I'm not a fan of Instacarting at Safeway; the app organization, details and in-store layout don't align well compared to other companies with more streamlined systems. I do want to acknowledge the Meat and Deli employees, who were genuinely helpful and kind. They're the only reason this store earns two stars instead of one. My first interaction was with someone I assume was a manager. It took repeating "excuse me, sir" three times to get his attention, and I was treated as an inconvenience while he continued organizing shelves. From a management perspective, the interaction lacked professionalism and basic leadership. He ended up redirecting me to another employee to help me. I prefer self-checkout because I'm rated on bagging through Instacart, and I take that seriously unfortunately (maybe slight OCD some would say). As I entered self-checkout, the employee made a condescending remark about the size of my order, called over another worker, and then that "manager" joined them. All three stood together, leaning and staring in my direction as I checked out. You needed three? I told them all to have a wonderful night as I left, only one waved back. Please stare harder next time, please remember my face or get a life. read more

Was just driving through the city of Medford and came in super late night for some things I forgot to pack. Good shopping experience and appreciated the late night hours of operation. Was staying at a nearby budget motel near the Interstate and noticed I forgot to pack some things. I'm not really good at packing things or shopping - but there I was just coming in for an item or two. Store looked good - typical newly remodeled type and layout is what you'd expect. All the essentials scattered at far ends so you have to walk more - designed so you pick up impulse items. Walked down the greeting card aisle. Found some good looking cards. One that caught my eye was this bulldog on the front. Very cute. Wrinkly and I could tell it was the type to make lots of noises. "Your tough" I think written on the inside. Probably a good choice for somebody who just went through something. Checkout quick. They asked me if I wanted a bag - its unusual for me to find a place that gives them out for free coming from California. I reduced a couple starts because I dislike the crazy coupons and online app only discounts. I think it unfairly treats and isolates maybe seniors who don't have a smartphone and probably people who can't afford one. To treat certain ages or classes of people a certain way like Safeway does I don't like. read more

My boyfriend and I, who are both BIPOC, tried to check out at the front and the cashier completely ignored him and acted like he wasn't there. After a minute of him standing there, he angrily walked away. She then immediately proceeded to let a white woman check out and happily greeted her. We were angry but needed to get food because we were passing by on a road trip and were hungry. We went to the self check out line and the lady started making what seemed like Indian tribal sounds with her mouth, mocking us. First of all, we are not Native American. Second of all, regardless of our race, we should be treated with respect in a public establishment and have the right to be acknowledged when we are trying to buy something and want to be checked out by an actual person. This is not the 1950s. Never coming here again and will spread the word to everyone passing through to not come here. read more

I am so angry I'm shaking. What a horrible store. I'm not sure if it was a red shirt I'm wearing or what it was, but I've never been treated so rudely by anyone in the grocery store in all of my almost half century on the planet. There is no puffcorn, it has been out for several weeks. The chip aisle is half empty not at all like the full aisles at Food 4 Less. If they don't have that brand, they will fax something else but this store does less than the Bare minimum. They had several coolers, but there was no Mountain Dew cold. I took the last Pepsi that was cold. You would think that first thing in the morning it would be better than this, but it isn't. As I walked out, I asked a person with a gray Safeway short who was sweeping by Starbucks can you please get the coolers stocked? I was just so surprised there was no Mountain Dew and very disappointed. He turned around and said to my shock and other amazement no ma'am that's not my job sorry in the rudest tone! Young skinny guy, dark hair goatee, leave him alone because he's mean I decided to turn around and review this please because my feelings matter and so do yours and as I walked in, I heard him talking smack and said, as I walked in, it's not like I can get fired or anything. I feel like a bad person walking out of that store but I was happy when I was coming in absolutely I'm never coming here again. What a terrible store and there's no reason if there's nothing good here how do I come to your store to get insulted, but spend money. Wow please train your employees to not be mean Safeway. Went to talk to the store Manager Jeff today. Gave me additude when i asked about an employee in the deli Christian not wearing a Beard net and got told its not require by health department(Department of Agriculture) to wear it. But its an FDA law that requires the beard net. Would not shop at the deli in this store due to that and the fact they mainly dont even use gloves until some sort of health inspection comes around. I live up the street so I tend to shop there solely for convenience. My family has been shopping there for over 12 years and in the last 2 to 3 years, things have gone down hill fast! Products are overpriced, store made product quality is only so-so (their deli sandwiches used to be the best, then "corporate" said they had to change them), some employees are very rude and unpleasant, and there is no longer outdoor seating. Some of their BEST employees were fired over what seemed tiny issues (one item wrong on a WIC voucher), one that literally watched my siblings and I grow up. David (cashier, customer service) and Mike (courtesy clerk) are some of those very "unpleasant" employees. KC, Theresa, Marilyn, Myrna, Albert, and Garret (plus some I can't remember off the top of my head) are the nicest people to be around! My family still shops there at least monthly but we switched to Winco as our main grocery store to save money. read more

