I've been coming to the Lake long enough, and I'm old enough, to remember a time before Lakeport had a Safeway. I must say, I'm glad they're here and I appreciate them. It's nice to have a chain supermarket that has weekly specials and sales. The food quality when it comes to produce, bakery, and meats is all good. The customer service is good, as long as you can find a staff member to help. (Many of them are retrieving online orders). The store itself is pretty clean and is arranged in a fairly easy to navigate fashion. I'm sure I'll be back, especially for those $5 Friday deals and specials! read more

Food is always GREAT! However, the service is mediocre with long lines at dinner time and too few checkers and no 15 item checkers open. Today, the checker who claimed to be a "manager" rushed so fast that he overcharged me for at least six items that were CLEARLY MARKED 50% Discount with orange stickers. There were only two regular checkers about 6 pm on a Wednesday; the "15 only items" were closed. When I went to the self-help (I had about 14 items, several with 50% discount stickers) the attendant at the self-help turned me down and told me to move to a regular checker because I had discount items. Previous self-help employee (Brenda) has always helped me check out and scan my discounted items for me, very kindly and quickly, since I am disabled and have difficulty standing. When I told the check I needed to sit at the Starbucks area for a half minute (after waiting on line for nearly 20 minutes with only two people before me), the checker "Victor" stopped ringing up my items and loudly told me I was holding up people who were waiting, that I was holding up other people by sitting - when about half of my items were still on the counter to be rung up! I returned to the counter, and he was rude and I was offended at his attitude. I asked for him to be kinder and he said "you should be a manager". I replied "you would be a better manager!" Then he retorted "I AM A MANAGER"! When I examined my receipt at home, the total was nearly $90, I was not given the 50% discount on more than 6 items - should have been closer to $65. read more

I had one of the most humiliating things happen to me yesterday. A Safeway employee confronted me at my vehicle in their parking lot accusing me of not paying for my items. Even after I gave her my receipt, without reading my receipt she accused me a second time of NOT paying. Then after she read my receipt, she said "oh, have a nice day" and walked away. NO APOLOGY, NOTHING! This is not the only run-in I've had with this cashier, who's worked at this location for many, many years. About two weeks ago I was at self check-out paying for mine and my 85 year old neighbors things, that combined was 13 items. This same individual snidely approached me and stated how this was 15 items or less. I verbally counted in front of her 1, 2, 3, 4, 5........13. She just walked away. I'm a retired banker of 45 years, who always prided myself on customer service and like to carry myself in a pleasant, upbeat manner. I was well dressed today and actually received several compliments on what I was wearing, which was a maxi sun dress with a long shrug my sister bought me. So its not like I was in my pajamas carrying a backpack, looking suspicious. I frequently tell whoevers waiting on me that I'm appreciative for them being there, cause I know how CRAZY that line of work can be. As a loyal and faithful Safeway customer my whole adult life, I find this individual excessively inappropriate on so many levels. read more

Has anyone else gone through their "Recycling" process? Nothing could be more degrading than 6 of the flimsiest bags ever made. Given out 6 at a time. That won't hold 10 one gallon plastic jugs or 10 wine bottles. Then you have to take the 6 bags into the store to the customer service desk at the end of all the checkout lanes wait for someone who can actually provide the "service". While shoppers check out your piles of plastic, glass and aluminum. That all adds up to maybe 5 dollars that won't buy a gallon of fuel. Get a scale in the back of the store most of us have containers.Too bad I have to give you any star at all. read more

I picked up a drive and go food order on Aug 20 totaling $299.01. I got home to find $80.38 in missing items, nearly 1/3 of the order. Customer service in the store refused to help and referred me to the incompetent drive and go manager identified as Amy. She never returned my call and no one in that department answers the phone, so I called the main customer service line for a refund. Five days and multiple phone calls later I only received a refund for $50.10, apparently they expect me to eat the difference of their complete incompetence. The drive and go is poorly mismanaged and customer service is useless. I've called main customer service multiple times and every time they've given me incorrect information, including that the store operations manager has to approve. When I called the store customer service they were unaware if they had an operations manager. On the fourth or fifth time calling the main customer service the supervisor I spoke to was super rude. She also made me go over all the missing items in my order, which she should already have. Apparently I was refunded by the incompetent drive and go manager Amy for items I actually received as well as the incorrect $amount. I will never shop here again and I'd advise no one else to either. This was ridiculous. Amy and her employees outright stole $80.38 in groceries from me and refused to refund me the entire amount. read more

