On one outing where we had our grandson, we were sent out on the lake with an empty gas tank--a serious safety oversight. When we used the radio to let the dock know the gas panel was flashing an "empty" warning, we were told "half of the boats do not show the correct gas level." We had to cut our two hour reservation in half. On another outing with our two grandkids and were not shown where life vests were stored on a boat we had never used before, which left us feeling unprepared and vulnerable. The radio they had given us didn't work, so we had to boat back to the dock which cut our two hour reservation in half...again. When we brought these issues to the general manager's attention, we were met with dismissiveness rather than accountability. For a service that costs over $250/month and is only usable for a few short months in Michigan, we expected far better communication, safety protocols, and customer care. We love being on the water, but safety and integrity matter. We hope the club takes these concerns seriously and improves its onboarding and oversight practices for future members.

Even though I…read moredecided to do a late season charter the captain (Mike) shows he is incredibly knowledgeable about fishing this area and was able to help us catch the most and biggest fish around. With the help of his assistant Joe we were able bring in our limit and took home about 20lbs of fresh fish. Our charter was 6 hours and he made the most out of it, and he was constantly checking fishing reports and water temp to give us the best chance of success. Whenever I decide to do this again I promise I won't go anywhere else because I had such a good time and this has been one of the best fishing experience I've ever had. I strongly recommend Salmon wagon and hope to get back out on the lake next season. I also recommend you use the bathroom before going on the lake because the toilet on board is not much good for anything other than going #1.

We took a family salmon fishing trip over Memorial Day weekend with Captain Cory Melvin and his…read morefather Captain Ken Melvin. Ken, a Vietnam Vet, started the business back in the 80s but now helps Cory, who grew up working for his father, as a deckhand. All this experience was evident from the start. These guys were friendly, prepared, and quite skilled at putting you on fish. Ken and Cory shared some great stories and kept us laughing in between fish. Family working together can sometimes be a bit touch and go, but it's evident these two really have a great relationship and still love being on the water together after all these years! We had an amazing day for fishing - perfect 70 degree weather and near glass like water on Lake Michigan. They call it fishing for a reason, so some days are better than others but this day was as much about "catching" as it was fishing! We hooked about 18, catching 12 including a Coho and a really nice Steelhead. When we got back, Captain Ken showed us how adept he is at filleting fish, making quick work of the days haul for us. We loaded up a cooler full of fish and enjoyed some amazing steel head and king salmon later that night! These guys are great! I'd highly recommend giving them a call if you're looking for a fishing charter on Lake Michigan.

So needed less to say, that other place "Great Lakes guides service" sucks... Wouldn't give them the time of day even if they paid us. Anyway, Captain art was not only lay back and super helpful, but he went above and beyond and took us out on a VERY VERY short notice. His boat is really nice and SUPER clean and also quick! We managed to catch 4 nice sized salmon weighing about 25lbs of edible meat! :-) yum! I want to thank captain art for being so cool and helpful and such a good person over all. Would not even think twice about getting back in his boat! Will be back next year for some more fish! If your looking for a REAL guide and a local that knows his stuff, call up captain art. He went above and beyond in all respects getting 9 rods setup with a variety of strategies to give us the best chance, he had sun screen for us silly people who forgot it, and a great attitude, very positive, friendly, and knowledgeable. If you are heading out for a trip in the Muskegon area you should look no further. Captain Art will exceed all expectations. Full story: if you really want to understand how awesome Captain Art is, keep reading. I had scheduled a trip for my fiancée's birthday as the surprise main event. I planned the hotel and restaurant around the trip in Muskegon. I had a reservation with Great Lakes Guide Service. They originally had us on Muskegon River, which I found out later was way too early in the year for river fishing... anyway, they were going to call a few days before the trip to confirm. 2 days before the trip, I still hadn't heard anything, so I called them back. They didn't answer, so I left a message. I got an email later saying that the river trip wasn't going to work and asked if we would consider a lake trip. I said sure if we could confirm cost and where we would meet for that trip. I never heard back. So I emailed again, no response. And a third time the day before our scheduled trip (we had already driven 3 hrs for the fishing trip) with still no response. I called 3 times that day and never got an answer. At this point fearing my surprise trip would fall on its face, I called Captain Art. He answered IMMEDIATELY and heard the situation Great Lakes Guide Service had got me into. The day before we wanted to go out Captain Art said he would take us personally in the afternoon. Relief!!! He even left his granddaughter's birthday early to take us out. Unbelievable commitment, customer service, and flexibility. Great Lakes Guide Service also didn't mention to bring a cooler, so Captain Art took his time to fillet the salmon small enough we could take them in Styrofoam ones. He even taught us how to store them. 4 HUGE fish, a wonderful afternoon on a beautiful boat, the only boat catching fish, Captain Art will find you fish . Best charter in the area, hands down.