Rude pharmacist David, who stated that he did not have time to call his patients to let them know that a RX needed a provider authorization. Now, we are talking about a little matter, we are talking about a RX that is needed daily or could cause a hospital admission or death. Really? Some people do not deserve to their licensure as they have forgot what they are there for. More! Called to verify that the prescription that I ordered a week ago is ready. Unable to get them on the phone for 3 days. No call back. So, I went in today. I picked up two medications that were ready; however, the one I ordered a week ago was not included. When I asked why it wasn't refilled, I got computer excuses. OK, I get they you have a new system and it is a learning curve. That is why you end test it, staff up to ensure customer service. You DO NOT make the system the customers issue. So, I was sent to another counter where the lady told me that another pre-authorization was needed and they sent it to my physician. OK, great; but, did you let me know? No, they didn't. Again, I hear that they don't have time to call their patients. I also hear that they are understaffed and someone just quit- hopefully it was the Pharmacist above, David, who in my opinion shouldn't be a Pharmacist. Well, after I asked them why I wasn't notified, the pharmacy tech, Nancy, ran to the back crying. OK, there is more going on here than just me asking a question. I am then told by the float pharmacist that she doesn't know anything. This was after her last patient left because she told him the same thing. The lady at the first counter proceeds to tell me that I am not nice. Well, that considering that I can't get a medicine that treats my diabetes and that I am not notified that they can't feel it so that I can intervene before I am out of it, yes, I am likely not going to be OK with this. As a Registered Nurse, I am concern about patients not getting their medications in a timely manner. I care about my patients and patients in general. I can honestly say that I do not feel that anyone at this pharmacy cares about any of their patients. Having witnessed several patients leaving without their medications and being told that "I don't now". Just not acceptable in today's world. I am transferring my scripts elsewhere and I only hope that I find a pharmacy that does care about their patients. I am going to say a prayer for all of them! read more

I'm gonna be straight up on this one- this Safeway has the potential to get really high marks from me- it's very conveniently located for me- they have a great selection of the odd and end items I typically need to complete whatever it is I'm cooking- it's not my primary grocery store but I take the higher prices along with the convenience and tend to stop in to get a few things here and there to go with whatever else I have- a quick gallon of milk- a side dish etc- the employees have always been friendly to me- the pharmacy- the meat department- the checkers- and it does have my favorite Starbucks conveniently located within its walls- I don't even mind the fact that it's always full of tweakers and generally sketchy criminals lingering outside and sometimes inside too... my biggest gripe is that it always takes so freaking long.... why have a "quick-check" if it's rarely open? How about a couple of self check out registers instead? I have spent countless evenings hoping for a quick in and out trip only to have two checkstands open with lines winding into the aisles.... pro-tip - buy something at Starbucks and check out there- it's definitely worth the cup of something you weren't even planning on... oh yeah I'm writing this because I got in my car and found a fuzzy grape in my snack box (mold not a cool new variety) and I'm going to take my chances... toss that grape and hope for the best.... because I don't want to go wait forever to get a new one... so instead I took the same amount of time it would've taken to get the replacement to write this frustrated review for your reading enjoyment :) read more

Occasionally, I shop here but each time it's an uncomfortable feeling. Either it's stechy customers or rude employees. One time, I was leary of walking down an aisle because I thought I would be mugged by stechy customers. Another time, I pleasantly said hello to the cashier and received a glare. I didn't hear the cashier's question, apologized, and got rudeness. I continued being pleasant and said Thank You when I got my receipt. Felt like the cashier was looking for a confrontation. We went to pick up a prescription for a friend who is hurt and cannot get out of his house. He told us the pharmacy opens early on Tuesay for elderly, due to the covid virus. We got there at ten till 8 and waited for ten minutes after 8 and they were not open yet. We had to make a second trip to get his prescription and the people at the store are not pleasant and it saddens me to see everyone freaking out because they are afraid. Do not tell people you are open if you are not. Take time to smile and be pleasant. read more

