I signed up for the $99 per year new pass. The first order was delivered as expected. They followed my instructions, "do not substitute," and did not substitute or leave out things, saying out of stock. The second time I ordered, they didn't follow my instructions. They substituted, and they didn't have the right count. I called, but the representative was pleasant, so I didn't even take the refund back for the items they substituted. The third time, today, they delivered only two cases of water bottles, which cost me $17.00!! I ordered four organic red apples, two organic plums, one organic cantaloupe, and cat food. I called customer service and spoke to Felix, who kept saying he couldn't do anything. It's the store that doesn't fulfill the order because they are out of stock. Really? I can understand cat food, but the rest? I was there three days ago, and there were plenty of organic items I ordered today. He became rude when I was upset. He said he could credit $10.00 to my online delivery account. I said I don't want the credit, and I wanted it back on my credit card. He said he couldn't do it. I asked to speak to someone higher up and was told there is no higher up. Really? Irresponsible answer. I said I wanted to complain about the service and him. He reluctantly filled out the form and said a supervisor would call you back. Before I hung up, I checked to make sure that the $10.00 credit still went back to my online delivery account. Sure enough, he replied I took it off because you said you don't want it. Cheeky! Don't fall for this $10 credit to try out their Fresh Pass service. It's a joke. read more

It's funny when I see others reviews considering that most travelers from out of town that feel like they are entitled and everyone needs to cater to their needs. Safeway is the only major grocery store in Fort Bragg beside Harvest and caters to every outstanding need if it is in their power. It is not a big city Safeway that has hundreds of employees. It is a small town Safeway that cater to hundred and thousands of locals and tourists on a daily. The employees do a wonderful job. While dealing with individuals that feel the world revolves around only them. 4.5 stars for being a small town Safeway and catering to more in a day than any big city Safeway!!! read more

Boyfriend and I were in town for a few days and we stopped in almost twice a day. The selection was fine for what we were after, and we never had to stand in a line more than a couple people long. The workers weren't overly friendly, but neither am I, so that was fine by me! I had an issue that occurred in the parking lot that was really unpleasant, I was so upset, but upon talking to him he made everything right! Its a small town... slow pace...I get it. But 3 open check stands and 10-15 people in each line? Inexcusable! Especially irritating when its clear you're blatantly disregarding the line thats so long its into the aisles while you talk about the town gossip. It gets better. In there with my better half and our two kids when we finally get up to the front of the line. We were greeted by a presumably quiet checker. She then began to bring up some small talk asking if I liked marshmallows in my hot chocolate as she rang up my swiss miss with marshmallows. Then she looks to my boyfriend and this conversation takes place: Her: Seen any good movies lately? Him: Yes, we just saw Deliver us from evil a few weeks ago. Her: So you like horror? Him: Yes. Her: Do you like boobies? Him: (looking over at me)..ummm..well.. Her: If you like horror and you like boobies, you need to see Piranha. If you're expecting a big chain grocery store with all the good things that come along with that (and all the bad things that come along with that), well then step right up. Here's your store. Nice sized parking lot. Adequate staffing of checkers. Aisles seemed clean. I was here to grab a couple quick donuts and a beverage, and I was in and out about as fast as at a convenience store. A standard Safeway, not too small. We came in for coffee and found the Thanksgiving coffee we were looking for. There are the bins for you to fill your own coffee bag and the prepackaged ones. The prices are definitely less than what you pay for the same coffee beans at the Harvest Market in Mendocino Village. We ordered 2 sandwiches - Tuna on a cheddar roll and Philly Cheese steak. Hubby said the Philly Cheese sandwich was "no good". The tuna came out of a plastic tub the clerk had to open, it was too processed and didn't have the texture of tuna that you would make yourself at home. It was my mistake to pick the cheddar roll, it didn't taste good together. The interaction we had with the 2-3 staff members at this store was fine. No one was rude and they seemed interested in you. read more

This is the first time I've ever left a review. The Safeway in Fort Bragg, California is chaotic. I recently moved here and found out that Safeway here is super busy. Sometimes I go there and it's too busy so I leave. I keep coming back because I keep thinking that I should give them a fair chance, but now I'm done with it. It always has long lines and people are fighting over their place in line. I've had to stop people from cutting in front of me before more than once. But I decided to give it another chance so I set some time aside today and prepared to be patient. The store is so crowed you can't even walk trough the aisles. I would rather sit in traffic on the Bay Bridge. At some point I and another costumer were trapped and I actually had to help her get through the crowd. I Don't know if it's because they need to hire more workers or if the cashiers are too slow, but the check lines are usually backed up into the aisles. I got in line and settled in for a long wait. I didn't have much stuff. The cashier was quite slow. The person in front of me let someone else go in front of her which is annoying, but I let it go. When it was finally the person's turn in front of me I tried to follow only to find out that another line had formed the next aisle over and was feeding into this one. The man trying to get in front of me said the line was behind him (he's right, there was a line behind him). Of course I can't get to the end of his line because it's too crowded. Confused, I look behind me, and there is indeed a line behind me as well. I briefly tried to look for a different line, but I was trapped in the crowd again. That is the first time I have ever used profanity out loud in public. I said, "**** it, I'm going home!" I left my cart there and walked out. Sorry for that, but I could not even move it through all the people. I didn't want to start over at the back of the line. I had already spent an hour there, and didn't want to spend more time trying to get the attention of an employee to take my cart. Besides, they had too many people to ring up. I was harassed for having a service dog while I was attempting to shop. I was asked to leave by a rude employee. I use the Safeway pharmacy for the ease of getting my meds when I go shopping. I have had more than a few bad experiences with them. I get a phone call(s) saying my meds are ready and when I drive the 9 miles to get there they don't know what I am talking about. Come back in 45 minutes they say. This has happened 3 times. I talked to the manager,nice guy, he says to call in and check the status of my scripts. I do the computer says they are ready for pickup. I get there they don't have them Come back in 45 minutes. The next time I try this I get the conformation they are ready and I go to get them they say they restocked them Come back in 30 minutes. At least the forced shopping time is getting shorter. I will be going to another pharmacy. read more

