We stopped at this Safeway location while visiting the area. It's an older building & a smaller store. Each time we stopped by during our 10 day visit to the area it seemed to be lacking in stocked shelves, fresh fruits & vegetables & the bread section was really picked over. We had minimal contact with employees as they seemed to be extremely busy all the time (maybe staffing issues, more common than not lately) we all dedicated Safeway/Albertson shoppers as 2 of our daughters have been employed by different locations throughout the years. I found a note I wrote myself a year ago to leave a review for the incredible Josie in the floral department -- I have no idea if she is still there 15 months later, but she helped make my mother-in-laws 70th birthday so special last summer!! We were all coming from out of town and Josie was so kind and helpful on the phone while I devised a plan to retrieve my things without the birthday girl catching on. The safeway in pinetop az I needed two dozen red roses for a prize for a golf tournament. I went to Safeway Saturday pre-ordered left my name my phone number and all the information. While it's a smaller, older Safeway, it still had everything we needed and a pretty decent selection of prepared food and bakery items. There are no self check outs but they had several lines open and our cashier was super nice. They even have a Starbucks kiosk inside. The biggest downside for me was that despite having a "masks required" policy and signage all over, I saw several people without masks - including an employee who had his hanging off his ear while talking to another person who was mask-less. To be clear.... I hate Safeway, always have and always will. However, they have good people there...and I damn sure need to acknowledge Janet in the floral department for being awesome! Unexpected death in the family Friday afternoon brought a super fast "celebration of life", on a Sunday! Google said the local florist was open Sunday at 9am, so I was there at 9:15. Google was wrong, and I am now sitting in the parking lot with an empty glass vase...and the celebration in less than 3 hours. Safeway was my only option up here. Thankfully Janet was there, and all I could do was plea my case that I need something spectacular... really friggin quick. Didn't care about the cost, just needed this large vase brought to life with color. She nailed it! Screw the local florist...it was absolutely stunning. Safeway as a whole charges the consumer to much...but pays their people very little. Their priority has always been profit, but people like Janet are the reason they have any success at all. My review is for the Deli. We went to this store yesterday, July 21. The deli area was not crowded. The clerk. A gal in her 20s. Was the rudest excuse of customer service I have encountered. Asked I'd we were next. Told her yes as we were the only ones there...she asked again if we were next.. Told her what wanted in cheese. Package marked horseradish cheese. But we got a lb of white American. Didn't realize til home. She slapped the cheese on counter..never thank, good day, nothing. Was a quick stop in the morning after grabbing our breakfast from a restaurant in the same area. They have Starbucks inside and for which we went here. Long queue and other was enough wait time to get our coffee. Ended up buying some snacks & beers as well from Safeway and for that, it was a quick checkout. In for the weekend, did our shopping here. Had everything we needed. However I had to comeback and exchanged a couple of items since they were past the expiration date. I get it, there is a lot of items in the store and a lot to expect them to go over their products from time to time. However, this was for my 1yr old grandson. When I returned the items for exchange, Safeway was very understanding and apologetic. Basically they were embarrassed. For that reason, I gave them an extra star and not just a one. For a small town, this Safeway stays well stocked with lots of fresh options (other than fish!) Friendly cashiers, and convenient self check out available. Kudos to the deli staff for going out of their way to go to the back and get a fresh rotisserie chicken when I asked. They saved me a much longer ride to a drug store. The wife's allergies were bothering her and she had runout of her Xyzal. We were here on an impromptu visit after a family visit in Dallas. Other than being overcrowded in tight isles, the store is okay. The one negative that continues to stand out for us are the chicken tenders. They are so over-cooked, we can hardly chew them. This store is so depressing. It is dark, dingy and it is not enjoyable to shop there. The ceilings are low. The floors are ugly and need replacing. The whole place needs remodeling, but it won't be done because it does such great business. We are limited where we can shop in such a small town, so we have no options. Therefore, it will never be remodeled. The lines are very long, especially on the weekends, and the checkers take their time. There is a decent selection of fresh fruit and vegetables. However, I despise shopping there because of the condition of the sto I have a house in PINETOP and I'm there for three months in the summer, so I'm not exactly an out-of-towner. AND I still despise this Safeway. It's just really depressing shopping there because of the condition of the store. Meat department is awesome. Especially the closers, they are the best! Never too busy to stop and help customers.

