Now when I did have a service technician out, he was very friendly and helpful, and this kept three of the stars. On the phone the man who handled the call was rude, quick, curt, and dismissive. I reminded him who was actually the customer and the little "S" hung up on me. Now we had a fire and one entire zone (the garage) no longer exists. I asked for instructions to bypass the zone, and was told by the bot that I had to schedule a service call. I know this is not the case as all you should have to do is just bypass the zone, which I am doing each time I set the system, I just need to permanently delete the zone as it won't be returning. When I did get a call back, remember I pay for the maintenance fee, I am told they will only do this or that if I resign with them. I have been there for a freaking 20 years, and they are more concerned that I sign for another year? Well my contract is up, and maybe it's time to move on to a more professional company. RULE #1--Have some customer relation skills, and DO NOT HANG UP ON A CUSTOMER. RULE #2--Try listening to the customer. In the end that guy on the phone is the one paying your salary. RULE #3--When someone has been paying a maintenance/warranty fee for 20 years, you could probably be less interested in a trip charge and more inclined to retain the customer that is and has been paying you $49.95 every month. My cameras are paid for now, so FU on those as well. This is the third review on security companies that I have written, and I have to say they are all the same. They don't care about anything but money, getting more money and charging money. If you are a security company, try making the person that is paying for your services feel secure. NO, I will not be resigning with you.

He refused to listen, stated that they couldn't take over another system as they have a proprietary system that doesn't work with any other (B.S.) I can look up their entire system on Amazon for 1/16th the price, with their "$5,000 control panel" which is nothing more than a pre-programmed tablet. After not listening for about 10 minutes and blowing his wind, he demanded my SS# and DOB so he could run a credit report, then wanted a credit card to put down a deposit for them to come out and talk to me. Yea, I may be stupid, but NO! I would not recommend this company. If you are going to work security, make a person feel secure.

That was 5 years ago and I'm still an extremely happy customer, which can be rare in today's environment. Lots of companies will start out good and then go downhill once they think they have you locked in as a customer. That's not the case with ESS. Where any old person could unzip my front door and take whatever they'd like, or worse yet lurk within the shadows of my home and wait for me to fall asleep. Where they would then tie me up and make me watch as they did something terrible. Like place drinks on my coffee table without coasters or smash my plates one by one. Luckily I don't have to live like that any longer. I picked up the phone and called Defenders my local ADT authorized premier provider. The nice young lady I spoke to on the phone promised me the best and that's what I got when they sent Cody to help me get protected. This ginger angel made me feel at ease throughout the entire process. He went above and beyond the call of duty. He even held me through the tough times during the install. Because he could see the sheer terror on my face when we discussed how in the world I've survived this long without this in my life. I decided to do the "Fort Knox" package. Not only are my windows and doors covered but now I know every time my neighbor burn toast. I even treated myself a bit and got the scent sensor outside my home. So if another Hobo gets too close the alarm will send me a notification to my phone and I'll call the cops right over. Even if I'm not home! It's never a consistent answer and they can never let me talk to the supervisor. It is promises that I will receive a call back within 72 hrs. The lady today says I should get a call back on Monday, but if I don't to call back then to try again on Tuesday. The problem is in the mean time if we have an emergency we have no security. Our experience has been a nightmare from day 1. They sent 2 technicians to our home, and of the 2 only 1 knew what he was doing and could answer our questions. They were at our house for 8 hours but were unable to complete the installation during that time. The next day ADT charged my husband's debit card and credit card at the same time and the duplicate charges were not even for correct amount. The following day the same 2 technicians returned to our house where they spent another 7 hours trying to install the cameras. Actually, 1 guy worked while the other guy slept in the car. Again after a total of 15 hours our equipment STILL does not work. They told my husband they would extend their 3 day cancellation policy to 30 days due to the problems encountered and the fact that our security system was still not complete. At this point I'm super upset and losing sleep due to no security at our house. I have spent over 5 hours on the phone with multiple staff members at ADT with no resolution. Yesterday I was promised that the local service manager from Wichita would be out today between 9am and 3pm. Unfortunately that was also a lie. Instead they sent 2 other technicians to our home and they were there for 3 hours. Yes you guessed it, our equipment STILL DOES NOT work. I was given the supervisor's direct number and left 3 very detailed messages for him to return my call as soon as possible, but never received a call back. All I want is for them to pick up their equipment and refund our money so we can call another company. At this point if ADT offered to upgrade our equipment and monitor our home for free I would say no. I have lost every ounce of trust for this company. If you are looking for security, protection and a peace of mind I highly suggest you look elsewhere.

The people we deal with on the phone are responsive, knowledgeable and helpful; and the technicians who occasionally provide on-site service are professional, courteous and skilled. When I recently upgraded my cable service, I was advised that I could get a promotional package from them that included not only the added features, but also their own home security system for a $50/mo reduction in my cable bill. Fifty dollars...? plus no more monthly fee for Protection One....? That would be quite a savings. But I reflected on the excellent customer service we've received from Protection One over the years, and despite the savings offered we decided to stay with them. My wife and I agreed that the peace of mind one seeks comes not from the security system itself but from the people there you know you can depend upon.