God I hate this store. Most of the employee's are awesome~ At least the ones who don't smoke on the side entrance of the store and then walk back in to handle my purchases without washing their hands. Their meat dept. is seriously dropping the ball. Too many times I have heard "never buy meat at Safeway..." and then when I am in a rush, or like this morning, it's the only place open, I forget and wind up buying expired meat. So many times I have had to take meat back because it is expired or rotten. It also bothers me that they don't carry Clover Milk and dairy products. So I asked the lady behind the deli counter how long should I cook/heat up the prepared whipped potato haves. She says, "Oh, I don't know, I prepare my food at home from scratch". Well good for you. I asked if there was anybody there who knew. She went back to guy in the back and came back with the answer: 10 minutes at 350 F. When I got home and opened it up I realized that it would be more like 30 to 40 minutes at 350 F. She needs training real bad. read more

The people in the Fort Bragg store are great. My problems stem from the corporate practices, which in my opinion, are deceptive. Example 1: The cheapest price for apples was posted directly under the most expensive apples. If you reached directly above the sign for 99 cents per pound, you were actually choosing apples that cost $3.99 per pound. The tag was for apples on a different tier of the rack. Why did they put the cheapest price under the most expensive product? Example 2: There were big pushes for charitable contributions. It got to be a circus so that when people gave a contribution, the clerk would get on the PA system and announce it to the store. But.... guess who gets the tax deduction? You give the money, Safeway gets the deduction. They are so cheap that they want you to give their charitable donation for them. Example 3: Their way of raising costs is to post higher MSRPs and then put signs around showing 'Sale prices' that are higher than what was charged the week prior. Example 4: They obfuscate the real cost of the products by showing prices for multiple units. Their self-checkout stations are a joke. There are 6 stations and one attendant. The machine can't count the bags you put in the bagging area and locks up the station until you get the attendant to come over unlock the machine. The attendant is overworked, so you end up waiting around 5 - 10 minutes until she is done just to make sure Safeway doesn't lose the 10 cents for a purchased bag. How much is our time worth? They need to get the machines calibrated to accurately see the bags. It is time for a change. Harvest Market is an ethical store and they offer great products. I don't mind paying a bit more for dealing with an honest company. read more

Much improved after the makeover. Now if the cheap parent company would hire sufficient staff to handle the crowd the 'newly decorated' format draws, things would be better. Recently I have found that Safeway is selling merchandise for more than MSRP. If you do not use their online coupons your purchases are so much more expensive at this location than other locations. Peanut butter is $7.99 for 40 oz and $4.99 for 40 oz in Sacramento. Why does living in a small town result in stores being able to charge more than the "manufacturers suggested retail price"? Additionally the self check out has 6 stands and only one takes cash. So you are forced to used cards because they are unable or unwilling to refill the automated registers. read more

I shop regularly at the Fort Brag Safeway, but we don't have a lot of choices. They are consistently out of what I'm shopping for. The really nice checkers are pleasant & do their best, but the store is often grossly understaffed. The club card savings are great, but the prices are high. I love the employees, but I think management should work for a week under conditions they impose on their employees! read more

Typical Safeway. Easy name recognition for grocery in a totally strange town, easier to navigate getting what we need.

Filthy store, filthy restrooms, rude employees and countless items out of stock and empty shelves everywhere you look. They only restock during graveyard hours , so especially on all sale items sell out early everyday and not restocked till overnight. Go in after with shopping list like most people do and half the items on you list will be out of stock. Actually they are sitting in back, but store management is morons and do not check during the daytime to see if shelves need restocking. They just leave it to the night shift. No other supermarket operates this way but Safeway in Fort Bragg doesn't have any competition so they do whatever they want, and what they want to to be lazy flakes that can't wait to clock out. If that wasn't bad enough, every time you enter the store entrance you get drenched in cancer causing cigarette smoke by the employees on their breaks. I have brought this to managements attention numerous times because it is illegal, but it has not changed one thing. But hey give them some credit, they do allow heroin addicts to shoot up in their bathrooms. read more

Not a Safeway shopper but this store was convenient and had what we needed. The dungeoness crab was on sale and on both visits the gentlemen at the meat counter were warm, friendly, and did a terrific job cracking the crabs for us. The store was very busy on both days, yet the staff were all friendly. The store was well stocked and clean. Bring your own bags they charge .10 a bag and no plastic bags available. read more