Their pharmacy department is amazing. They are so kind and honestly the only ones willing to help. We went to two other pharmacies before them and were treated horribly. I can't thank them enough for how they treated us and were so willing to help. read more

We are vacationing up in Pinetop Arizona and decided to get our groceries at Safeway while we are here. Location Hwy 260 & Billy Creek Road. We spent $85.80 so not just a few items. We had to return one item and we also had a question about if there was a reason we didn't get the digital price on four other items we purchased. Safeway in Phoenix where we live is where we purchase the majority of our groceries weekly. Carol at customer service was very nasty towards us because we didn't know we needed to change our zip code on our Safeway app. She said that all customers coming into "her" Safeway from out of town wanted everything for free. Carol also stated that their managers only give them two cashier's at a time. This was embarrassing to us as several other customers behind us heard everything she said. Carol told us a little bit more than we needed to hear about other customers even one that punched her in the face. This incident will not stop us from shopping at our local Safeway stores. read more

Yesterday when I tried to scan the Just For You bar code in a sale item, the Safeway app said it was currently out of service. When I showed the cashier the message on the so, she said she was not allowed to honor the sale price when the app wasn't working and I would have to pay full price. What???? Every time I go to this store, I wish for another grocery store option. Unless it's on sale everything is very overpriced and even the sale items are usually cheaper at Walmart. We only go there to pick up an item or two. Often the sale items don't ring up on sale. I just had to return to the store because the item didn't ring up on sale. The woman at customer service barely spoke and didn't even apologize that I had to return to the store to collect my $3 savings. Many of the employees have zero customer service skills. Being shadowed by loss prevention, Im a retired Veteran with ptsd and this was a horrible experience. They were so obvious they all need retraining or fired. I would say the latter as they were nuisances while shopping even practically bumping into my fiancée who is legally blind with her service dog, and was disrespectful not even apologizing. Vacationed to Pinetop for snowboarding. After a long drive we decided to stop in for the weekends groceries and beer. We were reviewing the selection of beer when we had an employee stop and stare at us then ask if we were old enough. All of us are 22 and 23. At all times an employee was following us or keeping an eye on us. If we weren't so exhausted from driving hours we would have gone to a different store. Extremely unwelcoming. Safeway sucks! The only reason I go there is because we only have Walmart and Safeway2 in this small mountain town. Last time I had 3 items that rang up incorrect. I got almost $8 back. In the summer a lot of items are completely gone because they don't allow for the extra 25k people that summer up here. They should know what items they need to order more of. I have not been able to get tonic water in 6 weeks. Last week the deli was out of turkey. What kind of management is this?? Lame as hell I'd say! A lot of items are way past the use by date. I usually bring them to the register with me. Stockers stand in the middle of the aisle and don't care if they are in your way. Usually only 2 cashiers along with the 3 shelf checkouts. If you get in shelf service be ready for ugly looks and comments that you have too many items and these are the express lanes. No sign is posted that says that. The cashiers never greet you. You just stand there like you don't exist. Can't get the vodka I like in the summer again because of the summer people. I don't begrudge them buying groceries. The problem again is with the store not ordering enough to allow for the influx during the summer. I could go on and on and on. Everyone stops at the front of the store to check their receipts as they are never correct. Stopped at customer service one time and she put up the closed sign so she could take her 10 minute break. Did not try to help me at all. Corporate Safeway is just as useless. As are the stock answers reviews get. I'm about ready to go 35 miles to next town to go to a different store. Guess Safeway doesn't give a shit because they know you don't have choices. Well screw them. I will go elsewhere! Also sick of these BS stock answers. Everytime I go to this safeway I have the worst experience with the associates. Just yesterday I went in spent 50 dollars and at the end of my bill I ask the cashier "was the milk 1.99?"and she rudely responded "I dont know" As the customer you should take the time to check and if you're having a bad day dont let the customers know...I also advised her that I would bag my own groceries and she rudely responded "I'll do it, I've been on Express by myself all day" She was an older short woman with a braid bangs and glasses..she is a rude cashier and should not be in customer service. They offer a military discount on the 15th of every month. They have really good deals if you use the Just For U app. The times currently o Yelp are wrong: they typically close at 10 or 11, so check their website instead. Cashiers are always friendly although it can be a bit understaffed -- the problems of being the main grocery store in a tourist town that fluctuates drastically in foot traffic depending on the day. read more