The checkout froze and crashed after part of my payment processed. It had a $9 balance and I had to wait 37 minutes for it to reboot! I asked them to take $9 of stuff out of my bag so I could go and they wouldn't. When their system finally came up I paid my balance and left without any ownership of the supreme inconvenience or any effort to make it right. Three customers behind me left their stuff and walked out cause of the wait while system took forever to reboot. They make so much money their systems should work reliably. read more

Had pick up & go order for 5 - 6 pm, received text from store started shopping at 3:50, then nothing....now 7:30. Called store at 6:15 pm regarding order, 40 minutes before talked to someone in produce who transferred me to extension that rang and rang, and sent me back to produce, who hung up . Called again, ending in deli, asked for store manager name, she didn't know it, asked for her manager (maybe Mac but wasn't sure (?!) and not there. Offered to walk my complaint back to pick up & go, my guess didn't. This store needs a real manager who actually know how to manage a grocery store. Go anywhere else to shop read more

Well, a week ago they were "re-line-ing" the Parking Lot, on $5 Friday, when many Seniors were trying to come in... It was a freaking total disaster, half the parking was blocked off and the store itself, was empty of customers and absolutely freezing... We spent about $40 and fled... Today we went in and I inspected the parking lot result... They had previously had an illegally small number of Disabled Parking spaces, and someone had probably sued, but now they have eight spaces, but the egress is absurd, some of the spaces are straight-in and some are angled, and the net effect is dangerous, difficult to use, and plain idiotic. Obviously they used the cheapest contractor they could find... Safeway cannot do anything right, and we are begging WINCO, or Trader Joe's or SOMEONE to come to this crappy little town and take over! Safeway in Lakeport is dirty, understaffed, and customer service representatives seem extremely unhappy. They lock up products for security purposes, and you have to wait for one of the customer service representatives to unlock the cabinet. Most of which do not have a key to the cabinet, so you have to wait longer for some unhappy representative to help you. The products should be accessible to your trusted customers and maybe give a human being a job for security. Shopping Safeway in Lakeport is no longer an option for me. After several attempts to give this store a chance to not disappoint me, this final shopping excursion will absolutely be my last. read more

I shop here a LOT, unfortunately I have had a couple bad experiences but none really worthy of a review. Today is the day I guess. So, unfortunately I have covid and was trying to avoid contact, I needed groceries. So I used the online order/pick up. For starters, several items that I ordered were not in stock even though they said in stock online. Then when I got home my kids started unloading bags and I realized that they gave me someone else's order. I called them and at first they were going to get my order ready so I can come all the way back and pick it up. Then I get a call from a guy pretty much interrogating me saying their employee handed me some of my order, a hot item. Well, no I didn't receive it. The only thing exchanged was the 5$ tip my daughter gave the guy that brought out our groceries. He was basically calling me a liar. It's now 4:15 and I don't know if I will be getting my groceries or not. I understand mistakes happen, however I'm super disappointed in how this man called me and told me that I received items that I didn't. If you plan to call the pharmacy to inquire about a prescription or have any questions for the pharmacy they won't answer... ever... lol. kinda silly. Pharmacy also only works through one window and lines can get so ridiculous that you're waiting until 10 minutes before 1pm. Then they inform you it's their lunch. Understandable. Everyone's gottuh eat! But it just feels understaffed as a whole (pharmacy and cashiers). It's just a bummer i have to now drive all the way back home, in redwood valley, then come back to lakeport just to see if i can get a prescription or have them send it somewhere closer to me. i wont know if or when it's ready since they don't answer. And i've had prescriptions take 8+ hours to fill... Im sure they do what they can, but the lakeport safeway needs to do better to aid the staff. read more