The most important part of a guide is how they interact with clients and Kyle's laid back personality enables him to cater to whomever is on his boat. He uses positive instruction, rather than anger when things don't go perfect (a problem with many guides in America). Fortunately, Buck is surrounded by wonderful fisheries and can put clients on salmon and steelhead without much effort. Whether in his lake boat or river boat, you'll enjoy a day with Kyle. We went with some friends recently to check out the beach and I was surprised at how nice it was. The beach is not huge, but it's a good sandy area and the water is pretty shallow for quite a ways, so it's great for kids and the water was quite warm. The bathrooms were clean and conveniently located for the beach. The parking area is a little small, not sure what you'd do if it was really busy. We saw people in kayaks out on the lake and fishing is allowed. There were employees riding around in a golf cart keeping an eye on things but there is no lifeguard at the beach. We don't live super close to this park but when we visit our friends we will definitely be back.

Completely unacceptable attitude from the moment we got on the boat. Knowing we were beginners, he complained he "prefers his clients be experienced anglers." Seriously, why am I hiring a guide in the first place if I'm already experienced in the sport? After putting up with his condescension, my dad finally got into it with him over his attitude. So much for a full day on the water; the vibe was so toxic we up left early. Save your money and book with a guide who knows how to treat people with respect.

Constantly…read moreyelled at the 3 of us all day for using the equipment as designed, was told multiple times to stand in a certain area and not move ...I'm talking if you moved inches you were told to go back to your spot like in preschool. the 3 of us are avid fishermen for 30 years plus and could do nothing right for 7 growling hours of pain. was told how to catch the fish but the crankbait lures he provided did not go down to the depth where the fish were ever like 5 feet over them and when questioned about it, he kept saying he had 30 years' experience over and over and over needless to say none of us caught anything for 7 hours. There were only 2 seats in the boat for 4 people. we sat on the same hole for 2.5 hours and when asked if we should move, he said they will bite they didn't. he gave us a list of things to bring on his website and in text conversations and when we did, he tells us at the boat ramp um we don't have room for all that, which was a small cooler and 1 Aldi bag with ours snacks and rain gear for 3 of us. He did hook a couple with a fly rod which we had expressed to him we would rather not use then handed us the pool and yelled at us no matter what we did until the fish got off after like 2 min. needless to say we were done halfway through our time chartered. Then when our time was officially up, he took off for the boat ramp doing 30mph via gps on phones blowing past many many bank, wading, and other boats while they were throwing their hands in the air and yelling at us as we blew by. I will be contacting the BBB to see if anything can be done. I would strongly urge you to never book Betts Guide service!!!!!

Large park, well used by the locals. We were here on a Sunday, there was a disc golf tournament,…read morepicnics and in general a lot of people using the park. We stopped by to sneak in a little fishing after an appointment. The lake is very shallow around the shoreline, has a ton of lily pads and we couldnt get any interest from the fish. Most people appeared to be " bucket fishing" for bluegills. We will skip it next time we are in town but it is a nice park.
