I go to many Safeway's as I travel all over CA for work, this is hands-down the worst I have ever been to. If you go around 5 p.m. there's usually two registers open with huge lines. Tons of rude employees. Three different occasions in the last 12 months I have had to drive back to get a bag of stuff they never even gave me after paying for it. No apologies ever. by far the worst grocery store in amador County. This is why I usually will pay more and stick to Raley's. So much more I can write but they've already taken enough of my time. read more

This is a fairly new Safeway. Very clean and very nicely laid out. Fresh produce was nice to see. A spot on deli and fresh bakery items. After stopping at Vinciguerro's for ravioli, I stopped into this Safeway to pick up a few items to round out dinner. I grabbed some roma tomatoes very fresh basil garlic fresh mozzarella loaf of fresh french bread Spring salad mix Parmignana-Reggiano I rounded out a beef ravioli w/marinara main with the following sides: garlic and olive oil roasted roma tomato halves w/fresh mozzarella slices and chiffonade of basil. Spring mix salad with crumbled goat cheese tossed with a garlic balsamic vinaigrette. Garlic bread w/minced basil. The prices were a wee bit higher than Raleys, but they have a nice selection of offerings. read more

Really bad customer service. If you want any type of service never use their deli. When I was there they had six people working in the deli section . not one of them would make eye contact with customers or ask if they could help them. After waiting 10 min a women come over and asked if she could help me I said yes and she stop helping me to explain to her coworker that they had a door dash order and they needed to work on that again turning her back to us customers in the store. I had been standing there the entire time when she choose to answer the phone instead of helping the people in the store waiting . She answered the phone to get the door dash order. It's apparent they want to do anything but help in store customers . The coworker choose to ignore the other customers needing help to fill the door dash order. Safeway has really started going downhill. I used to love shopping there because it was cheaper than Raley's and everything was just as good. There were usually plenty of check stands open, and I could find everything I wanted. And I loved the Buy 1 Get 1 deals. I think the change started when they rearranged the entire store. I still feel like I have to hunt for everything. And they keep rearranging sections (maybe to keep us on our toes?) But then I started noticing they had less check stands open. And there is one checker there that I refuse to use because he always complains about his back. I'm sorry your back hurts, but I really don't want to hear it every time I come in there. And the baggers need better training (several times they have put meat packages in on top of fruit, etc, without wrapping it first, or put heavy stuff on top of bread or chips). I almost just want to bag my own stuff! And a lot of the other staff seems grumpy and sometimes irritated when you ask them a question. Also, they are selling products that are already expired. Mostly meat and dairy products. I try to check dates when I'm in the store, but I shouldn't have to check everything. I've had to return items to the store several times now (like bacon, chicken and yogurt). It's very frustrating when you live Upcountry. Also, some of their Buy 1 Get 1 deals are getting a little ridiculous. Like Buy 3, get 2 free on soda packs. Really, so to get some sort of discount, I have to buy 5 12-packs of soda? If i just want 1 or 2, I have to pay full price. I've started going to Raley's because they are friendly, I can find everything I need, and they always have several check stands open. Perfectly adequate Safeway. Very clean, decent selection. I was however, quite appalled at the discussions overheard at the checkout. While checking out, two blonde clerks found it to be an appropriate time to discuss how "happy they are that they're white" and how they were almost fired recently for various things. To the clerk, Parys, believe it or not people in line can hear you. Weird right? Please keep that in mind so customers aren't subjected to your repulsive verbal diarrhea. Management should probably follow through on that firing thing. read more

We utilized this Safeway for our girls' weekend nourishment. This is a conveniently located, large store with everything we could possible need, including "designer" snuggies. I'm not going to lie, I was tempted to buy a camo one. Definitely a good store to stop at for food and drinks, either on your way to the snow, or if Amador County is your final destination. read more

I won't eat fast food after shredding at Kirk anymore!! Safeway sandwiches are greasy, hearty and totally filling. I love the black forest ham pannini's with jalapenos and tomato. Grab a cold beer or soft drink from the drink aisle and you're golden. I was also very impressed with my soup this weekend. The jambalaya was made just right and the small size can feed 2 adults NO problem. p.s. I'm always tickled by the fact that I am the only ethnic person in the store when I pass through. This is a crappy store they put so much stuff in the aisles that one cart cannot pass another. I find a check stand checking some out, but their stand "open" light is off, so I have to ask him if he is open, he says yes, I mention his light is not on but he ignores me and keeps checking. Never did turn it on. Safeway is a high priced store, so if we don't notice a really good sale, we don't shop for anything else there. read more

