This is my go to grocery store. The bakery alone is worth the trip. Everything is fresh and delicious. The staff is always courteous and friendly. It's bright, clean, and easy to find things. My only knock is the whole paper bag situation. Most of the time you have to ask to buy the paper bags. This may be a corporate thing, but other stores don't charge for bags. I'd rather they raise the price of everything by a penny to offset the cost. read more

I have been visiting this store for many years. I have had pleasant experience so far except for today at the self checkout counter. I waited right at the board that says line forms here and then when a lane opened up I went down to it. The attendant at the self checkout came screaming and yelling that there was another lady infront of me(I was right where the line started and did not see her to the side). I was taken aback for a second as I did not realize what was happening and just see a women yelling and screaming coming at me. When I grasped the situation I took a step back to allow the other person and then turned to the employee to say she need not yell at me and could have told me in a normal way for that she had I don't care attitude. I had a nice chat with the manager who said this is not the first incident with her behavior and would have a talk with her. Safe way customer service is terrible, Bias to a certain category of customers. A employee named Antoinette refuse to assist me with downloading to use a digital coupon for certain product. Than she stated will manually apply the discount since she was unable to provide guidance on how to use it on the application. She also informed me it was forbidden for her to use her discount for me, which I didn't ask her to apply to my check out, I just wanted what the store was promoting. The discount she was trying to apply was $3 lesser than the advertisement on the $5 off after spending $25. I informed the market associate Antoinette the discount she was trying to apply wasn't correct and she scanned her badge in the cash register edit a increase dollar amount, instead of a decreased. After that moment the employee stated you wasn't going to assist me anymore due to her being frustrated and worked all day and walked away. She still use her discount for another customer besides me on their self check out order, after she wasn't able to help me. I had to manage to find the coupon on the app myself and use.Than Antoinnette asked another employee to assist me and that cashier stated the $5 off after spending $25 only applies when I buy $25 Pampers participate products. Why wasn't I informed that with Antinnetto after spending over 15 mins trying to download the digital coupon off the app. Where if I new this information I couldn't been left the store and paid my bill. That is deceitful marketing practicing and should be changed or the employees should be better trained on how to relay this information to the customer . The only good thing about this market is the bakery department. I had other issues with self checkout employee in the past as well that I won't get into. Also, the hot food area like the pizza is nasty, one lady pick up the pizza with gloves on, at the same time touching the Dirty surface and viewing her Mobile device in front of customers. The self checkout is awful! Every single scan today this thing is crying for a manager scan and the guy in the suit is clueless. He keeps running off to the other end of the store. During the pandemic they were out of everything like an apocalypse while ShopRite handles it like pros and had everything. And the food there is always expired or just about to be. It's 7/11/20 and I'm eating the O Organics Beef Jerky and look at the back of it and it says Best Before 05 Oct 19. I only come here because it's closest to my home. What's with Delaware and their cool, renovated and massive stores? First Dairy Queen and now Safeway? Let me say that I'm a fan (especially because of the lack of a sales tax). I almost felt like Whole Foods was transplanted in this store. I'm not saying that the food quality was there (or the large prices har har), but when I was walking the aisles it felt the same. That could be good or bad depending on your take of the situation. As Keely was grabbing a few things I just wandered and got lost. No joke. They had plenty of items to choose from for everything and their meat section looked well stocked with great items. I was thoroughly impressed and as Keely will tell you, I absolutely hate going to grocery stores. Now if only Maryland can get on the ball. Sheesh. read more

I ca say i like coming here when I'm in the area. This was my first store when I moved to Delaware three years ago. They have some good deals on produce but you must keep up on the deal in the flyers and have a discount card. One minus are the limited cashiers. For a large store they seem to not have cashiers for the most productive time of the day, like during the lunch rush and after work crowds. I hope they read these and hire more workers. read more

me and my cousins went to this store and we were very disappointed with the customer service there. when we got there we got a cart that has the little car on it for kids so that the youngest cousin can sit in there so she doesn't run away from us. we were getting our groceries and we were talking and i guess we were being loud. we're a loud family at our normal volume so we didn't know we were being a bother. This employee told us we need to grow up because we all look fairly old and that if we don't she would kick us out, we told her sorry and that we would calm down and then walked away. she had the biggest attitude and was rude. after all of that we sent the 2 youngest girls to go get something and when they came they informed us the same lady followed them while they weren't with us. i'm very disappointed! read more