As far as a Safeway goes, the store was fine. I was able to find things, it was clean, and people were nice. Their Starbucks, however, was a constant source of frustration. I visited the store every day for a week. Day 1: able to get a cold brew, no problem. Day 2: waited 15 mins to be helped while 1 out of 3 people behind the counter made 4 very complicated drinks for the person ahead of me as the other two people did other things. I had to leave, so no cold brew that day. Day 3: walked up and was told they were closed "for 10 mins" and they put a sign on the register. People were still waiting for drinks. No cold brew that day. Day 4: Closed. Day 5: able to get cold brew! Day 6: "closed on Mondays (!!)" So, not awesome, and their selection of cold drinks as an alternative in the store very small compared to my Safeway at home. read more

Pharmacy sucks so bad in the past nobody even answers I had a guy answer today following a ear surgery leaving me completely deaf in one ear he kept saying something about a policy and how I already picked up meds and something about transferring all my medications. I told him I don't even take medications anywhere I just had surgery and need to fill a prescription. I asked him to explain it to me again and told him I'm having hard time hearing I just had surgery . Can you repeat your policy and he was like yeah in lake county we have a policy. Omg! I did a drive up and go order on 12/28/2022 on my mobile app. Unfortunately I wasn't able to go pick up my items as I got stuck in another town and called letting them know. I was told my order would be cancelled and that I would receive a refund at a later date. (5-7 business days I believe) my order was for $78 and about 15 small items. Later that night I got a notification saying my order was picked up, it was weird because like I said I wasn't picking it up. I immediately messaged the chat option where they assured me that I was still going to receive my refund. The next morning I did another order for the exact items early morning like 5 am. Around 6 am I received a nasty voicemail from a Liz saying I had a whole bunch of orders that I never pick up and that they don't have room for my stuff. (3 bags it ended up being) I have been shopping at Safeway for years and within the last year switched over to the pick up and go as I had back surgery and it was convenient. With that being said I spend $500-600 a month on groceries and have never not picked up my order until this time, which I did notify the store about. I really enjoyed all the employees until the particular person started. I've personally called the manager before expressing my concern on her. Anyways, I called the store manager, who apologized and walked the groceries out herself. A week goes by and I still haven't received a refund so I call the customer service who claims there was never any refund requested but would do so. Another month goes by and still nothing so once again I talk to someone and they tell me the same thing. It's been 2 months now and I still haven't received that refund. I've tried calling customer service and writing emails but no one has responded. I have saved the voicemail and reference numbers as well if needed for more proof. I would be happy to send them over. I do not feel comfortable shopping here anymore which is a bummer because it was so convenient. read more

This Safeway in Lakeport used to be my favorite place to grocery shop in Lake county. It has been recently upgraded and the store looks nice. Since Covid-19, several workers (obviously overstressed) have been extremely rude even to the point of yelling at customers. I have personally experienced and witnessed several episodes where employees rudely scolded customers for really no reason; claiming they need to back off even when social distancing was much more than 6 feet, calling people up to the register, than scolding them loudly when they placed items on the check out belt. They also seem to have a lot of trouble keeping in stock many many items when other grocery outlets have many of these same item routinely in stock. I am going to other grocery stores now. read more

Safeway is an outpost of civilization in Lake County. In the shadow of the dormant volcano Mount Konocti, it's a refuge out in the wilderness. When I was headed to Ukiah, I stopped here to get an instant camera. It's a clean place with friendly employees. When it comes to Safeway, the more it's out in the wilderness, the better it is. It does bring normality to Lakeport, and is right off its antique row. read more

