We joined the sunset sailing cruise, which starts at 7p, and comes back into dock around 9p (maybe…read morea bit later). Captain and First Mate were great - very helpful. Captain runs a tight ship - very observant of all rules, keeps boat very clean. Both were willing to answer any question about the boat (even though they've probably answered every single one a thousand times or more - you'd never know from their response). Kind of unusual - if you want to, they will let you help a little bit on the boat - letting out sails etc. My son was *thrilled* to be given the duty of hoisting the gibb sail. The cruise is accompanied by suitable and inoffensive music - the night we rode it was toward the Jimmy Buffet side of things.... like I said - inoffensive. The evening we were on, the weather was quiet - too bad! Would have been nice to have had a slightly more exciting cruise - but not the charter boat's issue. (Does anyone know how to review Mother Nature on Yelp?) Before you go: - Call for reservation - they seem to regularly fill up their cruises. - Check the weather, and dress appropriately. It's always colder and windier on the water than you think it's going to be. - Leave everything you can on on shore - limited storage and you don't want to be messing with purses, camera bags and the like. - Budget $30 to $40 per person (2009 pricing) for the tour. - Bring extra cash for the bar service, if you want a beverage. - Non-marking shoes only, barefeet are fine. - No food allowed on board. - If you are prone to sea sickness, take your dramamine/gravol before you get on board. :-) - Children under a certain age (13?) must wear a life jacket - it's the law. My daugher was unhappy about this - oh well! - Sunset cruise is a bit more expensive than daytime cruise - about $6 a person, going from memory. - Remember your (compact) camera! You'll get some beautiful shots out there. Would I recommend: Yes. Would I return: Yes. Kid's loved it.

We got to the boat and we noticed that the seats in the back were filling up. We told the guy that if we didn't have a seat than we will not pay. He said you are already checked in. Everyone under 50 was told they had to go the front of the boat. We said we did not feel safe. He said " too bad I already have your money." After we argued with he said he would give us our money back if we promise not to come back again.". Some people moved to the front so there were seats in the back. We said there are seats there now does he want us to stay or go. He said he wants us to go. He gave us our $90 ($45 each) back and we left. He was very rude and did not even try to accommodate us. I guess if we were over 50 we would have had better treatment.

We recently ended our membership with this boat club after a series of concerning experiences…read more After years of having a positive experience, things went south this summer. On one outing where we had our grandson, we were sent out on the lake with an empty gas tank--a serious safety oversight. When we used the radio to let the dock know the gas panel was flashing an "empty" warning, we were told "half of the boats do not show the correct gas level." We had to cut our two hour reservation in half. On another outing with our two grandkids and were not shown where life vests were stored on a boat we had never used before, which left us feeling unprepared and vulnerable. The radio they had given us didn't work, so we had to boat back to the dock which cut our two hour reservation in half...again. When we brought these issues to the general manager's attention, we were met with dismissiveness rather than accountability. For a service that costs over $250/month and is only usable for a few short months in Michigan, we expected far better communication, safety protocols, and customer care. We love being on the water, but safety and integrity matter. We hope the club takes these concerns seriously and improves its onboarding and oversight practices for future members.

My husband and I bought a brand new boat from Skipper Bud's from the Grand Rapids Boat Show and…read morethat is the most positive thing I can say about our experience with this company. They clearly do not appreciate boat sales because if they did, they would not go countless days over many months with no return phone calls or return e-mails. The cherry on top of our rotten Skipper Bud's sundae was the actual boat pick-up. We were told we would have our boat by Memorial Day and it took 2-days of multiple phone calls, e-mails and text messages for days leading up to the Holiday for anyone to get back with us. We were FINALLY scheduled to pick-up our boat, arrived to pick it up at the location we were told to go to only to find the dealership closed due to flooding (that they had been experiencing for months). We had to make MORE phone calls in their wet parking lot with now soaked shoes when thankfully and shockingly, someone actually answered the phone and informed us that we were supposed to pick up our boat at another location in Spring Lake. Just more proof of the horrendous communication we have experienced. We asked for an address, they could not give it to us, told us to search a company name and just go there. After an on-line mapping issue, we arrived only to experience a walk through on our boat to find snaps missing, a chunk missing out of a decal, and numerous flaws on the exterior of the boat requiring a lot sanding. Some of the work was so substantial it could not be completed as we waited. So as we were being sent along, we were told we would have to bring the boat back on another future date for exterior repairs when we discovered that the trailer wiring was cut so we needed MORE repairs before we could leave. It is so great - we now own a boat that has to be brought back to be fixed and the trailer electrical system is now far from pristine. It makes me feel so happy that we paid the long dollar for a brand new boat. Thanks Skipper Bud's for having our boat since February and not having it ready and ruining our trailer wiring - we really appreciate it. And thanks for never, ever apologizing for your numerous improprieties and issues that we experienced picking up our boat. Your customer service is 100% horrendous. To say our experience has been maddening would be an understatement. We understand unforeseen issues happen but we also expect to be kept informed of issues and change of plans and we NEVER expect to be lied to or ignored. We have felt this entire time that they could care less about selling a brand new boat and now that we have picked it up, I know that is fact. It is the only explanation for treating new customers way. If you are in the boat purchasing market and value communication and being valued as a customer, you may want to consider purchasing from another dealership. I wish we had not given our business to this company.

Since then service has been appallingly bad. We had some repairs to ge made under warranty, I'm sure those haven't been done. I ordered detailing and canvas cleaning IN THE FALL and that hasn't been done. We were supposed to have boat last week, and now they aren't sure when we will get it. Seriously, I'm in utter disbelief.