I went into Safeway (1003 Medford Center) Friday evening around 9PM. I found several customers without a Mask! I mentioned to one person (with her 2 teenage daughters accompanying her) that I would appreciate that they wear a mask for my protection and others. She became belligerent and moved her cart towards me as if wanting to push me out of her way. I told her she should be ashamed for not having consideration for others. There were about 4 (maybe 5) Safeway employees there. They all seemed to be in their younger to middle 20's. They did NOTHING to enforce the Mask requirement and ignored me when I mentioned the problem. SAFEWAY, you want your customers to be safe... then ENFORCE the Mask Wearing... OR BE LIABLE for suits by your customers who wear a mask and may end of getting COVID-19 because your employees are NOT Enforcing Mask Wearing. So been coming here since I moved out to Oregon from California. It was nice cause it was like a piece of Cali came with me until today. I finally show up when they have a full wing bar with two flavors that I haven't tried that are usually gone so I tried one after putting my usual to see if I'd like a few and I didn't like it so as I head to throw it away a male named Sean from behind the deli counter yells at me "HEY" looking at me crazy telling me not to steal wings well I wasn't. I was sampling something you can do there right cause I see people ask all the time to try one see if its for them. But that besides my point he made me feel so low as he continues to accuse me of stealing the wings. Even after I asked for his name he Rudely Gave it to me and continued to put me down. I stopped in today and did some shopping. When checking out I was friendly and tried to talk with the checker. He was very gruff and unfiendly. I asked if I could get money back and he said he didn't have enough and pointed at the customer service booth. A manger was just leaving and I asked if I could get money back and he said the ATM is right over there and walked away. It wasn't my back and they add a hefty charge so of course I didn't want to use it. I noticed another checker counting her drawer and asked her. She said you have to make a purchase. I explained what the unfriendly checker said, she was unfriendly as well, and she said not without s purchase. I told her to call a manager and the same guy came back. When I explained he was kind enough to help. There are 2 kinds of employees. Those who look for reasons not to help and those who look for ways to make it work. This store is full of the first kind. Ever since Albertson's bought this Safeway it's gone downhill. It's poorly stocked, the old, helpful checkers and counter people are gone, and generally it's just chaotic. Last night was the worst we've experienced yet. A new person at the meat-and-fish counter seemed clueless and acted bizarrely, and we almost left without buying anything. They just installed six self-serve checkout kiosks but only three were working. Of those three, two were blinking, with customers standing there waiting for a non-existent kiosk manager to clear their purchases. This went on for ten minutes and it was still going on when we left. A week before that they were restocking in the middle of the afternoon and half the store was a mess. They're out of things constantly (a grocery store with no whole chickens??) It used to be a nice little store but now we rarely shop there unless we need a few items and don't want to drive to Winco. Even then there's a good chance they'll be out of what we need. read more

The Safeway Pharmacy in Medford Center really sucks. There's only one pharmacy staffperson named Sue who is competent and gives great service. It is not uncommon for there to be five or six customers waiting in line at the pharmacy counter and a single counter person to help them when there are thee people working in the pharmacy. The wait can take ten minues or more. read more

I've had several repeat experiences of poor customer service. Typically service requires you to stand in line, even if you are the only customer for 10-15 minutes, before you are acknowledged. On one occasion, I was picking up a prescription that was important. I had suffered an injury on the job and was sent to a local immediate care clinic at noon. The clinic treated me and called in a prescription to be picked up at the Medford Center location. When I arrived to pick up the prescription, the pharmacist was unable to find me in the system (even though I pick up a monthly prescription at the very same location). At 4:00 PM that same day, I called the immediate care clinic to verify that the prescription had been submitted. They were able to verify that it was submitted at 12:00 PM. I called Safeway again at 8:00 PM asking them to, please, take a second look. The pharmacist told me that there were no messages on the doctor line, but that the patient line had close to 50 messages. Unfortunately for me, he told me that didn't feel like taking the time to review those messages even though there was an hour before the pharmacy closed. The end result is that I will be in pain tonight. Tomorrow, I will need to report to work at 5:30 AM, before the pharmacy opens. I will be in pain all day until 5:00 PM when I can try Safeway again. I'm not optimistic. In short, I've received consistently poor customer service from the Safeway pharmacy at Medford Center. I will be changing pharmacies, even though I live very close to Safeway, and I suggest you avoid doing business with them as well. Very dissapointed. read more

