Southern Roots had great reviews and they didn't disappoint. I had my hair colored by Amy and she was wonderful! She really knows her stuff and I felt really comfortable trusting her with my hair. I've been to many salons in the past where my hair did not come out the way I wanted (cut or colored). I was seriously SO surprised at the wonderful work Amy did. I have naturally black hair, and wanted to add a cool toned ashy blonde balayage. My hair turned out AMAZING. Went home and my husband was surprised, but absolutely loved it. Highly recommend!

I deserve to be refunded, period. - This was my first visit to Southern Roots, and while I had high hopes based on the stylist's reviews, my experience unfortunately didn't go as expected. When I left the appointment, my hair had been curled, which can easily mask issues with color or placement. It wasn't until I straightened it two days later that I saw the actual results, and it was clear that the outcome didn't match the inspo photos I shared or the conversation we had beforehand. I reached out right away with photos, and while the stylist responded kindly and offered to fix it, I ultimately decided I wasn't comfortable with another appointment. I was then told the salon doesn't offer refunds, and instead, the owner, who I did not book with would be the one to do the correction. As a first-time client, this doesn't sit well with me. I don't feel comfortable going back, and I don't believe I should have to. I am not asking for anything beyond a fair resolution, and a refund would allow me to go elsewhere and have the issue addressed by someone of my choosing. Out of respect, I won't name the stylist - I don't believe this policy is hers, and I know she's done great work for many others. But I do think the salon's refund policy and how this situation was handled deserve to be shared. I'm including photos (the inspo pictures and my result) so others can make their own judgment. I always prefer to handle these things privately, but I also believe in transparency, especially when your first experience as a client leaves you feeling dismissed.

She greeted me with a bright smile and I immediately felt she was a good person. I knew I could tell her my hair concerns and she listened. I was right about her. She asked me some important questions about what I wanted the end result to be. Then we collaborated and executed a final result that exceeded my expectations. There's more! When washing my hair she had the temperature of the water nice and perfect. She massaged my head as she shampooed my scalp. It was so relaxing. I felt I should have tipped her for that alone. The unexpected treatment continued as Becky started to use her tiny soft fingertips to massage my forehead...the sides of my head all the way down to the back of my stressed out neck. It felt sooo good.. I almost fell asleep. What a wonderful gift. I took a deep relaxed breath while trying to figure out if I was actually at a hair salon or a massage parlor? Wait ....A great hair style AND a massage ! I was lucky to get both. Becky is very approachable and easy to talk to about your hair....Which is very important because after all it is YOUR hair. You certainly want to walk away satisfied, pretty, sexy and feeling fresh and new. All of that was achieved. I couldn't be more satisfied with not only the condition, but the cut the color and also the coffee! Another hairdresser offered to make me a coffee. It was delicious! I feel like I found the gem salon in North Carolina...and I've tried others. I'm staying with Koi Salon and my new girl Becky, as I honestly feel that she has welcomed me here and worked to make me feel pleased with the results. She understood my wants, what I was looking for in my hair journey and she came thru for me. My hair feels healthy and shiny, bouncy and sexy. As I left the salon, I wanted to made a future appointment, I also bought her suggested hair product that makes those with fine hair look like you have much more. It's was great stuff. It's Kevin.Murphy body builder (suggestion). At the end of my experience with Becky at Koi, I feel like a found the place where my hair belongs and a hairdresser that exceeds every expectation. Her 12+ years of experience under her belt is obvious as you can see her confidence in her scissors as she begins to create your personal style. She then applies the proper products to your hair that's not weighty or sticky just makes your hair swing naturally and the scent is beautiful. I gave five stars because there isn't 6. Ladies ! Koi Hair Salon is the place that will not only lift your spirits with a beautiful shampoo,cut, color and blowout but a place where you can make an investment with your hair to the best care. And in the end girls aren't we worth it ? Stop the run around...going here and there then ending up looking in the mirror at several mistakes...Then be disappointed that you can't find the right salon fit, and your hair looks like a kaleidoscope of colors. I would give this a 4.5 star rating for the following reasons: Isabelle was my stylist and instantly I recognized she knew what she was doing. She didn't have to explain everything she was doing and she didn't keep talking about her skills, she simply went to work. We looked at magazines to get a color scheme, and I explained what bothered me about my last haircut- and she handled the rest. I always am eager to see if a stylist can blow dry my hair smooth and straight without the assistance of a flat iron- which can be tricky with my wacky hair texture- and Isabelle delivered. Near the end, her next client showed up and yet she didn't rush through our appointment. The woman waiting (who had very long, thick curly hair) even said, "Take your time. I'd rather wait for her than let anyone else touch my hair" which was comforting. I know a hair cut can be hit or miss depending on what you're looking for and how well a stylist can execute the look. While my haircut isn't ideal (mostly due to the fact that my previous hair cut really botched my hair), I can tell the skill set is there for future cuts and colors. And price wise, I thought it was very reasonable. I got a full-head of highlights and lowlights, toner, cut and style and it came to 170.00. I've paid more than that in JAX for partial highlights and a cut. I know it's still a lot of money, but in the end, a good haircut can be worth every penny. Also, I wanted to say I went to their location at 413 Western Blvd,. I'm not sure if they moved or have two locations, but I cannot comment on the Country Club address location. My friend and I were very excited to try this place out because it looked so cute and had great reviews. We were both getting our hair colored and cut. The first two and a half hours were enjoyable, we all were laughing and joking, having a good time. Where it all went downhill was when Jessica turned my friend facing me and all I could see was a half inch of red hair dye stained all around her forehead. I asked if that was normal with what I am sure was a terrified look on my face. Both Jessica and my stylist, Margo, tried to blow it off and tell me and my friend that was normal and she could just "go home and use make-up remover". I should have spoken up more but was still in the process of getting my hair done. Margo did a great job with my color (but I found a color stain on one side of my head too-not near as bad as my friends) but my hair was not straightened well at all and I had to have her even it out in the front. I stayed pleasant and professional up until the point that they tried to hand me business cards for the next visit (my friend had already left) and I politely said that I did not agree with what the stain on my friend's head and how they reacted to it. That's when my friend came back in and showed them how bad it was. It took us pretty much arguing with them about it not being ok that my stylist, Margo, finally took out some wipes and tried to remove some of the stain. After speaking briefly to the owner about my friend's unhappy experience, we left. Shortly after we left Jessica called my friend and stated that it is "normal practice" for her to "leave an even line of dye on a forehead to avoid being completely obnoxious". What should have been a fun, enjoyable girls' day ended up a frustrating experience. We will never recommend or return to this business. I honestly feel the good reviews must have been from family because it seemed as not only the owner and employees but customers too-were all related or childhood friends. No blow dryer or curling iron. Nicole reaches out to me a couple of weeks later. Originally Nicole wanted more money to fix my hair. I argued $486 and 6 shampoos and then she said she would "do whatever it takes to fix my hair" at no charge. She said she would also contact the salon owner to let them know what was going on. That was January 13th and I never heard from Nicole or Hair N Motion. I am a retired Grandmother and saved up money and researched. This is my first visit to a salon in 20+ years and my hair is destroyed and so am I. I have never posted a negative review of anyone. But now it's not just the horrible condition of my hair but to be treated this badly after spending almost $500.