We were fortunate to have the Lakeport Safeway bakery (Peggy and staff) make us a cake for a special day on Jan 2nd. The two-tiered cake was over-the-top beautiful, exactly as we'd hoped. With minimal instructions, Peggy took the desired general idea and created a masterpiece. The beautiful design matched the yummy taste as well. It is difficult to point out any one thing, but every day that passes following the sale of Safeway to an investment group, seems to diminish the store's relevance and quality. First and foremost are the empty shelves in certain aisles, most notably, the dry goods section (i.e., toilet paper, paper towels, etc). It's either empty shelves or a reduction to a selection of products I don't particularly want. The other problems are harder to characterize crisply, but they mostly have to do with the "Just4U" program (which from what I've read is possibly not loved by current management). The variety and relevance of items now offered to me by Just4U have vastly diminished..., really almost making the program irrelevant. ..., and when I do try to make a purchase using the program, EASILY 2/3 of the items that were offered and that I selected and that I try to purchase will be out of stock..., sometimes never re-stocked. All of which forces a kind of downward spiral: the less I buy at Safeway, the less the analytics that Safeway uses w/ the Just4U program will offer, the less I will buy.., etc, etc. Of lesser but still notable import..., the conditions in the parking lot can be revolting. This really more speaks to the social conditions afflicting the area..., but I hope Safeway can give some thought as to how to improve this. I don't particularly like dodging fully loaded diapers and puddles of vomit while walking into a store with empty shelves. Per other comments, I don't encounter this problem at the other stores. On the upside: the employees I've interacted with are really good people and have always acted with integrity and respect. I agree with the sentiment of others regarding the way other local stores have lowered the bar..., it's just sort of unfortunate that Safeway appears to have joined the race to the bottom. --- Update: today..., the parking lot was pretty good. While they didn't have everything I was looking for, they did have one thing that has been out of stock for a long time. The store is nice, it has everything. I get really good deals with the For U coupons. I add the coupons at home to my card, but I decided to print the list out at the store. The store computers wouldn't let me select just certain things from the list, i had to print out it all. Which really wastes paper and ink for the store. And also the For U printout kiosk was really dirty. I love the store and I like shopping here so much but if they could just fix the kiosk so I can select certain items to print and possibly wash the table cloth everything would be perfect. The in-store Starbucks could probably use some training and encouragement from Starbucks because they are slow and don't know how to treat gold cards. This store has really gone down hill. Especially in the customer service. Typically there is a lack of checkers so you wait forever in lines, or you get in a line only to have some rude checker cut in front of you and say I'm closing, some old man who looked comply miserable didn't say I'm sorry or anything just closed the line. On August 27, 2020 I went into this store and found a handicapped cart plugged into the wall behind the coin star machine. There were no signs in the store that said safeway employees can unplug carts. There was no one available to help me and in Clearkake they allow customers to unplug or plug in the carts by the customer. This defective plug sparked and slammed my left hand so hard it collapsed my left thumb implant. I finally found an associate you wrote out my formal complaint of injury. The store did nothing an never filed it to Sedway their insurance agent who handles claims. After another two months they denied my claim of injury and said a sign is posted to not tough the carts. In August there was no signed posted about this policy. They had ignored my complaints and I will have to retain a lawyer. All I want is my right to file a claim and for them to accept liability. I am a senior and Sedway their insurance refuses to accept that Safeway did not honestly accept responsibility for my injury. Big time 2nd parties routinely deny claims and bet the odds of someone bringing it to suit. She on them for treating a 71 senior. Anyone know of a good attorney to retain? This isn't right.! In my experience, Safeway is a reliable grocery store no matter what location. Always upscale, clean, good selection. True even in the little town of Lakeport. The true test of value is how their pre-made pizza compares to Papa Murphy's. I'll update my post after dinner. read more

I have shopped at Lakeport Safeway for years. But a couple of years ago I had a bad experience with a very negative cashier, and it wasn't the first time. And haven't been back until now......... They have an excellent seafood selection, expansive produce offering, great bakery and deli. (Meat and bakery personnel are always delightful.) But way too many times the cashiers are just plain RUDE, overall, as a majority I am finding. This time..... I stood in line behind an elderly, polite & positive gentleman, he was clean and nicely dressed. He had put a coupon with the groceries on the belt and the cashier overlooked it. He asked if she had got the coupon on the bill before paying. She had not, she berated him for not bringing it up earlier. He was definitely shocked at her response and had some hurt feelings. After a few more choice words to the customer she refused to honor the coupon saying it should have been submitted to her prior to ringing up the groceries. The customer apologized, paid for his groceries and left. I really felt uncomfortable and wish now I had said something, to someone. This cashier never even acknowledged me after I said hello, and at the end of the transaction she only stated, "Next time you to be in the other checkout line, this is 25 items or less". Mind you there was only 2 checkout lines open, the store was not very busy, and no one waited behind me, I did not even notice the sign stating this, my error. She was so rude about it. I apologized and left the store, completely in shock of such behavior. And when loading my groceries into my car, I actually counted them. There was 27 Total items. And 1 item was not even mine, so I assume the gentleman before me is missing some of his groceries as well and probably got charged for it as well. I will never shop here again. Bad customer service is not acceptable, but it is even more infuriating when it is directed at a very polite elderly person.