I went to pick up a prescription for a friend. I have picked up several in the last 6 months. My friend has insurance from his job, and Indian contract, the cost, should be zero! Half, the time, they won't honor the Indian contract and tell me they need more information. I went in on 2/02/18, no problem, no payment required. I went today 2/23/2018, you guessed right, their was yet again a co- payment due. I, explained yet again, she looked at the computer, and said, have his tribe call us. How, can things change 21 days later??????. I have no faith, for the pharmacy. I, can suggest to EVERYONE, never go, call to see if it's ready, call to make sure they are billing you right, get the person's name, write down when you called. This pharmacy, always has an excuse, their never wrong, it's always, the customers fault, the Drs fault, the insurances fault. NEVER THEIR FAULT, SHAME ON YOU!!!!!! read more

I made the unforgivable mistake of forgetting my wife on Mother's Day! To make it worse it was her first Mother's Day. In my defense we had just taken in our sons a few months earlier, and I was out of town on business for the actual holiday. Never the less there is no justifiable excuse. I came into Safeway with a goal of filing her office with flowers I met Harold and Roland and they immediately stepped up with ideas and went above and beyond to make sure I recorded quality flowers, as the pickings were slim due to the holiday just passing. and to my surprise they were even able to give me a special price as I purchased such a large quantity. If you can imagine how grateful I was to have these two gentlemen helping me out, now I'll tell you that this was done close to midnight. The next day my wife phoned me and was beyond happy. She then asked me two questions, 1. How did I do it? And 2. How much did it cost? To the first question I answered, "with some new friends (Harold and Roland). And to the second, I answered, "more than you would have liked but less than you think" I wish I would have had her take pictures of her office filled with flowers, maybe next year. Have had bad experiences here before, such as expired products being sold, and prices being higher in check-out than advertised on the shelf, even with my 'club card'. On average, I'd say I spend at least $300 a month on groceries there, but as of today I've sworn off the place. The woman working the customer service desk (who wasn't wearing a nametag, so presumably she's management) was incredibly rude. My wife and I came in with a few bags of quarters that we wanted to get rid of, and we asked if we could get some coin-wrappers to roll the quarters, or alternatively some bills so we wouldn't force the cashier to count it out. This was an attempt on our part to not be the annoying people in line who hold everything up and cause your ice cream to melt. The managerial woman at the counter refused to take our money, and told us that 'I'm not going to stand here and count your change" in a very dismissive and disgusted tone, as if we were asking for something extravagant. We explained that we didn't want to slow down the line, and we'd have no choice but to make the cashier go through the same thing she was refusing to do --- count change. The managerial woman continued to refuse, proceeding to shame us for paying in change. We left the customer service desk feeling pretty berated by this woman. We bought a few things and went through the check out line, and the cashier counted our change and was nice about it. However, the chronic mismanagement and depressingly bleak demeanor of the Safeway staff (understable if that's their boss), combined with inflated prices and a mediocre-at-best selection of foods makes Safeway the worst grocery experience possible. They shamed my wife and I for wanting to spend money, so we will never spend money there again. read more

There are many reasons I will not be returning to this store. I live very near by and work nearby so it has been a place to shop primarily out of convenience, Yet no more. They are notorious for selling expired products, fake sales, rotten food, bad customer service, slow checkout, and overall bad selection (especially on Gluten Free stuff) Let me start with the cheese. I once found about a dozen expired packages of cheese and pulled them from the shelf and physically handed them to an associate, she acted like this mattered, thanked me, and that was that. Fast forward to the next week when doing more shopping, and what do you know, the exact same cheese (still expired) was back on the shelf and now on SALE! Ooo Good Deal Right!?! Ok then there is the meat department. They provide (supposedly) a meat grinding service, yet when I asked once for some meat to be ground fresh for me I was told no because (hours before closing) they had just cleaned the meat grinder. I'm sorry what?? I can't have fresh ground meat because it's clean? She then proceeds to tell me that well I just won't get all of it anyway because it will be stuck in the meat tube and I will thus not get all the meat I will pay for. To which I point at the scale and suggest that is where that machine would come in. So think about this for a minute, they are acknowledging that when you get ground meat you are in fact getting the cut/type of meat that the PREVIOUS customer had and gosh I hope it wasn't three hours ago that customer was there.. So today was yet one more horrible experience and it has finally run me off for good. This is my first review ever on Yelp and thank you Safeway for inspiring me.
