rude attitude she gave, I then waited another ten minutes for the order to be complete. With how the whole experience went I would have been better off shopping myself with how long it took, I would also not have to deal with extremely rude service. The people who work at this Safeway are top notch. They are always so friendly and willing to help out. The checkers make great conversation and are quick with things like produce. The shelves are usually pretty well stocked and there's decent sales that go on here. They support the local community and you'll find little sales of things going on outside to raise money. The man in front of me was returning Orange juice because he had been over charged by two dollars, and was being rather aggressive. I was going to give 3 stars but I decided 4 stars because of its convenience and friendly/helpful staff. It is convenient because it's very close to where I live and it satisfies most if not all of our grocery needs. If we need more of a particular product or something that's not available in Safeway, then we go to Costco in Silverdale. On Valentine's Day, I was looking for a vase for the flowers I bought for my wife. A friendly person came up to me and not only showed me where the vases were located but also made recommendations on selections. I experienced Safeway in Port Orchard one last time today. Never, again, will I shop there and be treated the way I was today. After a weekend with the flu, I braved the 60s to get out and pick up a few heat and serve items and a sandwich. As I have done numerous times before, I stopped at the Big Lots and picked up a few additional items before heading next door. These items were placed in a recyclable bag, top tied, receipt on top. Last stop before checking out was getting a board sandwich from the not busy deli area. The clerk had to have my turkey, bacon, avocado sandwich add lettuce and tomato repeated more than once. All inclusive to the sandwich board. He assembled the sandwich without the avocado and took it apart to add it after the fact clearly annoyed when I mentioned it. He did not attempt to heat the cold bacon. He said it didn't need to be. Only if I wanted a decent sandwich, so I asked him to. He put in on a microwave tray with no liner of any kind, slapped it on the sandwich rolled it in the paper wrap not even bothering to cut it in half or placing the price tab securely to keep it wrapped up. Dirty knives, mayo9?) encrusted were used to spread ranch dressing and to cut the sandwich. Both put back in the dirty water containers they were removed from. Anyone can get a food card. Cross contamination with two dirty knives with mayo/ranch dressing on them, not getting clean knives for my sandwich or next customer, directly putting protein on a microwave tray that was returned unclean to the oven, not what I learned in sanitation class when I spent two years in culinary school. Customer service skills? ZERO. As I went to check out, a cashier asked me to get in her line. I emptied out the top portion of the cart, placed my recyclable bag by my items when a cashier at the next register asked me if I wanted her to "empty" the bottom bag. It remained tied with the receipt on top. I said no, they were not purchased at Safeway. By this time there were people in line. My cashier then looked at me oddly and asked for a receipt for the items in the lower bag purchased at Big Lots. I showed her the receipt, complained about the sandwich and making an issue out of the bag in the lower part of my cart. Surely, my 3 carat diamond ring, platinum watch and designer clothes were not an indication that I was a shoplifter. It was embarrassing and uncalled for and not the first time I've brought a bag from another store into their store. In the 12 times I have shopped there this has never happened. I hope this doesn't happen to anyone else. It won't happen to me, again, because I am not going back. I can spend my money elsewhere. This seasoned shopper knows when and where to shop and when not to return to a store that has poor customer service. You are only as good as your customer service. Safe scored NONE today. Respect should not be optional. read more

This store is in a bit nicer area. Not great but nicer than the Bremerton store. The one thing I don't like about this store is many of the products I have found to be almost expired. I was buying BBQ sauce and when I found the date on several bottles one was going to be expired in less than a month. I brought this to the attention of an employee they they didn't think it was a problem. So I do believe they have a problem with employees not caring there and their four you better check the quality before you buy. I found almost expired date also on mayonnaise too. read more

When this place was open I loved shopping here it has now been sold /converted to a Haggens and the prices have gone up. Bummer. Many of the old employees stayed but there are new ones I don't recognize in there now. The overall feel of the store is a less cluttered appearance - a much cleaner and more simple style. I do miss our old Safeway. I have heard that Haggens pays thier employees better than Safeway did so that I do like. I am giving the 5 stars to the old Safeway that was here. read more

Decent organic produce, some prices are lower than Fred Meyer. Shelves are always stocked. BUT I don't like shopping here because they never seem to staff the checkout lanes. The safeway bakery (Kelly) saved my baby shower today. After ordering cupcakes from Walmart a week ago I went to pick them up and realized they were not decorated at all because they didn't have the motif that I ordered over a week ago. I called the safeway bakery and she let me bring in the cupcakes and decorated them beautifully with exactly what I wanted. I didn't realize until much later that she didn't give me ANY change at all.