Masks are required in CA yet I counted 24 people not wearing one in my 10 minute trip into the store. No enforcement of masks. Some of the people not wearing them were employees including a girl behind the Starbucks counter. I didn't feel safe at all. No wonder America can't get this under control. read more

Shopped at this Safeway this morning and was very disappointed that at least 80% of employees weren't wearing masks. Past one employee stocking shelves that had a hacking cough and was not wearing a mask. I live in this community and will find someplace else to shop. I had to stop at this store on my way through town while on a road trip. This is a really good store. It looks like it was recently remodeled and upgraded. The deli department makes really good sandwiches and side salads. They have a good variety compared to other chain store delis. The soups are ways really good and the portions are large. There was a good selection in the bakery department and the staff was very friendly and helpful. read more

I hate giving less then 4 stars but I have been going to this store for several years on and off and 80% of the time I end up with an unpleasant customer service experience. Yesterday was the last straw. I've had bad luck with cashiers at this store; rarely do they greet me pleasantly and when they do speak to me it's just to ask if I need bags or to tell me to swipe my club card if I have one. Many times they just have conversations amongst themselves and ignore me until they give me my receipt. It's not that they are particularly rude it's just an overwhelming feeling that I'm annoying them or a burden that needs to move along. Due to these experiences I've started using self check out exclusively to avoid the whole awkward interactions. Unfortunately when the machine gets weird and it demands the cashiers attention I end up with another annoyed employee who mutters some inaudible greeting under their breath, huffily pushes buttons on the screen to fix the issue and then mutters a "there" before walking back to their post to look at anything but the customers. I shop here for little things that can be done through self check out simply because it's convenient but the consistent "you are bothering me" attitude is driving me more and more to Raley's across town. On a side note to management, not ALL the cashiers are like this, I've seen pleasant ones but it's just very rare. read more