I put my groceries on the belt and was 6 ft away from the customer in front of me. Rick the cashier chastised me. I said I thought things had changed because there was no signs up any longer indicating that you should not put your groceries on the belt until it is cleared. He rudely told me that the rules have not changed Covid is still here he said. (Like I didn't know it .)We'll all be happy to follow the rules they should still be posted. Also rick the rules have changed we are now required to wear face masks in pinetop and as of a few days ago gyms are closed again and no gatherings of 50 people or more. I love this Safeway! I am here at least twice a week and 90% of the time I have great customer service. The Deli employees always cater to my requests if I want a different portion of deli meat. The cashiers are super friendly. They typically have a good flower selection. Love the $5 Friday deals. The meat department is well stocked with decent selections. read more

I moved here on July 14th and have been to this store at least 8 times if not more. My son moved here in October and shops here frequently. We have both experienced the same thing over and over. The cashiers do not say hello or thank you. I have only had one friendly cashier out of all these visits. I asked for the location of a product since I wasn't familiar with the store and the stocker was annoyed that I interrupted her. They definitely need some training in customer service. I have shopped at Safeway for many years but maybe I will go to Walmart more. They are much more friendly and helpful. read more

Older, yet typical Safeway grocery store. Parking lot can get quite crowded. In plaza with other shops and fast food restaurants.

It would seem that that store has its share of people that work there. Just had a bad experience with a gal in the bakery dept. and the manager of the store. Both of them had bad attitudes! After I told him of the problem in the bakery he walked out of his cubby hole and walked halfway to the bakery dept. turned around, stood there and looked at me and smiled and then went back into his cubby hole! Made a call to corporate office. I won't hold my breath on hearing from the regional or district manager! So, if you want poor customer service that is the place to go! Good luck Safeway you keep this kind of service up and soon your doors will be closing! This Safeway has the worst customer service I have ever experienced! The cashier Dianne was so confrontational and she never smiles or answers questions that you may have regarding sales. I have never seen her smile or be kind to anyone! She ignored me in line for quite a while and kept talking to another employee before she finally started ringing me up. I am sure she was hoping I would go to another line. She always and I mean every time I have been in her line acts like I am imposing on her and she is rude. So disappointed. We went there for a breakfast sandwich- because they are usually cheap and good. The guy at the Deli took our order- my husband said egg, bacon, American, on focaccia, and I ordered ham and pepper jack. He made the sandwiches and charged us $5.50- the specialty sandwich price! When I told him that we ordered breakfast sandwiches, which are $2.99 he proceeded to argue with me even though it was 9 AM and the choices we gave him were not even available for their specialty sandwiches. His response was- we make sandwiches all day sorry but that's what you ordered so I have to charge you for a specialty sandwich. Simply put, this guy didn't know what he was doing and when confronted, was rude. Finally, the manager of the deli came out, apologized for the guy's lack of training, and charged us the $2.99 for the sandwiches.