Pros: Store is always clean. Basic produce items are good. Canned goods are reasonably priced. Cons: Hard to find products. Barely any meat for sale and low quality at that. Very expensive compared to other grocery stores. How is $7.00 a lb for hamburger? Get their card so you can get lower prices at times. We only shop there when we need just one or two things and don't feel like driving further up the road to Shop Rite. Any major shopping we do at Shop Rite on 896 because it has cheaper prices, larger selections, better deli, and meat, easy to navigate. Safeway is like shopping at 7 Eleven for groceries. Shop Rite is way better I suggest you go there. So thankful Shop Rite opened a store on 896. The difference is night and day. read more

The other day I was telling someone in my office that I thought Safeway pizzas from the cafe were really good (for a grocery store lunch counter). I was in the area picking up a present for someone and stopped in to pick up some of that amazing grocery store pizza. I should have known something was up when only one plain and one peperoni pizza were made, and none of the slices were gone and looked like they had been sitting there for an hour. Got back to work and took a bite, it honestly tasted like tough cardboard. No other words can describe it, it was amazing that anything could really taste like cardboard like that. If this was infact supposed to be a cardboard pizza, it would be winning gold metals in competitions. I don't complain about my food, if it's eatable and don't smell like it will make me sick, I'll eat it, I'm not picky. Last time I couldn't eat something because it tasted too disgusting was probably 12 years ago, and that was the first time ever. Now i've encounter my second uneatable meal. But you don't come to Safeway only for pre-made pizza, so my rating isn't based solely on that. The goods: empty...hardly anyone is shopping there, pretty clean, decent selection. The bads: more expensive than other supermarkets, empty...product replenishment of older food isn't as quick. Two staff members completely ignored me while having a conversation about their personal life right in front of me, another employee had to walk over to help. Safeway used to be the only decent supermarket in the area unless you want to pay really absurdly high prices in a gross store, people would go to Acme for that. ShopRight opened up right up the road about a year ago and is just as clean, better selection in produce, meats, specialty stuff, and just general groceries, and is by far cheaper. I realize this probably won't keep people from shopping there, and it shouldn't for those who like Safeway, it's a decent supermarket if you don't mind paying a little more, but please stay clear of their pre-made/cooked pizzas. read more

Quality has gone down in the last few years. Stuck it out for a while because I know that store like the back of my hand. Often times the produce was past its prime, but today was the worst experience by far. Multiple items from meat and eggs to canned biscuits was still out on the shelves past its expiration date. read more

The store is clean and easy to find items. The only drawback is the lack of cashiers and certain times of the day. Sometimes there is only one - 1 item or less line, one regular line but of course the self check-out is opened. Just wish they could figure out how to staff the store. read more

I can't speak for the rest of the store, but the bakery did a great job. We had a co-worker getting promoted and I ordered a cake the day before our lunch. I spoke with Julie and ordered 1/2 sheet cake. I learned they no longer had a scanner, so they would not be able to do the design I wanted. That did not stop them. She promised to see what they could do, and they did not fail me. I don't know who did the free hand decoration, but it was very nice. When I opened the box I could not believe what I saw. I could tell someone took pride in their work. I received a lot of compliments on the cake. They did a fantastic job. I will be going back for future events. read more

The store clerk shout to me today because I scaned one dozen bagel price instead two half dozen prices on the sticker. The clerk was eating her food at the time without wearing a mask. She came close to me and continued to argue with me without her mask on. Until I told her "please put your mask on". Then the clerk talked aloud with another clerk and accused me not follow their rules. She treated me like a thief and called the bakery. I asked her to take all the bagels away because I did not want to buy anymore. When I complained to the store manager Larry, the way I was treated, the other clerk came to argue with me again saying I can't scan one dozen price even I bought two half dozens. By the way, I did not even ask to talk to the clerk, she came to interrupt my conversation with the manager. Again, all these behaviors show the store clerks do not have basic courtesy to customer, especially for the people of minority. read more

Mother and I had problems in self check out, met with a Attitude store associate named Amardo underbarri, who sighed, at our problem (computer froze twice), raised his voice to ask "what the hell are we doing now, it's not that hard", and even snatched a barrel of BBQ sauce out of my mother's hand,will not be going back EVER. They had sent me a coupon and with that, it wasn't as bad or this place would be expensive. Service was alright - i got a sandwich from their deli but the oven wasn't working and they didn't have things like Oil/Vinegar. My cashier was nice but didn't have application for the membership card. She did use her own card so that helped. Couple of shoppers there were being a bit obnoxious but otherwise not a bad place - probably go again so long i have another coupon ;-) read more