Well I guess I dont mind leaving a bad review after seeing so many other bad reviews. This store used to be a great store for products and customer service. After my last visit, which I received no service nor acknowledgement, though I waited at the service deli for nearly 20 minutes, we left. My wife who formerly worked at a Safeway, shook her head and said this customer service would not have been accepted at the store she worked. Especially since we were the only customers at the counter. There is absolutely no excuse for such poor service from a full service grocery store. I have been shopping at this Safeway (12110 Industry Blvd. Jackson, CA 95642-9373) since 2008 and in the last few years the store as a whole has declined. I spend about $1,000 to $1,200 a month on groceries plus gas for both my vehicles and always get our birthday cakes, flowers and balloons from here. Needless to say we have been loyal costumers and wanted to keep our money in the county. Majority of the staff including managers are RUDE, they all have an ATTITUDE, not helpful and don't care about costumer service. They mock you, they don't take your complaints seriously or do anything about it, they don't talk to you or they act like it's a chore to help you. Staff also talks about each other (seems like a lot of drama between employees openly aired). My family has had several bad experiences in this store in the last two months and it's to the point I'll be taking my money to super wal mart in galt (at least they will bag my groceries). One day I had my 7 and 5 year old with me. We were shopping in an aisle when a younger female employee came around the corner with a big push broom and literally ran my 7 year old down knocking him off balance. The employee didn't say excuse me or sorry, she literally kept going. You would think a normal person would have gone around people or waited for us to leave so that she could continue to sweep. I brought this incident up to the assistant manager and all she said is "I will talk to her" and walked away. No apologies or even asked if my kid was ok. My grandma was excited to try the curbside pick up. She ordered about 8 pies so that she could deliver them around to our family for Christmas. She had the pick date for Christmas Eve at noon and mind you not she ordered these pies on dec 19th to be pick up on December 24th. Well my grandma showed to pick up the pies. Safeway had zero pies. The store didn't even bother to get a hold of her to let her know. She drove from San Andreas to Jackson for nothing. On January 13th my grandma and grandpa went into Safeway (they are from San Andreas and very rarely shop at this store). They grabbed a pack of mini cupcakes, a birthday card and a gift card. They got in line and put the 3 items on the conveyor belt. The cashier yelled at my grandparents in front on everyone because they placed the items on the belt before she was done checking out another customer. My grandparents are in their 70s, they don't shop at Safeway and didn't know not to that, there was no sign stating to wait to put your stuff on the belt until the cashier says too. The cashier was rude and humiliated my poor grandma. The cashier didn't even wipe down or sanitize the belt after her last costumer so what was the point of yelling and humiliating an old couple who sat down three items if you are not even going sanitize the belt??? There's no point in keeping costumers items seperate if you are not going to even sanitize between transactions. In this past week I spent $160 (Jan 12th) and picked up 2 birthday cakes, on Jan 14th I spent $55 on balloons/flowers and $50 on gas and today I spent $185 on groceries... total of $450 in ONE week and I couldn't even get someone to help at the deli to make a breakfast burrito even though the store manager and a female employee were directly behind me having a conversation and there was 3 other employees all in the deli area. Not one asked if they could help me. They all saw me because when I walked away that's when the store manager and two employees finally said that they could help. I kept walking. I use to overlook the high prices because the quality of food and service but now I cannot justify it no longer. I will not be shopping at Safeway stores. I am tired of spending $200 +, having to pay for bags and bagging my own groceries because you decided you don't need baggers. If I wanted to bag my own groceries I would go to Food4less and pay half the price. I have brought my issues to both assistant managers. The female assistant manager just doesn't care and male assistant manager laughs and mocks you. The actual store manager doesn't seem to care because nothing has changed even with all the negative reviews stating the same issues and it's only gotten worse. I am surprised corporate hasn't stepped in. Maybe supply baggers and send all your employees through a costumer service class and monthly training or keep losing loyal costumers because that's certainly working for you. I'll be taking my business to super wal mart and Arco gas. And I even called the store and asked to speak with the store manager Wallie and he wouldn't come to the phone nor has he bothered to call me back after several days. Tried ordering curbside pickup because I had an accident and am immobile. We needed to stock up on easy food items that I can handle on my own when husband is working. Ordered 12:30 am for a 6 pm pickup. 6:30-no notification. Tried calling the pickup number. No answer. Called customer service. After multiple tries, they finally got hold of someone in store who said they were sorry, but they were unable to fill the order. No contact. No messages to this effect. So we wasted 7 hours of our day waiting to pickup an order that they were "unable to fill". I should have known better. Have lived in this area for nine years and this Safeway is always under-staffed, long lines with old and often rotting produce. Have tried contacting manager who is never there. Took my order to another store with better service. Unacceptable, Safeway. You should be ashamed. read more

I was a super loyal Safeway shopper in this town for 30 years, that said, as a long time local I can honestly say the service was far superior at the old store. While the shiny newer store is pretty, they have a high staff turnover and are pretty corporate company men now and have forced out most of the long time employees in favor of kids who they can work under hours and wage so they don't have to cover their medical care. Recent retirees shop here, a lot of locals do not anymore. Their prices are 25% higher than other choices in the area, and we have lots. They do have good BOGO sales and offer a good selection of quality everything, and there are some things I will still only get there. They have cut the gas discounts down to levels that make filling up with them not my go to fuel station anymore, and hence I shop less. I prefer to go to Campbells station at the intersection of 49x88, by the Best Western. Their prices are close enough to not make but a dollars difference and I would rather our money go to a local family, not a mega corporation. I see a lot of folks coming through and using the deli and giving it an excellent rating, of which I am glad. Safeway is open 24 hours and they offer real food, I'm all for that over fat food anyday, and it is a better value for your money. But if you're a local, try Grocery Outlet in the old Safeway building down behind the new Mels location. They have exceptional selections and discounts, the superb imported cheeses are outstanding. The produce needs work, but values are great and it's worth a look! read more

My parents live in the area and I frequent this Safeway regularly. Compared to other Safeways, this one is one of the best. It is family oriented to serve the community which is mostly country-esque folks like ranchers and blue collar workers. It is different from the Safeway I go to in Midtown because it is pretty white washed with zero pretty girls, but that also gives it a gold country feel. The lines flow smoothly and the not-in-a-rush country attitude of the workers will help to calm your nerves after a long day of work. The only cheap place to buy gas in Amador county... read more

I got a sandwich from there expecting it to be fabulous. The guy didn't seem like he knew what he was doing and was asking me questions on how to do it. He added my mayonnaise and mustard on my sandwich before he toasted it when I asked for it toasted in the beginning so he knew I needed it toasted. Which makes the sandwich not good. The meat tastes and looks like it's old. The pickles were good though. Oh it also cost $13! DEFINITELY NOT WORTH IT! read more

Iv been shopping at the Safeway on Industry Road near or in Jackson for years now and never had a complaint...its been reliable, clean, friendly and well stocked and continues to be... Im not sure if the pharmacy is directly connected with the store but the employees they have there are usually nice too.....today I was confronted with one of the rudest pharm tech ever, she hollered at an elderly woman about where she stood in line and had her retreat to the end of the line, (she didnt like how the elderly woman had stepped to one side) this employee was rude at the window, unwilling to answer questions. Her co-worker was visibly shaken & upset as she too was treated badly in front of customers. Hoping the store manager takes control of the situation there in the pharmacy. read more

Like the variety of produce and the quality of the meats

The staff at this place is super rude. I've never seen anything like it. Then again, it's Jackson, so the bar is set low. They do truly have the attitude that "there's nothing else in town - so take my crappy attitude, crappy service and crappy wait times and shove it." I've called several times to complain to the manager - he either doesn't care, or can't do anything about it. Sunday night is the worst. No staff to check, no staff to bag, no staff to help you in the deli. I get it - it's Sunday night, that's the only time people have to shop for food - sorry if you work at a grocery store and don't like it - they sure will take it out on you thought. I think the deli department is the worst - behind of course having to spend $350.00 on food and then have to bag it yourself - I mean those days are long gone at this place people. I've shopped at bigger "discount stores" (Grocery Outlet, etc.) in that have had super nice people, super good service, and bagged everything. Each time they do I always comment - WOW! They don't even bag my groceries at Safeway in Jackson. It's what you get for living in a small town - and it's really unfortunate that more people don't complain to try to make this place improve. I've ranted long enough - I know - but I've tried for the last year to go into this place and NOT get pissed off about something - and EVERY SINGLE TIME this place disappoints. Used to be the cheapest gas in Jackson. No more. Used to get good gas rewards but they have thinned out considerably. Music in the store seems to be getting louder and more obnoxious. The produce is really fresh and the service is wonderful. My cashier was Toni and she was the greatest personality ever! I was able to find everything I was looking for and a lot of things I was not. They even had Starbucks coffee on the shelf and I did not have to walk over to the in house bar to get a pack of their dark roast. So thoughtful of the store. There was an ease of the aisles but as one Yelper commented, the aisles could be wider to accommodate two flows of traffic. Overall great store and clean as Safeways always are. Holiday Turkey Dinner in a Box - Tired from working and only cooking Thanksgiving for 4 this year but wanting turkey dinner, I opted to look for an alternative to days of cooking (not my favorite thing to do). We tried a couple restaurants in the past and they were good but lacked the intimate home / family time I love at Thanksgiving. So, with fear and trepidation, I called Safeway and ordered their holiday meal in a box. I was able to schedule what time I wanted to pick it up at the store on Thanksgiving, and brought it home to reheat. The instructions for reheating were excellent and gave options for oven or microwave. I was really impressed with the packaging of all the foods and the turkey! Included was a 10 lb turkey that upon reheating was moist and falling off the bone! LOTS of meat for leftovers! The potatoes tasted homemade. The gravy was excellent. The dressing was very tasty and moist. And, the cranberry sauce was absolutely yummy! (I'm a cranberry sauce Nazi! I usually make my own as I think of that stuff in a can as toxic waste - yuck!) We added our own green bean casserole and candied yams to have an absolutely "traditional" Thanksgiving turkey dinner! My son and his wife raved about the dinner and we have enough leftovers to last a week! This was SO worth the money in every way! Great, stress-free Thanksgiving! I was a regular customer for many years and they used to be good , but lately their quality of customer service sucks . Employees are rude , they dont want to help you . I have been going to Safeway in Jackson for 9 years. For the last couple of years i have noticed the service is sub-par at best. I always have to bag my groceries, and there is always a line of people more than three ( as the sign states they will open more checkers if more than three people in line) never happens.
